New UK target for 81% emissions cut by 2035

QuoteThe switch towards greener energy has already halved the UK's annual greenhouse gas emissions since 1990 - but the CCC has previously said further reductions will be difficult without lifestyle changes.

The government advisers said taxes on meat and dairy might be needed if people do not voluntarily reduce their consumption of the products, and there should be moves to phase out the use of petrol cars.

Speaking at the summit, Sir Keir said the new UK target would be "difficult" but "achievable", and he wanted government to "tread lightly on people's lives".

"It's not about telling people how to live their lives – I'm not interested in that," he added.

First the budget last week financially driving ordinary farmers out of existence, then this announcement.... all while supporting a genocidal terrorist state. Couple this with Trumps hard Zionist picks for his administration and what plays out from that.

Surely I'm not the only one who sees the '1984' world we're moving toward at an ever increasing pace?

You are.

I'm starting to think people who peddle this nonsense have never actually the great novel by George Orwell.

This climate change bollcoks again.. Apparently we've had warmest year on record, yet everyone and their mums had their heating on through summer.

Sooner people see it's just another way to tax the shit out of ordinary people the better.

This "climate change is just an excuse to tax us" bollocks again.

The planet had its warmest year on record. The effects will be different in different places.

The UK government spend billions a year on green initiatives. If they wanted to spoof you with climate change as a way to raise money, wouldn't they just admit that its nonsense and not spend the money?

Think man ffs.

The best decision for the world is not determined by one individual's house.

People of a certain age bound to realise the weather changed considerably. We no definitive weather season now, Winter was nearly snow most years. Summers were hot, yes sometimes with heavy rain, but it was easy to tell the different seasons. Never seen a November as warm as last week, while the summer was again a poor year. Climate change doesn't necessarily meaning heating up in the same location everywhere in the world.

Exactly. Climate change isn't even a debate amongst the science community anymore. It's just a fact. That said, coal, oil and gas are probably going nowhere for at least 20 years (at least) as we haven't mastered energy storage from solar, wind, hydro etc. just yet.

The leaders of 200+ countries flying  in their private planes, to an  oil rich  state (again) to talk about  climate change.

Hmm ,  forgive me  for  being a tad  cynical about it all

They need to get nuclear energy back on the table. Technology has advanced and scaled down, lessons have been learned. It has to be part of the solution as energy demands are not going to dramatically decrease.

I can't stand Trump, but I hope he'll pursue it.

Your cynicism doesn't change the reality we need to address and adapt to.

When do you want me to visit? Because it has experienced flooding for the past 100 odd years.. 81 people died in 1957, suppose that was climate change?

As AP says about all the leaders etc.. It's like people don't want to do some research, taxing people on what they eat ie Meat/Diary - then why not make farming more accessible in each country so relying on less imports?

Labour - Tax farmers more

China and India make up over 40% of the pollution, why's the responsibility on UK/Ire to cut pollution? Already 50 times less.

Hold on, we've 10s of millions of flights / year, most of us taking multiple flights / year ourselves, yet you're cynical re climate change because 200 planes are taking World leaders to try and find solutions? OK

What's the carbon consumption of the average person from India or China compared to Ireland and Britain?

And while weather disasters have of course always occurred, it's the frequency and the extremes which is increasing.
