Milltown Row2

There are some musicals (films) that probably don't work on the big screen, but, you watch them in a theatre, with an amazing cast/singers and it's just superb.

I can still harp back to a few old western musicals that were films and have fond memories of them, those songs still stick out today.

Quote from: lurganblue on October 13, 2024, 11:18:38 PMThe 2nd Joker... well, what to say. It's certainly different. Lots of musical scenes and at times I thought it was very cleverly done. By the end though, it was over played for me.

I'll not spoil it. But I didn't like the ending and felt that it was taken in the wrong direction.

I can see loads of people hating it. Probably a 5/10.

Haven't seen it yet. Top movie Critics giving it a low rating compared to the first film so it appears adding Lady Gaga to the cast and making the 2nd film more of a musical has somewhat backfired?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Watched the Salem's Lot remake. Maybe it's rose tinted glasses on how good the original really was but the remake is extremely poor. The original haunted me for years as a kid (who shouldn't have been watching it in the first place).

Oh I liked the look of the remake too. I'm a little too young for when the original was released but I watched it in and around 20 years ago and thought it was awfully dated, even then.

I gave up on the remake after about an hour. It was just flat out bad.  So bad, I went and rewatched the original.  It hasn't aged well, let's say.  But it's still a lot better than the remake.

Yeah the old one hasn't faired well but definitely scared/scared the bejesus out of me.

Very rare to find a decent original horror nowadays

I really liked Joker II... thought Lady GAGA was brilliant. Critics seem to have an issue that it was a musical. I enjoyed it. Very different than the first... but plenty of the madness of it..

A Man Called Otto on Netflix, hadn't heard of it but saw it had Tom Hanks so gave it a go.
Actually really enjoyed it.
The Cranky old man is not the normal Hanks character, which made it for me.

Thanks for that.  Enjoyable movie, and poignant too - perhaps a sign that I'm getting old.

Woman of the Hour appeared on Netflix over the weekend. Very impressive movie, I never expect to much from Netflix movies tbh but this was great, Anna kendrick starred and also her directorial debut. An unsettling watch, but vg.

I watched this at the weekend.  Sad oul show. Definitely worth the watch.

I also watched Jaws again for the first time in like 25 years.  That film has stood the test of time well in my opinion. You forget how well it is shot!

A Man Called Ove the original is very good based on novel of same name. Arguably better.

Beetlejuice sequel is surprisingly decent. Ending could have used a little more thought (especially how they used Monica Bellucci's character), but found it enjoyable overall. Kids loved it too. Michael Keaton was born to play that role!

Enjoyed this too. Only an hour and a half. I'd never heard of Rodney Alcala.
