When you're under as much pressure as Ten Hag is, results in every game count and its madness to be prioritising future games over the one he's currently playing. For however shite Rashford has been for the last 18 months, he was their best player in the 1st half.

As said it is a matter of when not if. If Villa put 3 or 4 past them this weekend its hard to see him keeping his job.

Just baffled by what I'm watching as I am by the pundits who claim Ten Hag doesn't have a style of play, there's a clear style of play its just not working and amazed he continues with it.

Even Martinez who's been a revelation since he joined was dreadful last night, whole back 4 like against Spurs were made too look crap and thats down to the system. We are way too easy to play against, there's space everywhere and doesn't help when you've the likes of Rashford who makes half arsed attempts at closing down. I've heard countless pundit comment Rashford was brilliant last night and completely ignore his defending in both goals.

Play the same way against Villa Sunday and he's likely to be sacked on Monday, I was delighted he got the chance this season but the excesses have run out now as everyone bar Shaw is available. Thats a good squad, nowhere near as bad as made out by some and looks like he's incapable of getting the best out of them.

Go to Villa and replicate what he did in the cup final and work on tightening up his system over the international break, wishful thinking on my behalf though!

It was  always going to turn out this way.

ETH  was clearly out of his depth this time last year. Last season was a  disaster , bar a good first half in FA  cup final against a  lacklustre City.

The club never came out and backed  him  after the  cup final , and waited weeks before confirming  he was  staying. ETH should have walked away after the cup final , as his reputation would have been  enhanced. Instead , he remained, and his reputation is now in  tatters.

We all knew the same old shite would  continue in the new season . I  said  he'd be gone before Christmas before a ball was  kicked. That looks very unlikely even  now.

The season is already  a write off.  If he limped on for another month or  two , it won't matter. The odd good result now won't  mean diddly.  ETH clearly is out of his depth,  the  squad is poor and there is  a lot of deadwood to shift. A temporary manager will limp on to season's end.  A new manager won't be found until the summer , then he'll have  to work miracles in  his first season otherwise he's under pressure too.

The club is an  absolute shitshow.

I don't know. Chasing a game and they bring on Anthony and Zirkzee. Jury still out on the latter but very ordinary track record. Then Maguire and Evans. After £600m spent. I think he's made a hames of the squad TBH.

They desperately need goals soon. Hojlund is back but hardly been prolific. Huge pressure on him now. Rashford needs to step up but not someone I would be putting the house on. Garnacho great prospect but end product not there (yet?). Fernandes looks completely fed up.

Ok, couple of good results and the picture will look different but the weekend is huge.

MM do you not think the CB's look all at sea last night because of who was playing in front of them?

Casimero is not capable of playing a holding midfield role on his own any more. Combine that with Dalot seemingly having a free role, meant that there was gaps every where in front of them and to the sides of them.
I would say they were glad to get off in the end.

He has to rotate the squad its just that when he does the depth isnt there. I do think with a system change there is more solidity within the squad but he seems reluctant to change.

To a degree yes and also the positioning of the fullbacks, the while setup has gaps everywhere and making good players look incompetent. Martinez now getting a slating from Keown, the lad has been brilliant since his first game and that level hasn't dropped. De Ligt had a good season at Bayern and fans were gutted to see him leave, seen enough of our new right back in the first few games to knows he's a good player and Dalot was brilliant from xmas onwards at right back. Players are been hung out too dry by this crazy system, looks like the players have lost faith in him too.

Not having this is a poor group of players, its the best squad since Fergie left. I think the depth is better then people are making out, we'll know in time. He either changes this system (won't happen) or he won't last the month.

I don't see it myself. No proper double digit goal scorer (Hojlund could go either way). Poor CM options. I always felt previous managers had good squads and talk of clear outs was fanciful and dangerous until they settled on a manager who really suited the club.
This manager is probably the worst they've settled on and gave him £600m backing.
But who knows, maybe the talent is there with a good man in charge, I just really don't see it.

In any case they need to get some sort of press going, get some sort of forward momentum, start hitting the back of the net to relieve some of the pressure.
13th in the league, everyone above them has scored more goals and only one below them has scored less. That's pretty grim.

I like the part where he plays with no discernible midfield, like a patented 5-0-5 formation, ne'er the twain shall meet

Maybe they play in a separate backs and forwards league we don't know about, or the headers and volleys cup?

Last night was only a training session for the real deal, Harry and Bruno definitely been practicing if last night is anything to go by

5 at the back would be an improvement - it's usually 3 with Dalot standing in the 10 position beside the rest of them.

I had this on in the car last night on a right journey.  Andy Townsend was scathing of Rashford in the 1st half.  Although he said Rashford had been their most dangerous attacking outlet, it was commented regularly that his defensive efforts were shocking.  And then when the 2nd half started, both commentators were in shock that he had been hooked!?

The only way you can let a fella away with that is if he's named Cristiano or Lionel and you're scoring or creating all the time

SAF off the payroll from the end of the season, shocking that he's been kept on this long and to the extent that he has, for all his managerial genius and club icon status he sure knew how to put himself first and foremost, bleeding another £20-30m from the club, the rot is deep at Utd, but a positive sign that a tough decision like this has been taken, or maybe an easy decision that needed someone with the balls to make it

An aboslute genius but i agree with the above. He shouldve been cut loose when he stepped down as manager. And you could say the rot started with Fergie over the Rock of Gibralter fiasco. Then the nonsense of there is no value in the market.
