Man Utd announce Tevez departure

Tevez will not be playing at Old Trafford in a United shirt again
Manchester United have confirmed that Carlos Tevez is leaving the club.

United were willing to pay the £25.5m to turn the striker's two-year loan move into a permanent five-year deal but Tevez has decided to move on.

"Disappointingly, his advisors informed the club that he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United," read a United statement.

"The club thanks Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."

606: DEBATE
What do you make of Tevez's depature?
Tevez became a fans favourite duruing his time at the Old Trafford club and helped the side win the last two Premier League titles as well as the 2008 Champions League trophy.

But he has joined Cristiano Ronaldo in exiting the club, with his final appearance being as a substitute in United's loss to Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.

United said they were willing to make Tevez "one of its highest paid players" but were told by the Argentine's advisors that he would not be accepting the offer of their deal.

Manchester City are now favourites to sign him but he has also been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool.

More to follow.

Fancy a bit of each way on Nick Watney 75-1, Jeev Milka Singh at 150-1 and Lee Westwood at 90-1 is a good value bet as well. Be great to see Mickelson come out and perform well considering recent events.

Aidan Carrs actions were a disgrace. It was a Fermanagh free, and he walked 5 yards and pushed Marty McGrath in the back of the head. It was a straight red. Fair play to McGrath who got straight back up, and no retaliation from the Fermanagh players but he definetley deserved to go.

As for the match, Down were, yet again, tactically outclassed. Fermanagh worked harder and had the more composure at the vital stage of the game and ran out thoroughly deserving winners. I'd imagine that will be Ross' last game in the Ulster Championship and Down could do with a Malachy O'Rourke as the next appointment. Danny Hughes was really the only positive. His energy and enthusiasm is a joy to watch at times, he covered some ground and can hold his head high, (which he probably will anyway). ;)

Donegal 95', Tyrone 96', Antrim 00', Tyrone 03', Tyrone 05', Tyrone 06', Wexford 08', Fermanagh 09'. Am I right in saying Downs last Championship win in the rain is the 1994 All Ireland Final?

Great second half performance by fermanagh, really stood up when it was needed and totally deserved their victory. Glad lads like Crason showed the promise that he has proven for many years in club football in the county. Other lads to step up to the plate today were James Sherry, Ryan Keenan and Tommy McElroy. Pete Sherry also had an extremely good second half, especially when most supporters would have felt that the loss of Clucker would have negatively affected the team.

As for Aidan Carr's sending off, it was hardly a disgrace dangerous person. It was pure frustration at the way the second half had panned out and while the ref had blown for a free he pushed marty in the back/neck, it was definately a yellow but not sure it warranted more than that. Wont matter anyway as by the time the qualifiers come it will be July and the suspension will be long up by that stage.

POLL: FLETCHER DESERVED TO GO
Posted 06/05/09 07:58EmailPrintSave

Graham Poll, the former Premier League referee turned pundit, has hailed Roberto Rosetti for enjoying 'a fine match' in the Champions League semi-final second leg between Arsenal and Manchester United and applauded his decision to dismiss Darren Fletcher.

While match commentators were near unanimous in their belief that Fletcher ought not to have been sent off for his tackle on Cesc Fabregas, Poll has urged Rosetti to stand by his decision.

'Italian referee Roberto Rosetti had a fine match and can justify in law the penalty he gave after Darren Fletcher brought down Cesc Fabregas,' he writes in his column for The Daily Mail.

'When commentators and former players say: 'He got the ball, it can't be a foul,' they are wrong.

'Even though Fletcher got a slight touch on the ball, Rosetti felt it was impossible for the Manchester United midfielder to avoid taking his opponent in the follow.'

Poll's analysis of Rosetti's evening certainly does not tally with the review offered by Arsene Wenger on the Italian whistle-blower.

"I don't believe the referee had a good game," the Arsenal manager commented. "I believe he had a very bad game. He gave many fouls you don't get in the Premier League and that is the reason the championship in Italy is not as committed as here. You get more smaller fouls over there than here and there were fouls here we weren't used to. The red card was harsh as well. I have sympathy for Fletcher."

In all, Rosetti spotted 30 different fouls during the tie - but oddly did not add on a single second of injury time in the first half.

Fletcher will now miss the final in Rome later this month unless Rosetti admits a mistake in his own match report. As an appeal is prohibited, Sir Alex Ferguson's tactic in overturning the decision appears to be appealing to Rosetti's conscience by first flattering his ego.

"You can see the ball has moved away at a different angle and in a different direction," Ferguson said. "It's terribly unlucky, but we can't appeal it. The referee is one of the best in Europe. When he looks at it, he may have a view, but there's nothing we can do.

"I respect him [Rosetti]. He may look at it himself, but we shouldn't ask him. He's confident enough and fair enough to look at it himself, possibly."

Wat a tit you are Graham!  :D

Sami signs for Leverkusen
Sami Hyypia has today brought a decade of service to Liverpool Football Club to an end by signing a two-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen.
Hyypia underwent a medical with the German outfit this morning and will link up with his new teammates in the summer for the start of pre-season training.

The Finnish international has earned legendary status at Anfield for the part he has played in the club's many successes over the past decade - and he will leave Merseyside with the best wishes of every Liverpool supporter.

It's hard to believe he cost the Reds just £2.5million from Dutch outfit Willem II back in May 1999.

After making his Reds debut against Sheffield Wednesday on August 7, 1999, Hyypia quickly formed a watertight partnership with Stephane Henchoz, providing the foundation for a historic treble in 2000-01.

The centre-half wore the captain's armband through much of this momentous campaign in the absence of the injured Jamie Redknapp. He jointly lifted both the UEFA and FA Cups.

Following the departure of Redknapp in April 2002, Gerard Houllier handed his trusty defender the captaincy on a permanent basis, though he'd be replaced by the emerging Steven Gerrard in October 2003.

With the arrival of new boss Rafa Benitez in 2004 came numerous personnel changes, though it was clear Hyypia was going nowhere.

However, he did have a new central-defensive partner in Jamie Carragher, who was at last given a regular slot in his preferred position. Within 12 months they were regarded as one of the most formidable pairings on the continent following Liverpool's Champions League triumph in the Ataturk.

Hyypia scored one of the most memorable goals en route to Istanbul, an unstoppable volley to open the scoring against Juve in the quarter-finals.

Incredibly, he played every minute of 57 consecutive European games for the Reds from November 2001 to February 2006.

The arrival of young centre-halves Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel provided competition for places as Hyypia entered his twilight but, despite sometimes missing out, he continued to climb the club's all-time appearance table. In December 2008 he overtook Ron Yeats to enter the top 20.

History will undoubtedly judge the big Finn to be one of the club's shrewdest pieces of business - and possibly the best pound for pound signing ever to arrive at Anfield.

Gutted to see Sami go, an absolute legend for Liverpool through out his 10 years. Will be solely missed.

Good luck Sami

A brilliant servant for the last 10 years, complete legend and as the report suggests one of the best value for money buys since the start of the Premier League. Hope he gets some game time before the end of the season at anfield and gets the send off he deserves!
