Having missed the Sunday game the last night, went to RTE's watch back facility this morning, having scanned through to find the Mayo match, found the break before it aroun 28 minutes in a let it play on. How surprised was I to hear the audio from the in studio chat flit in and out and the video of the lads chatting in between segments and Anthony Tohill getting his make up applied, and the lads getting a breif on who scored and what time for the next game.

General discussion / Prince cancels show in HQ
June 10, 2008, 11:50:34 AM
Apparently Prince has canceled his upcoming heavily advertised show in Croke Park according to Jim Carroll of the Irish times.

"And the first major casualty of the Irish outdoor season is....
Filed under: Live music — Jim Carroll @ 10:02 am

Stand by for some breaking news today on the first big no-show of the season. We believe the sick note will be as good as Bertie's explanation about winning all that cash on the horses.

UPDATE Prince has cancelled his show at Dublin's Croke Park next Monday. Per promoters MCD, 55,161 tickets were sold for this show (by the way, this is the first time I've ever seen a major promoter give a ticket tally like this for a show). The reason for the cancellation is given as "due to reasons beyond the control of PRINCE and MCD Productions"."

GAA Discussion / €60k a year for a school team
June 05, 2008, 04:43:35 PM
I don't know if this was raised here already, but I was reading Ray Silke's column in the Galway Advertiser today where he brings up an interview in last Saturday's Irish Times where the manager of De La Salle Waterford team said it cost €60k to run the schools senior hurling team this year. Where did a school get €60k for a sports team, while I'm all in favour of proper preperation for school teams, But €60K for 30 students what could the school do with that money for other things.

They don't have the sports section up so I can't link or paste it, but you can read it in their digital edition on the website

General discussion / New Creative Zen
November 27, 2007, 01:29:54 PM
On the look out for a new MP3 player at the minute and I was looking into the new Creative Zen. Saw it in a shop yesterday, looks a really nice bit of kit. It seem's to have all the features you'd want, music, video, photo, fm radio and the likes. It also said on the box it'll play AAC files, which itunes use, but the realy big selling point that's making me consider it is the SD Card facility, where from my reading of it you can increase your memory as big as you want up to what ever size sd card you can get.
Has anyone on the board got one of these and would the recomend it.

Having bought the first pile of crap last year has anyone any info on this new revised version.

I'm sure there has been a thread on this already but couldn't find it. I'm heading to Barcelona for a week on Thursday and was wondering does anyone know where I'd be able to watch the football and hurling over the weekend out there.

General discussion / Seanad Éireann
June 28, 2007, 12:16:18 PM
I was reading John Waters column in the Times during the week when he was going on about the Seanad elections and how even though he's a college graduate he doesn't get a vote in the elction. It's about time that the vote was opened up to all College graduates (if that's the way they are going to keep it, along with the other panels) rather than just those with degrees from NUI's and TCD. Because it's saying that those from DCU, UL and all the IT'S in the country aren't at the same level as the NUI's and TCD

GAA Discussion / Connacht MFC Roscommon v Mayo
June 20, 2007, 08:48:55 AM
With all the hype surrounding the senior championship game against Galway back in May, it's now the time of the minors to show us what they are worth. Saw them against both Sligo and Galway in the minor league which they looked impressive enough in, but that's been a while ago. How does the board see this one go against last years All Ireland champions. This is the first test of Dempsey's intercounty management will he be able to guide Mayo to their first Connacht title in a couple of years.

With the league now in full pelt, it's time for the first Mayo Galway showdown of the year. Game is on Saturday in Pearce Stadium at 2.30pm. So how do the boards experts see it going it the clash of the last two champions in the grade
