Different clubs have different numbers of players on county panels and different sizes of pool from which to draw club players.

For example, this year we would be largely unaffected (one minor and two under-21s). Last year we would have been without ten players and would have been crucified in league matches as a result.

Denis Connerton, Ciarán Fox and Eugene McCormack all nominated for county manager position. Interviews next week.

All stands in Pearse Park will have to be demolished because of insufficiently deep foundations.

The Insider

While he's nominated I don't think Eugene has any interest in being senior manager , at the minute he is content to be with his club and enjoyed his stint with the minors where his passion for Longford rubbed of on the players for their championship displays.

Pity. Given the make-up of the interview panel I imagine Denis Connerton is likely to get the job in any event.

Far too much being read into the Killoe-Slashers match in my opinion.

The Insider

Latest is Eugene has confirmed he is interested in the position, interesting interview with Martin Skelly in the Leader . Gave the time line for the build of the main stand . Decision taken following replay of 03 senior championship final where nearly everyone got soaked . That would probably being early October . 130 meter stand ready for first league game following Feb,little over 4 months . Goes some of the way to explaining what happened

Looking ominous for Fr Manning Gaels' senior status at the moment.

Hard luck to Mostrim who nearly caused a major shock against Slashers.

Quarter-final draw:

1. Mullinalaghta vs Winners of Killoe/Ballymahon
2. Longford Slashers vs Dromard
3. Colmcille vs Clonguish
4. Granard vs Abbeylara

1 vs 2, 3 vs 4

Relegation play-offs:

Losers of Killoe/Ballymahon vs Mostrim
Carrickedmond vs Fr Manning Gaels

Playoff:

Ballymahon vs Killoe, Sun 6.15, Ardagh

Current odds:

I am a little mystified at the odds on Slashers who I don't see being able to cope with Dromard. Abbeylara have moved in given a favourable draw, but surprisingly, Colmcille haven't. Killoe have finally moved out from odds-on after a second defeat.

If the FBI could use their photo enhancment software and zoomed in on a red FIAT 124 way back in the distance you will see me hanging out the window of that car. Remember it well. Following year we got to the final again only to be hammered by the Slashers - I cried for weeks after  :'(

Congratulations to Mostrim, although they may feel it congratulations for very small mercies.

Pessimism followed by hope followed by expectation followed by crushing disappointment in the last couple of minutes is (one of) the worst f***ing feeling in the world. Last year the worst happened early on, and it didn't feel nearly as bad. The sense of resignation acts as an anaesthetic.

We largely have ourselves to blame for not taking enough chances in the first half when we had them. Refereeing was... well, refereeing was what it usually is in Longford. I'll say no more. Best of luck to Killoe for the remainder of the championship.

Quarter-finals:

Clonguish 1-16 Colmcille 0-9
Granard 0-10 Abbeylara 0-16

At least unlike Killoe and Mullinalaghta, this weekend's teams will not be asked to play the second half in semi-darkness.

Quarter-final replay:

Dromard 0-13 Longford Slashers 0-12

Relegation final:

Ballymahon 2-10 Carrickedmond 2-9

Dromard have two suspensions for the replay against Slashers (Reynolds and Vance), but if they manage to get past Slashers then they'll have them for the semi-final, which they wouldn't have had had they actually beaten Slashers with the final free that wasn't given. Killoe, though, may have gotten over the hump as well as getting out of jail on Sunday.
