I see Smith got a one match ban for the eye gouging incident.

It was for endangerment. No mention of "eye gouging".

It seems retaliation isn't an offence any more though.

Don't be an ass (repeatedly) ffs. At this stage there should be a specific ban for an eye gouge so there's no ambiguity (there's unfortunately been a few in recent years) of a year ban. 1 match ban is nothing short of a disgrace

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the retirement of George Groves. A fighter who grew on me over the years and I was pleased that he eventually lifted a world title. Was comprehensively beaten by Callum Smith and was sensible enough to know his time was up at that level. It seems that the fight in which he seriously injured Guknecht played a factor in his decision and I'm not sure he was the same fighter after that incident.

I noticed Carl Froch was classy as usual with his comments.

It's a pity Froch has proven to be such a co*k in post his boxing career - I loved him as a fighter

One of the boxing heads at work sent me Froch's message to Groves:

"If you've never boxed, you will never understand the profound respect between two fighters, even if they don't like each other.

Would agree with Benny, Groves definitely grew on me as well post Froch fights. A warrior in the ring. Re Froch, a great fighter who, up until the Groves fights carried himself well and respected his opponents. Groves got under his skin and Froch fought fire with fire. I also enjoy his analysis ringside during bouts. Now I'm not any social media, so he could be a complete ar$e on there.

Generally, the pundits on RTE are OK, but Brolly is now his own tribute band. Best work done about five years ago and all his current stuff is repetition or just dross. 

Meanwhile, on RTE Radio yesterday, that other self tribute band, Colm O'Rourke, was giving it loads about the GAA pricing structure for the League when he actually stated that if a family of five, two adults and three kids were going to a National league match, it would cost them a hundred euro.  This was unchallenged totally by Jacqui Hurley and Dessie Dolan, also in the studio.  It took the GAA to actually call in to the show and state that faftually, thery were wrong and that if they bought their tickets online, that family of five could go for 30 Euro, which works out at 6Euro per person, rather than the 30 he was suggesting. 

When the national broadcaster brings in people so lazy that they couldn't be bothered to even research something as simple, as well known and as talked about as prices to a match, what hope have we. 

He then tried to fob it off by sayin the GAA were getting 'touchy'.  Yeah Colm.  You keep spreading lies and when the GAA tries to put the record straight using fact, just call them 'touchy'.  That's the way to go.

We were discussing this very point in the car on the way home yesterday , O'Rourke did prefix kids with 'teenage' in fairness, so could have talking about those over 16. But he did lay it on fairly thick.

Definitely not blaming the ref (though it may have sounded like it right enough) , just pointing out he's had better days (I hope)! Our inability, which has haunted Derry teams for a long time, to see out games, poor decision making and as you say, not being clinical enough allowed Antrim to claw it back to a one point game. Very cold surely but the hail stones stayed away pretty much!
No8, big McAtamney had a couple of run ins with.. I'm 99% sure he was wearing 8, maybe 18 as the eyeballs may have frozen over!

PS: the McAtamney incident at the end (for clarification) . I watched the last 10 mins in the clubhouse upstairs and was looking right down on it. Big Conor never laid a hand on your man and he planted both feet and fell forward looking to buy the free. The ref was standing a few feet away and waved the Antrim man up. I was standing at the windows with about 15 Antrim folk, none shouting for a free.

Well that was nervy enough day. The last 10 odd minutes was a fair old roller-coaster. Much like Castlebar last night the conditions ruined the game as a spectacle. Atticus, 'sense of entitlement', do us a favour, jesus. Sorry but you're way off the mark with the ref. Pains me to complain about an official (too much!) , but he was absolutely brutal today. 2 nailed on penalties and a nailed on 3rd that wasn't given in the 2nd half. Antrim constantly holding the hand in the tackle with another couple of men battering at the man  in possession, result? A free for over carrying again and again again. Woeful decision after woeful decision. Enda Lynn taken out time and time again. The Postie incident. Did Antrim no 8 (was trying to kill dead things the whole match) even get a ticking or a yellow?

Anyway 2 points banked and we'll push on.

Widows. Decent enough watch 7/10

Huge credit to both teams for a serious battle in attrocious conditions, conditions which make the game a bit of a lottery. Its funny reading posts and the sheer bias for or against a certain county is plain to see. The ref didn't overly 'ride' either team imo. Both teams were cynical at times, players from both over carried at times etc etc...,

Is there a specific ban for an eye gouge does anyone know? D Smith deserves a very hefty ban for that carryon, nasty.

Good side, hopefully the men do the business tomorrow and get off to a good start. Alot of work done on kickouts apparently, so will be interesting to see how it's coming along.
