Words cant describe how bad we were today .... Laurel , wouldnt be too sure of our quarter final place , given our performane today ....

Yis were poor alright, though the conditions were dreadful. I'd still expect yis to edge Connollys. Yis could well have stolen the game today, after all.

Sunday results:

Killoe 0-13 Mostrim 2-4
Dromard 0-15 Rathcline 1-6
Fr Manning Gaels 0-11 Carrickedmond 0-3

You could have put the three together and still not have had the bones of a decent football match.

any news on clonguish have a bet riding on them?

Results:

Ballymahon 0-9 Rathcline 0-10 (may open up a chance for Colmcille to make it to the quarter-finals, or it may not)
Clonguish 0-14 Mullinalaghta 0-13 (Clonguish go through to the quarter-finals, Mullinalaghta need to beat Ardagh next week to stay Senior)

Carrickedmond 2-7 Longford Slashers 0-13 (no, that's not a misprint - I believe Slashers were 50/1 on to win this one with Paddy Power)
Mostrim 0-16 Seán Connollys 1-10 (Mostrim should go through to the quarter-finals)
Killoe 2-13 Granard 1-4 (Killoe should be safe for quarter-finals, Granard look doomed)

Colmcille 1-10 Dromard 2-4 (all square on 2 points in Group 2)
Ardagh 1-6 Abbeylara 0-13 (Abbeylara go through to quarter finals, Ardagh play Mullinalaghta for relegation)
Cashel 0-9 Fr Manning Gaels 2-10 (FMG go through to quarter finals, Slashers will almost certainly accompany them)
Leader Cup winners: 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

Looking at Group 2, if Ballymahon beat Dromard next weekend and Rathcline beat Colmcille, then Dromard - being even on points with Colmcille and having lost the match between the two sides - would be automatically relegated to Intermediate football for next year.

In that situation, it would be interesting to see whether the decision to automatically relegate 4 out of 16 clubs to Intermediate in one go would stand or whether County Board politics would intervene.

Tables and next weekend's fixtures:

Group 1:

Fr Manning Gaels 4pts +15
Longford Slashers 3pts +18
Carrickedmond 1pt -8
Cashel 0pts -25

Longford Slashers vs Fr Manning Gaels, Fri, 8pm, Killoe
Carrickedmond vs Cashel, Fri, 8pm, Ballymahon

FMG are through regardless. A draw would be enough for Slashers. Carrickedmond would need to win and for Slashers to lose for there to be a playoff. Cashel look beyond salvation.

Group 2:

Ballymahon 2pts +6
Dromard 2pts +3
Colmcille 2pts -4
Rathcline 2pts -5

Colmcille vs Rathcline, Sat, 6.30pm, Newtownforbes
Dromard vs Ballymahon, Sat, 6.30pm, Slashers

Any winners automatically go through to the quarter-finals. Two draws will put Ballymahon and Dromard through to the quarter-finals, put Rathcline down to Intermediate, and probably cause an unholy row at County Board level. If Ballymahon and Rathcline win, Dromard go down to Intermediate. If Dromard and Rathcline win, Colmcille go down to Intermediate. If Ballymahon and Colmcille win, Rathcline go down. If Dromard and Colmcille win, Ballymahon go down. (I suspect the unholy row will ensue in all of these cases anyway.)

Group 3:

Killoe 4pts +15
Mostrim 2pts +0
Seán Connollys 2pts +0
Granard 0pts -15

Killoe vs Seán Connollys, Sun, 7pm, Legga
Granard vs Mostrim, Sun, 7pm, Abbeylara

Granard need to beat Mostrim and hope for Connollys not to lose (or to be absolutely hammered) not to be immediately relegated, and I don't see them as being capable of that. Connollys need to win their second match of the entire season by more than Mostrim beat Granard (or for Mostrim vs Granard to end in a draw) to go through to the quarter finals.

