The video in this link, showing his arrest, is hilarious.

Definitely. There are boys in the Armagh Gazette regularly with 100+ convictions and they get a wee rap on the knuckles and sent on their way.

Always thought there should be some cap that warrants a big sentence, i.e. 5 convictions and you get 5 years lol.

Saw a story last week too where a ma murdered her child then killed herself. You would swear both of them died in an accident with the reaction towards the ma, 'she was the best mum' etc. No, she wasn't. She murdered her child. Nothing worse can be done to a human.

Not exactly what I'd call 'normal murder' circumstances. When there's a murder\suicide the person committing the acts has just lost the plot. I don't think there's any evil intent.

Mandatory minimums often result in increased crime and are counterproductive to what they are trying to achieve

Difference in viewpoint when the culprit is the father though. The man is usually classed as the epitome of evil, whereas the woman is viewed through a different lens.

Surely the fact that the repeat offenders are out of the picture for large periods of time will reduce the number of crimes?

No strangely it doesn't. Those impacted tend to become ostracised and disenfranchised resulting in higher recidivism. Also tying the hands of sentencers tends to result in less faith in the justice system which also leads to increased crime rates.
