As in, players picking up a weekly wage directly from playing football/hurling?

Never.

But as JMohan infers.... many have already been receiving money, some of which will be down to the person's status as a county footballer/hurler... an example would be a county development officer.

The game is Professional. Look at what most managers are reputed to be earning.
The only people not getting rewarded are the players and as we all know they wear a sponsored jersey. Free Marketing. Pay all or none.

Everything about intercounty (and some club) gaelic games is professional except the people on the pitch (inludes the referee, linesmen and umpires).
Stadium management, administration, team management, team support services, sponsorship, image rights.........whatever else.

Will intercounty players ever be paid for playing gaelic games.     Yes
It's just a question of how long it takes for it to happen.

The current state of the countrys economy (hahaha)  has probably put a halt to its gallop for now.

Its already happening with the blessing of the GAA "leadership".

Yes already happening  ;)
Denied by Employers and Employees  :o

rosnarun

you can only call it professional if you do nothing else . otherwise its just picking up a few bob here and there.
if you cant eat rest and train like a pro you are not one.
that why a LOI player bring perhaps far less home than a GAA player is a professional and the Footballer isn't
If you make yourself understood, you're always speaking well. Moliere

How is it?

By leadership you mean Croke park and while I might be cynical I don't see that happening from where I am.

Wise up man!!!

Blessing might be bit strong ... but it certainly isn't stopping it.

Personally I don't see how it can stop it.