Group 4:

Clonguish 4pts +17
Abbeylara 4pts +7
Mullinalaghta 0pts -4
Ardagh 0pts -20

Clonguish vs Abbeylara, Fri, 8pm, Ballinalee
Mullinalaghta vs Ardagh, Sat, 8.30pm, Killoe

The only interest in this group is whether Mullinalaghta, who lost both of their matches to last minute scores, can beat Ardagh, who could apparently have beaten Abbey last night.
Leader Cup winners: 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

Group 1:

Longford Slashers 0-11 Fr Manning Gaels 0-6
Carrickedmond 1-13 Cashel 0-10

Longford Slashers 5pts +23
Fr Manning Gaels 4pts +10

Carrickedmond 3pts -2
Cashel 0pts -31

Slashers and FMG go to quarter finals. Cashel relegated to Intermediate. Carrickedmond go to relegation playoffs.

Group 2:

Colmcille 2-9 Rathcline 0-6
Dromard 2-5 Ballymahon 1-9

Ballymahon 4pts +7
Colmcille 4pts +5

Dromard 2pts +2
Rathcline 2pts -14

Ballymahon finish ahead of Colmcille on account of their win in the played game. Dromard also edge out Rathcline based on the game between them, but go into the relegation playoffs (Billy will lead a service of silent contemplation and mourning to mark this event.)

Group 3:

Killoe 1-6 Seán Connollys 0-12
Granard 0-9 Mostrim 2-13

Killoe 4pts +12
Mostrim 4pts +10

Seán Connollys 4pts +3
Granard 0pts -25

Killoe and Mostrim go through on score difference while Connollys go to the relegation playoffs. Granard leave Senior football for the first time in their history.

Group 4:

Abbeylara 1-14 Clonguish 1-10
Ardagh 0-6 Mullinalaghta 5-11

Abbeylara 6pts +11
Clonguish 4pts +13

Mullinalaghta 2pts +16
Ardagh 0pts -40

As Laurel knows only too well from last couple of years , Clonguish can be beaten ... obviously they will go in favourites , but we are getting progressively better as each game goes on ! .... not too difficult given our performance v Killoe on our first outing this year !!

Hopefully ourselves and Donegal can do it agian in the same year !!!  ;D.... signs are good so far !!!

First of all, I'm relieved that I haven't just been typing to myself for the past few weeks!!

I've actually been at part of all Mostrim's matches (I dropped in for the last 15 minutes of the Connollys match when I was sure I wasn't going to be charged a tenner :D).

Like ourselves, yis were facing poor opposition last weekend (though at least none of your opposition decided to slam a goalscorer's face into a support to teach him a lesson >:(). The last ten minutes or so looked promising, though. Yis would need to step it up a couple of gears against Clonguish though their defence is no great shakes and they're reliant enough on Dowd and the Bardens (young Burke was nippy when he came on). Whoever gets through that match would look likely candidates for the final. They could even be facing Colmcille ;).

Quarter-final draws:

Mostrim v Clonguish (Sun, 3pm, Pearse Park)               ----------------------   Clonguish will win by 5 points plus. Don't read too much into the Abbeylara game.
Ballymahon v Fr Manning Gaels (Sun, 7.15pm, Pearse Park)   ------------------ Be a tight game but Gaels have enough Football to beat Ballymahon's doggedness.
Abbeylara v Longford Slashers (weekend of 13th/14th)       ----------         Slashers slow to start but on paper the best team in the county.. Where is Paul Kelly and Mark Smith?

Killoe v Colmcille (weekend of 13th/14th)-   A young Killoe team to come through depending on fitness of Sean Mccormack. Should be the best game to watch of the four.

Dromard v Mullinalaghta (Sun, 5.30pm, Pearse Park)            -------------------- Should be a real tough game.  Mullinalaghta have some more natural Footballers. Have seen nothing from Dromard to suggest theyll improve their performance. Say Mull will win.
Seán Connollys v Carrickedmond (Sun, 1.15pm, Pearse Park)         ------- Think Carrickedmond will win.

Colmcille looked quite handy against Dromard.
