No matter who wins on the 16th, anyone who'd got in on the betting even a few weeks ago would be making a killing.

In other news, Killashee win the 2017 Senior Championship Relegation Slot2016 Intermediate Championship:

Killashee 1-11 Cashel 0-6

Cashel have pulled out of the Division 1 relegation playoffs, leaving Dromard to play the winners of Ballymahon and Carrickedmond in order to stay up.

The current pricing of the game merely reflects the bookies liabilities where quite a few substantial bets were placed on Abbey at 14, 12 & 10s. They were way over priced at those odds. If this was a market based on form then I'd be giving odds of 1/2 the half parish & 5/2 on the Abbey.

As a former player with the Gaels this is the dream final but a question to be answered before Oct 16th .... Why did the club colours become black & green????

Distinct from everyone else in the county but not red and not maroon and not white?

Update: From conversations last week my understanding is that they were inspired by Nemo Rangers.

The mighty Wolfe Tone hurlers did it again.

Sean Browne now has at least 17 county medals.

I hear davy Fitz was at the game in Pearse Park. Some wag, not unfamiliar with this thread, claimed it showed he actually was on a break from the hurling!

A county final that most people have been expecting for quite some time now. 5 minor titles in 8 years just goes to show that two small clubs can make a big impact. People will complain that this amalgamation should have been dispanded but what they must realise that both clubs were intermediate when formed. A fine crop of players who have guide both club school and county to Leinster and all Ireland glory. An interesting final that hopefully will be one to remember

Good luck to Mullinalaghta today.

March on Leinster then.....

Thanks Shamrock. We'll be up against it against some very tough opponents today.

Congratulations to Mullinalaghta.

Champions for the first time since 1950 and the first time the Connolly Cup has made to The Laurels.

Great achievement for all the boys and girls but most especially for Laureleye.

Well done young(ish) man and enjoy the celebrations in Longford's own 'Gaza Strip'

LaurelEye

Thanks Shamrock.

It's still all a bit unreal to me for various reasons, but I'm very, very happy.

The wait is finally, finally, over. Unfortunately, none of the men of 1950 lived to see the title return, but I'm sure they were with us in spirit today.
Leader Cup winners: 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

To explain the Gaza Strip reference, a certain clerical personage in Abbeylara was sounding off at a recent funeral of the brother of two of the men of 1950, complaining about the fact that there were families in some of the border townlands who supported and played with Mullinalaghta rather than Abbeylara. He referred to the disputed area as the "Gaza Strip" and stated that "Abbeylara will sort out the Gaza Strip on Sunday".

They didn't.

Congrats Laureleye; well worth the wait.
