A lot of posters having meltdowns about Dublin Gaa blaming from money, saying they are pro to attendances. Ye need to stay off the keyboards lads. Not good for the health.Every county should have 25 lads. Look at us 37 titles. the jacks will never catch us. Mayo and ourselves have shown in recent years the dubs are not a super side. If counties invest in under age coaching rather than short term outside manager/coach they will reap the benefits. Look at Kerry, we have won 5 in a row minors. We should possibly get 8/10 lads from them teams and will be a force again in next year or two. Kerry ABU

Why aren't people pushing for the Dublin county board to release their accounts? Shouldn't every counties accounts be open to the GAA public? I've seen a few things on twitter about the 2016 accounts for Dublin being available, the numbers look huge. Also I've seen loads of images on twitter about the effect that the finance available to Dublin GAA has had across the board. Not just with their senior footballers. I'll try to link images here if I can figure them out.

GAA Discussion / Re: Centralised Fund for Team Expenses?

I've said previously that the GAA have created a monster with the millions upon millions they've given Dubl$n GAA. They now feel entitled to the money, even a small cut in the funding is being strongly opposed: http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/dublin-manager-jim-gavin-slams-proposed-cuts-in-gaa-funding-to-dublin-1.2052385

Let's look at what's happening now. The millions of euro Dublin GAA have got since 2005 was meant to increase participation and increase Dublin's standards across all competitions. We can see that the second part has worked, I've already done a table showing 52 titles post funding compared with 14 titles in the same time frame pre funding.

What about the increased participation part. Does anyone have any numbers on this? How many new clubs have been established? What are the playing numbers like in comparison to before the funding. We hear a lot about the super clubs and the huge numbers they're getting at underage levels but are the smaller clubs being left behind?

Surely if the number of kids at the super clubs are as big as has been touted, then the drop off rates must be massive around the 16, 17, 18 year old age group?

Have Dublin GAA made any impact on the rugby playing areas? Where soccer is strong?

On this thread we've had videos from Off The Ball posted, they listed the big name former players who are all coaching the development squads. And we've heard these squads are all doing top level strength and conditioning work and training in the multi million euro Abbotstown facilities. It looks like this is where the money is going and the increased participation part is kind of secondary. Can anyone clarify this?

I actually don't think we need many rule changes, people are just having a discussion. It's allowed and it's not all about Dublin.

Usually when people get really defensive about everything they have something to hide or something they feel guilty about. What do the Dubs feel guilty about?

I'm going to link an article that's just full on moaning, it definitely belongs in this thread for moaners and it in no way reflects genuine concerns about Gaelic football. It's just a moanfest that shouldn't be discussed properly on this GAA forum.

GAA Discussion / Re: Attendances

Dublin used to fill Croke Park regularly, attendances are falling across the board, including Dublin. It can't be denied. Just look at Dublin attendances when they've played championship games outside Croke Park! Was it 17,000, 14,000 and this year 12,000?

Where's the minor football team in that graph?

Where's all age levels and codes in that graph?

The Dublin senior footballers are only a small part of a bigger Dublin GAA.

Females in schools and clubs get the same coaching from the GDOs,  please do the graphs..

thank you in advance.

I think you're forgetting that Dublin have won 51 titles in all grades and codes since the financial doping. This isn't just about the senior footballers.

Can someone explain to Dublin posters why they don't have to invest in bricks and mortar?

I will give you a clue "It's a big f**king building on the North side of Dublin"!!

The new waste incinerator?

If referencing Croke Park, I forgot that Dublin fans assisted in the development and payment of it due to their large attendances. Nearly forgot, however if referencing a home venue for Dublin, a home venue that you cant train on and play on it once every 3 weeks in the Summer. Meh.

This is a nonsense arguemnt.
How many Intercounty teams train at their 'home' venue?
Tyrone don't train in Omagh, Monaghan dont train in Clones.
Most counties, train at their training ground and play at their designated home ground

Some do, some don't. Its not relevant to victory.

Wait are trying to say playing at home has no bearing on winning! I mean I suppose you would say that after playing 75% of your championship games at home. I'd say Kerry would love to play 3 out of every 4 championship games in Killarney.

+1 Dennis would be mighty

It's generally accepted now that the Dublin senior footballers are so successful because of the money they've been given. Obviously Dublin supporters will deny this but the facts are there for all to see. I think what supports this claim is the improvements seen in other areas. It shows that it's can't be just passed off as a one off football team. There's been improvements in Dublin hurling and their women's teams. Also I found this graphic about club football and hurling.

That's a huge jump.

Well said Ewan

The Dublin team trained in Croke Park 3 times a week from July.

All he did to back it up was catch the ball and be on a good team. There's players up and down the country who could have done what he did if given the same opportunities. Limited footballer and unlimited gob.

I'm not going to pretend I like or respect him because he's retiring.

LOL 😂 the greatest 14 of all time.

Always found him over-rated. Possibly the worst player to ever win PoTY. Bit of a soft touch too.

Nonsense was well able to play ball. His quick hands and unselfish play set up many scores for his team mates.

GAA Discussion / We need to talk about Kieran Donaghy
September 11, 2018, 10:40:39 AM
All the best in retirement Kieran. One of the greatest full forwards of time.

Statement from Kieran Donaghy

Today I wish to announce my retirement from the Kerry Senior Football team. The journey has been full of ups and downs but I never wanted it to end. It has surpassed even my wildest dreams, that a basketball kid from Tralee would end up playing 69 times in the championship over a 14 year period for the famous Green and Gold.

To every one of my Kerry teammates who I was lucky enough to have played with, I thank you for your patience, help and advice during those years. I'm blessed to have had the time of my life with you boys fighting on my back trying to win games for Kerry. We had some tough times, such is life but the wonderful stories and memories we shared will stick with me forever.

To get the opportunity to soldier with and against some of the greatest players of all time is something I will always treasure.

During my career I have been lucky enough to work with some great Kerry managers and their respective management teams. They took a chance on me, believed in me in massive high-pressure situations. They gave me the confidence to develop my game which allowed me to perform on the biggest of occasions for Kerry .

I would like to thank the Kerry County Board along with our sponsors Kerry Group, backroom staff and medical teams for their constant help and guidance throughout my career. Your unbelievable work is not seen by many but it's massively appreciated by the team and by me.

A huge thank you to the loyal Kerry fans who traveled far and wide to watch and support us. We love football in this county and while there is a pressure to perform we always embrace it. We need to get behind this young team we will have next year, so get the flags out and get to the games to support the boys.

I would also like to thank all the supporters who live abroad but continue their love and support of Kerry.

I would like to thank my club Austin Stacks, everything I achieved is a direct result of the help and guidance ye gave me from an early age. To represent this great club is always a massive privilege and our county championship win in 2014 gave me the ultimate honour the following season. To be captain of a county like Kerry is something I'm extremely proud to have accomplished.

To my family, without you none of this would have been possible. Mom, I am forever grateful to you for believing in me and showing me how to be a good person first and foremost.

To my wife Hilary, you're all that I could ask for, thank you so much for always putting me first during my career , we have had so many wonderful experiences together throughout this journey and made life long friends along the way I can't wait to start the next exciting chapter together with Lola-Rose & Indie.

To the rest of my family, thank you for your support and always having my back.

I'm a proud Kerry man and to have represented this county meant absolutely everything to me. As the great John B Keane once said, 'I'm one lucky hoor!'
