Will be another quite night at convention,  very few nominations,

QuoteMartin Skelly running for development officer along with Eugene Quaine

This doesn't involve any responsibility for the reconstruction of Pearse Park, does it?

QuoteEamon Reilly nominated to chair

How can you be a chairman if the club that you're a delegate for is in suspended animation?

Leader Cup winners: 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

The Insider

That rule had some change made to it at congress earlier this year because of the number of clubs struggling to stay alive , ironic nomination for development officer alright . Another change will have to be made next September as the secretary's position will be returning to a "voluntary"  role . The present games manager position will become Operations Manager which will probably also become the Central Council delegate in the coming years. Knowing the workload that's there I don't think you'd be knocked over in the rush as it will be expenses only position  !!!!!!!!!! . PRO position might have to go out again as most of the nominations not interested (Nothing much changing there then !!!)

Nothing could be better as PRO than the current incumbent.

The Insider

No contests at convention, no one interested in Devolopment officer,Children's officer or PRO . Official launch of Martin Skelky's presedential campaign in Longford Arms on Thursday night

LaurelEye

Is it not Tuesday night?

Unfortunately I work late in Dublin on both nights so I will be unable to lend support to Martin's quest to bring the same management skills to national level that he displayed during his time in charge of the Longford County Board.

The Insider

Correct it was Tuesday night , was working and missed it . Interesting year ahead on that campaign . The success will depend on the profiles of the other candidates.

Moydow calling a meeting on Saturday night to discuss amalgamating with Ardagh.

That would be a third club gone or teetering on the edge in the space of just over a year.

The Insider

Shroid still on life support ,  2 stories out there , (A) its proposed that as Moydow wont have a full 2nd team that those players be allowed play with St Patrick's . (B) Full on amalgamation , following the troubles over jerseys at U-21 level a couple of years ago this will be an interesting meeting

The Insider

Great win today, even more impressive was the management directive ,no celebration we concentrate on the league game in 2 weeks .
Ardagh voted to accept the proposal from Moydow ,so now there is 22 clubs . Will 21 as its hard to see Shroid fieldingand the logical answer is for their players to move to Grattans

That's three gone out of 24 in just over a year. I think we are now the smallest club remaining in the county.

I am looking forward to the inevitable whine from a certain delegate from a certain club as to how difficult it is for them to field teams given that they have only four large national schools to work with.

Had our chairman a set of balls and up for a row like his predecessor  that gentleman would  have been asked to withdraw his racism remarks or vacate the meeting on his refusal when speaking on the parish rule motion at convention . At the moment the county executive  is leaderless with at least 4 members with no confidence in chairman .

Well, I suppose it's that time of year again...
Wash, rinse, repeat...

And around comes the rough beast of the Longford Senior Championship for another year.

Three groups:

Group 1 (townies and mid-Longford): Killoe, Longford Slashers, Clonguish, Granard
Group 2 (hungry half-Kyavan people): Abbeylara, Dromard, Colmcille, Mullinalaghta
Group 3 (south Longford plus token northerners): Mostrim, Carrickedmond, Ballymahon, Rathcline, Fr Manning Gaels

Three go through to the quarter-finals from groups 1 and 2, along with the top two from group 3. Bottom two in group 3 play off to go down to intermediate (assuming that there isn't another appeal/begging letter launched).

Current odds:

LadbrokesPaddy PowerBoyleSports
Killoe8/118/114/5
Longford Slashers15/27/15/1
Dromard7/113/26/1
Clonguish6/110/18/1
Mullinalaghta9/17/18/1
Abbeylara8/18/110/1
Colmcille10/112/114/1
Granard16/125/125/1
Mostrim25/140/1--
Rathcline50/133/125/1
Fr Manning Gaels33/133/180/1
Carrickedmond66/1--50/1
Ballymahon66/150/1100/1

Those are incredibly generous odds on Colmcille. Killoe, by the looks of things, seem to have let the bookies know that they'll be repeating last year's strategy of going easy early on with the aim of peaking for the Leinster Club Championship.

And no matter what the odds say, my money is on Rathcline for the chop.

Action begins this weekend in the cockpit of Group 3 with two matches:

Carrickedmond v Rathcline
Ballymahon v Fr Manning Gaels

Both take place in shimmering Kenagh, which won't have seen as much excitement since The Recount.

Hard to see past Killoe ...

Doesn't mean to say there isn't anything on the other side. They were on the same odds last year and ended up within three minutes of going out in the quarter-final, said he ruefully. They could have lost the final if a certain galoot hadn't got himself sent off.

I think they over-estimated themselves and under-estimated the opposition last year.  I think they won't do that again ... maybe.
