Laois / Re: Laois Senior Football Championship 2022

I realy enjoyed the second game this evening between O'Dempseys and St. Joseph's.
It looked all over when O'Dempsey's were reduce to 14 players
in the second half.  St. Joseph's took over and looked like winners and wemt 3
points ahead with only a few minutes to go but what a finish by
O'Dempsey's to score a goal and kick the last 3 points, O'Dempsey's are a nice team can they go all the way?

Looking forward to football quarter finals this weekend.

O'Dempseys v St Joseph's, hard to call,

Ballyroan v Port, I think Ballyroan are up for this game, expect fireworks,

Clonaslee to give Portlaoise a good rattle,

Courtwood v Graiguecullen ( Courtwood to cause a shock? )

Great game in O'Moore park today
Portarlington to lose their full back just before the game
and their no.4 getting a black card in the first half,
and if that wash't enough to lose their goalkeeper with a leg injury
in the second half and then to go a point behind, but they showed some courage
to come and kick the last 3 points and hold out for a great win
Well done Port .

Laois / leinster club championship

Having seen St.Lomans a few times they are a very experience side
winning 6 westmeath c/ship in the last 10 years and competing in
the leinster club c/ship as well, they defend in large number and break
very fast they tackle hard as well, O'Toole and Heslin two class forwards
hard to know how this Port team will do playing in there first leinster c/ship.

Correct if i'm wrong, laois beat armagh twice in the last two years
beat westmeath and offaly in the leinster championship
i think we drew away to roscommon
got to a leinster final, with a good few players from the team yesterday
these same counties are certainly improving
and we are going backwards.  ANSWER THAT

All the good vibes coming out of the camp all week
yet we were clueless today questions need to be
asked about this management team do they know
how to coach and improve this team we were in
div.2 for the last few years and we should be getting
better we looked like a div.3 team today
its just not good enough.

It is a bit like groundhog day but im sorry im going to have a whinge. After the unbelievably heart throbbing and unexpectedly exciting 2019, I cant help but feel extremely disappointed with the unavailability of so many players. I was sure all last years panel would be back with the addition of maybe 10 lads that also should have been there.
2019 was massive for Laois hurling, I never though I would witness such a day as we had against Dublin in the town. If you told me this time last year that we would be taking on Tipp in an all Ireland quarter final in Croke park, I would have said your off your rocker. If you told me that we would give them a serious rattle too with 14 men for half the game I would be sending you to a psychologist too. I was never as proud as I was for those three weeks. People in South Laois had a real spring in their step, a smile on their face and hope in their hearts.
You ask me why im so downbeat now? Well here it is
Cha Dwyer
Joe Campion
Picky Maher
Ciaran Collier
Leigh Bergin
Cahir Healy
Gearoid Burke
Ben Conroy
Dwayne Palmer
PJ Scully
Sean Downey
Cian Taylor
Eoin Fleming
Mark Dowling
Tricky Joe
Robbie Phelan
Stephen Phelan
There are injuries too but they can be excused. For the rest I guess its a life choice but I believe its one these lads will regret in time.
I believe 5 from the above list would start in the championship and at least 5 more would play a part. I dont want to be too critical but I was at the game in Borris last Sunday, i would say three or four of our starting team did not feel the weight of the ball once in the game, these lads are young and will improve but I would be fearful going into such a hard hitting Leinster championship. We have other lads to come in and we wont be too bad but with the list above available I think we would really take a bit of beating. Pity

In previous years,you'd be hearing

No point in committing

The Set up is shite

The management is shite

We are going nowhere, not worth my time

Etc

Etc

Etc

We were a top 6 team in 2019

We gave Tipp more of a rattle with 14 men than what Kilkenny did

And yet the above named crew won't commit, everything is in place to build on last year but it won't happen.

We are facing the mother and father of all battles this year even to stay competitive with everyone on board and lads have turned their backs on the county.

There's no other Liam McCarthy county where you'd have lads refusing to play.

At least next year with Brennan gone and we gone back to disarray and momentum lost,ye can get back to moaning and bitching again

We had our chance,we blew it
I                                 I HOPE YOUR ARE WRONG, BUT I'M GUESSING YOU WILL BE RIGHT, THAT LAOIS ALL OVER

Laois are going to be with out this year's captain Stephen Attride who is taking a year out to work in New Zealand (I think) and the Kingston brothers, Donie and Paul.
I know of a few more from last year team Not Putting there names forward this year
Pity, it took us so long to get back up to div 2,  Now it look like we will be going straight down again.  [sad]
I wonder is that the reason why SURGUE left us,

Laois / Re: Next Laois football manager
August 30, 2019, 10:37:02 PM
Whatever about a manager i want to see laois get a top class coach
preferably someone with a proven track record,we have some good young players coming through
with the players that are already on the senior panel i really believe a good coach could bring our
players up another level, here are a few things we could improved on like  tackling, support play,
short kickouts, in position for breaking ball, ahead in the race for the ball, passing the ball with either hand
and hopping the ball with either hand, learning a player to give fake, shimmy, or a dummy, and keeping
the ball low when the keeper advances, maybe with the right management team in place we could hold
our own in div 2 for the coming season.  I would like to thank John Sugrue for coming in when laois were
at a low point and introducing lots of new players and getting us from div 4 to div 2 in two years well done.

There are lots of good young footballers in our County,
but after watching our seniors, u20, and minors this season
we are crying out for a top class coach,
when Eddie Brennan got the job over our hurlers the first thing
he did was to get a first class coach [Niall Cororan]
the improvement in that team in 8 or 9 months was hard to beleive
their skill level and first touch was much improved,
they were well drilled,
there tackling was very good,
and tracking back,
and got their match-ups good,
they worked their socks off,

So until we get top coaches over our footballers
we are going to stay at the same level and never get near the big teams.
