Bella Italia is great if you want to do day trips. Handy access to train in the walkable town of Peschira that takes you directly to Verona and Venice. The town itself has lots of nice touristy restaurants and cafes, perfect for evening strolls.
Bus or boat access to other lakeside towns.
We didn't go, but Gardaland theme park is very handy.
The site itself is fairly big and you have option of apartments - advice seems to be to book directly.
Loads of Irish, even in September.

Listened to a podcast series that covered each person/line from We Didn't Start The Fire and it was fascinating.

I went to the match today. First time. I was talking to a guest of my colleague about GAA, and a girl in front of me and her partner turned round and told me to be quiet (no one was taking a penalty...).

I'm calling it racially motivated - they were blatantly anti-GAA and/or Anti-Northern.

The later trains are sold out.  I'm bringing a client and have booked the first plus on this train, so would really like to get it.
There's a DART at Lansdowne Rd that gets to Connolly in 12 mins or so.  But I think I'd have to factor in the risk that I don't get near the DART platform.  I could also walk to the Point and get the Luas.

Going to the Aviva (first time) next Sat for Ireland v Australia.

I'm on a tight deadline - how long is it likely to be between kick off at 3.10 and the finish of the game?  I know 40 mins per half etc, but what's the general experience?  Have a train from Connolly at 5.50pm.  I've acknowledged I'll prob have to leave early, but how early?

Clann Eireann ladies won Ulster today. Has a double ever been done?

Pro Football Talk (NFL chat programme).

Every weekday night, he sneaks in and puts in on the living room TV while I'm getting the PJs on the kids.

Quote from: Evil Genius on November 01, 2024, 07:17:38 PMAnd that is Stormont's problem how?

I mean, the Dail can find €50m to fund Casement, why could that not have been diverted to Clones. You know, within its own jurisdiction...

Ulster finals include teams from all over Ulster, it is makes equal sense to Stormont to assist with Clones as it does for Dublin to help with Casement.
Except it doesn't make sense for Dublin to assist with Casement.  ::)

And if I were a taxpayer in ROI, I'd be hopping mad at that, esp while Clones (and others) could do with every last cent.
You wouldn't be hopping mad if you were an Irish nationalist living in the south. Particularly if you acknowledge the positive financial impact the northern GAA supporters have on the southern economy year in, year out. Disproportionately so compared with the southern supporters in the north. VAT receipts alone from
Northern fans likely to be significant. Don't think Cricket Ireland has the same impact, but I could be wrong.

Quote from: Sportacus on September 13, 2024, 09:02:05 PMPut the Irish Gov money into a Clones upgrade and keep it for Ulster Finals.

Use the Executive and GAA money to build Casement Plan B - basically an Athletic Grounds+ in Belfast.  And give it back to Antrim, with good governance commitments made, and with an obligation for MacRory finals etc.

And never let the British Government darken the door again.

A quick end to the whole sorry episode.
Sensible suggestions

Wondered that - are they allowed to do anything but go to church? I've never seen the like of it. Wish I'd heard what he'd shouted at the men working.

Saw a "WTF" incident this morning. Drove through Waringstown on road to Banbridge from Lurgan at 8.30am this morning (Sunday). Passed a jogger, then we had to stop at temporary traffic lights as they were working at the road (think it was the circet people). The jogger ran up past, grabbed the sign that says "Stop here on red light" and flung it to the ground, then ran on, shouting and wagging his finger at the workers.
The only thing I could think of was that he was annoyed at them working on a Sunday. Could that be right (bearing in mind it is a very unionist wee village)? It's not like they were using a pneumatic drill or anything that could have been considered anti-social.

Have you not asked this before? No, but you can fly to Biarritz and get the bus.

Stayed at Delray Beach just north of Ft Lauderdale for a few days (chased out by a hurricane). It was a nice town with some cute hotels, bars/restaurants. Less than an hr from Miami Airport. Didn't get to explore the area because of hurricane but the beachy towns seemed nice and only 20 mins from Trump's house 😜
