Quote from: screenexile on Today at 08:56:53 PMBut the overall championship had a lot more better games... do we just judge it on QFs and SFs??

Any new rules or new formats are ultimately judged on knock out championship football.

Quote from: snoopdog on Today at 07:27:23 PM2 poor enough semi finals. Very disappointing as a neutral.

Majority of the knockout games in this years championship has been disappointing for neutrals. If we get a good close final all pundits and journalists will ignore that and try to convince us all that everything has been great under these new rules.

So same as it ever was.

New rules was sold on improving the product.  The business end of the championship last year had better and more competitive games for neutrals to watch than this summer.

The opportunity for Jim McGuinness to cement his legacy or like 2014 All-Ireland final Kerry to be his kryptonite once more.

Did he give man of the match to a Meath player?

Few good top quality games in this championship since the group stages finished. New rules promised a lot more or were hyped up to be.

Quote from: Truthsayer on Today at 04:45:19 PMMen against boys as I expected. Meath very average team overhyped by wins over Kerry and Dublin who didn't need to win those games. Louth showed the reality in Leinster final.
Jimmy winning this one!
They've done great to get this far but they today they look like the div 2 team that didnt get promoted. Its probably as poor a half as donegal played this year and they are still well ahead
Monaghan the last day was much worse.    Meath six scores from 16 shots is simply not good enough with a strong wind advantage,  the occasion has got the better of them?

Two black cards the Down ref has missed/ignored now.

Christ, they're not short on confidence anyway

He was just like a few Meath posters on this thread.  Was quick to dismiss the defeat to Louth  also ;D

Quote from: greatpoint on July 12, 2025, 07:21:13 PMDid Tyrone put too much store in beating Donegal in the group stages? It wasn't even a knockout game.

Fell into the same trap as Armagh by putting too much in beating Dublin in Croke Park who created as many chances as Kerry today however aren't a good team anymore.

Quote from: Captain Obvious on July 12, 2025, 06:50:28 PMFive wins for Kerry in the last six championship meetings now against Tyrone and today they eased past Tyrone in a similar fashion to the 2023 All Ireland Quarter final and could easily have been 12 point winning margin had Kerry was more ruthless today.

Half the journalists when Kerry meet Tyrone again in the 2027 1/4 final:
"Kerry up against their bogey team again"

No doubt such lazy analysis will be used.

GAA Discussion / Re: Tailteann Cup 2025

Quote from: rodney trotter on July 12, 2025, 12:53:24 PMLimerick have probaly the best forward in the Tailtean in James Naughton. Danny Neville is a solid player and the keeper Josh Ryan. Kildare were poor and wasteful against Fermanagh. It will be different conditions today with the heat, but kildare should be winning. They cant afford to lose a Division 3 League final and Tailtean Cup final and expect to compete next year.
I'd say Luke Loughlin of Westmeath was the best forward in the Tailtean Cup this year.

Kildare have Alex Beirne who scored more than James Naughton in this campaign. The weather conditions should suit athletic team like Kildare and Limerick are unlikely to set up defensively like Fermanagh.

One thing losing a league final to inspired Mickey Harte Offaly team who will play in division two alongside them next year however another thing altogether to somehow mess up today in a final they should be winning by at least 5 or 6 points.

Quote from: BigGreenField on July 09, 2025, 08:16:53 PMEejits with notions. A squad that had fallen apart with a lot of miles on the clock that needs rebuilt while adjusting to new rules and which doesn't have the quality to glide through.

Tally did a decent job for the most part (some wobbles).
Aye, he did everything right except win a match.

Not that I'm blaming him. Nor do I think he should be got rid of. But not winning a match in a year is some "wobble".

2 draws,9 defeats in 11 league and championship games under Tally. The two draws against Galway who were eventually taken out by Meath.

And your point is?
A lot more than some wobbles.

McGeeney took, what 6 years to win a championship game. Never got Armagh promoted out of Div 2 in those years, that's wobble central and look what happened ..kneejerk from the CB, man deserved another year

McGeeney first came on board as Paul Grimley's coach on the team that lost the All Ireland Quarter final narrowly to Donegal in 2014.

Was it the Derry county board or the players responsible for allowing Mickey Harte leave after just one year? he led Derry to their first Divison one league title for 16 years and reached the last eight of the championship which was a decent job.  Nobody would have the opinion Harte did a  "decent job for the most part (some wobbles)" had he the record of Tally this year.
