GAA Discussion / Outage
November 23, 2021, 11:17:51 AM
Hi all,

We had a server crash on the hosting site that caused some of our data to go wonky.
Fingers crossed it should all be resolved now!

General discussion / Server change
July 21, 2011, 02:34:29 AM
We've moved to a more performant server at a different IP address.
It can take a couple of hours, or a couple of days for the new location of the gaaboard.com domain to be picked up by various ISPs, so in the meantime, the new instance of the forum can be accessed direcctly like below.

http://209.200.237.116/~gaabo3/board/index.php

In a few days, we'll switch the forum root url back to being gaaboard.com/board/index.php etc.

If you come across any glitches from the migration, drop me a pm.

Regards,
Admin

GAA Discussion / Clarification
March 19, 2008, 07:51:00 AM
This post is to clarify some recent issues that have arisen with regards to the moderating of the board.

This board's commitment is to provide a resource to those interested in reading and contributing to quality GAA (and other) discussion. A great depth of appreciation will always lie with the excellent contributors whose knowledgeable posts have greatly enhanced the forum over the years.

As has happened on many internet discussion forums, through time, there appears to be a trend for the emergence of characters whose primary role and concern is to cause nuisance and to drag debate downward. Unfortunately, it has proven necessary to have moderators to protect and promote the integrity of this forum.

The moderators role is to facilitate useful debate. Action taken in furtherance of that aim is not taken lightly. Decisions are made in good faith and with the best interests of the forum being the primary consideration.

It is not the place of the board to engage in public debate with third parties regarding every specific action taken. This is especially the case where the directly affected members themselves have not sought clarification through the channels available to them. Such debate would create a precedent of having to provide reasons behind every administrative decision taken, which would be unworkable. From a practical perspective, members need to understand that some deference needs to be given to the moderators.

If a directly affected member is genuinely aggrieved by a decision, then it is open to them to engage privately (within reason) by email (this can be done from private email addresses) or through the private message facility on the board, whichever is appropriate in the circumstances. This has worked well in the past and it is hoped that this mode of communication would continue to lead to the resolution of similar matters in the future.

As always, the admin can be emailed at admin@gaaboard.com and a reply will be given as soon as practicable.
