What You Wish For, starring Nick Stahl, very enjoyable thriller/dark comedy.

Quote from: bennydorano on October 20, 2024, 10:54:53 PMWoman of the Hour appeared on Netflix over the weekend. Very impressive movie, I never expect to much from Netflix movies tbh but this was great, Anna kendrick starred and also her directorial debut. An unsettling watch, but vg.

Enjoyed this too. Only an hour and a half. I'd never heard of Rodney Alcala.
He is a lot worse than even the movie portrayed him.

I just watched "Trouble" a Swedish Comedy/Drama. It was funny if unbelievable. Depending too much on coincidences to carry the plot. Nevertheless an enjoyable distraction.
Never underestimate the power of complaining

If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

Seen Heretic last weekend. Though it was easily one of the best horror movies I have seen in quite a while. Hugh Grant superb.

2 cinema runs over the past week...

Juror #2, the new Clint Eastwood directed film - 5/10. It's grand and certainly worth a watch.  It has some 12 Angry Men vibes at times. Interesting story and well done.

Small Things Like These - 7/10. I'll start with saying that Cillian Murphy is outstanding again. A horrible time, that deserves films like this to shine some light on it. I'm maybe just being over pernickety here but I just expected it to be a little better; more detail in the story, and moved along a little quicker. Still, well worth a watch.

Watched Juror #2 last week in a rare cinema trip too. Similar review to LB above although I'm more generous in my scoring - not a patch on Clint's best but worth a watch when it hits the small screen. 6.5/10.

Here's a question.....

Where the feck  are you meant  to  see films now?

I've been meaning to see Banshees of Inisherin , as I was on Inishmore just  after they filmed it , and want to see some of the  places I was  at.  Over 2 years  later , still not seen it.

Are there  DVDs any more?

I'm not on  Netflix or  anything like that , nor  don't intend to be.

Will I have to contact Brendan Gleeson personally to  see if he has a copy?

You can usually rent movies on Amazon, but almost everything has gone subscription based.

Caught the 30th Anniversary of Pulp Fiction on the big screen yesterday, it was this weeks Flashback Cinema.

$5 well spent. I have watched it so many times but never all that much with other people. What was really new to me was how many black humor laughs the movie elicited from the packed theatre. I'd never caught that absurd aspect of the movie before, despite maybe 30-40 viewings. I did however feel that way about much of his later work (Inglorious, Django, and certainly Hateful 8).

Banshees is on Disney+...

I've heard that the dodgy box has basically every film you could want... from a friend obviously!

The only film I've not been able to find streaming anywhere is The Field but it's actually on YouTube!

Another upvote for Woman of the Hour, mentioned above.  It is very good; Anna Kendrick is almost always good to watch, and she is clearly also a talented director.  Daniel Zovatto very good too as the charming and creepy serial killer.

Gladiator 2, top class.  Would nearly go again.  Definitely a cinema show too

Yep. Watched it yday afternoon and really enjoyed it. Not up there with the original but would definitely agree that it should be watched in the cinema for those battle scenes.

Some crowds at the cinema for Gladiator 2. Every session seemed to be packed. Yes it maybe doesn't hit the height of the 1st one but who expected that to be the case. It's a quality movie in it's own right. I'll certainly watch it again.

I have to say too, it's a great cast. They all do a great job. Big pressure on Paul Mescal and he is really good in this. He edges towards the style of maximus but he's also definitely his own man. I think the balance was struck well.
