The most comprehensive read is Atlas of the Irish Revolution. After that, local histories are some of the best sources. I also would use the Bureau of Military History archives for first hand accounts.

Totally shocked by this. Always a fair observer of all things GAA and his beloved Mayo. Thinking of his family may he rest in peace.

One of the heroes of my childhood. A great player and GAA man, hurling and football. RIP Brian

42 bus will also get you there. They all stop at the bus stop across the road from Connolly Station as well. Eden Quay or Talbot St also good places to leave from.

My father passed away this year and although not from Mayo he had a deep admiration of Paddy Prendergast. A wonderful player by all accounts and very sad to hear of his passing. RIP

A brilliant player forever wrapped up in the memory of 1986. That brilliant goal against England and his tour de force against Belgium in the semi. It was his tournament. The greatest I've seen. His genius, charisma, his troubled personal life and his humble origins endeared him to the Neapolitans in a way that few if any others have managed at any club. RIP Diego

Padraig Mannion would have been my choice but congratulations to Cian Lynch, a fine hurler and ambassador for the game.

On a different note I was saddened to hear of the death of Leonard Enright, a great fullback on a Limerick team that interrupted Cork hegemony in Munster. May he rest in peace.
