Derry / Re: Derry Club Football & Hurling original

Quote from: theticklemister on March 12, 2025, 08:01:21 AMMaybe the respective managers don't want to have their teams known to others.
I was thinking this, but a list of players would hardly be giving away state secrets and the minors don't seem to have got a mention anywhere despite playing an official match. But it probably is the reason though I doubt it will contribute to any success they have.
Minor being an age group with unprecedented success over the last two years should be publicised more. And it would also be a reason to promote the u20s, with supporters given the chance to see our Ulster and All Ireland minor winners maybe win something and progress towards senior football. (if any of them are on the panel)

The under 20 panel already exists as they have played a couple of challenge games. The minor team have won a match in the Ulster League, and I have seen neither team or panel named.
Derry LGFA seem to put out a release for panels from under 14 up although not sure they are easy to find, but at least players get a bit of recognition, and I presume feel valued.
Maybe I am being naïve in thinking players and their clubs would take a bit of pride in them being selected for the county and supporters actually knowing it.
Seems to be a problem across the counties and whilst I am sure the PROs are doing their best it does seem a simple thing to put a squad up somewhere and try to generate a bit of interest.
On an optimistic point the tweaks to the new rules might suit Derry since we don't have a big reliance on the roving goalkeeper.

The advantage rule for the Kick Out mark isn't mentioned on the GAA website. It is only referenced in relation to the Advanced mark "An advantage has accrued for an Advanced Mark if the player plays on immediately and scores a goal or a point" - otherwise the ball is brought back for the Advanced Mark.
I'm sure it will be cleared up for everyone come 2026.

Do we know who is in the senior, under 20 or minor squads?

You don't have to be opposed to change to be against some of the rule changes, how they have been implemented, the number of rule changes and that some of the rules are being fundamentally changed as the season progresses.
I watched a challenge match today my understanding is that tomorrow the rules will change and the version of Gaelic football I saw today will never be repeated that cannot be a positive for any sport. The league has been treated as an expirement and club competition at all age groups appear an afterthought.

If a rule isn't working they need to get rid of it otherwise someone is guessing that the ammendment is better. No trials no time to find any flaws and no full proof method of deciding if the change makes things better.

This is lifted from the Down discussion board - my understanding is that each county can decide which of the enhanced rules are implemented at underage level in each age group. My first reading of this was that it sounded fair enough but on second read for u14 with players wanting to take possession for the defending team having to be outside the 40m arc it puts a lot of pressure on the goalkeeper. And I wouldn't want to be refereeing it.

U12 Football:
Whilst it is not officially required that rules be introduced at u12, we see this age as good opportunity to introduce some of their more basic and manageable principles. It is important that we do not detach our juvenile games completely from what our young players watch their County heroes playing in Pairc Esler or on the TV. We would recommend therefore that the following elements of the new FRC rules be introduced at u12 level in 2025;
• 1 v 1 throw-in
• Solo & Go (at u12 level, the Solo & Go may only be utilised when a player is fouled whilst in possession of the ball (physical fouls only). Solo & Go can only be taken by the player who was initially fouled.
• Dissent – Punishable by a 20m advancement

U14 Football:
We would recommend that the following elements of the new FRC rules be introduced at u14
level in 2025;
• 1 v 1 throw-in
• Solo & Go (full implantation)
• Goalkeeper Rule (full implementation)
• New Scoring System (2 points outside 40m arc)
• Dissent - 50m penalty
• 3 v 3 Structure at 15-a-side
• 2 v 2 Structure at 13-a-side

U14 Kickouts:
We would recommend that the following variation of the FRC Kickout Rule be adopted at u14
Level in both League and Championships moving forward:
• Kickouts may be taken from the ground or out of the hands, from the 21m line.
• Players on both teams can position themselves anywhere on the field of play but must remain at least 13m from the player hitting the kickout.
• Any player on the team taking the kickout, wanting to gain possession of the ball directly from the kickout, must be outside the 40m arc, when the ball is kicked (players may move into the arc to gain possession of the ball once the ball is kicked).
• Players from the opposing team may position themselves inside the 40m arc and win possession of the ball.
• Where a team nominate an outfield player to hit the kickout, the player wearing the Goalkeeper jersey must remain inside the small rectangle. This player cannot receive the ball.

U16 & U18 Football:
We would recommend that the following elements of the new FRC rules be introduced at u16
& U18 level in 2025;
• Full Engagement with all aspects of the new FRC Rules
• 3 v 3 Structure at 15-a-side
• 2 v 2 Structure at 13-a-side
Ulster Schools GAA have confirmed to us that they will NOT be implementing the new FRC rules in any of their competitions across the remainder of the 24/25 academic year. We acknowledge that this may cause slight confusion for players playing club and schools football simultaneously, but it will only be for a small window as most of the Ulster Schools competitions will be concluded by Easter

Ref not as strict on 4 steps as he is on the 20 second kickout. These  technical rules are punished far more than physical and tactical fouling.

I read it as you can take a solo and go within 4m. If you are outside the 4m it goes back for a conventional free to the same team.
I am sure we will find out at the weekend when everyone including referees will definitely know what the rules are.

There isn't much interest shown in those watching on TV or spectating as we are no longer in a position to understand what is happening on the pitch.
Also, the rules will not be 'robustly tested' each tweak of the rules could have further unintended consequences which will not be tested properly. And given the raft of changes how does anyone decide which rules or tweaks are enhancing the game and which aren't.

If you land inside the arc after shooting by rule is it 1 or 2 points?

16 teams, the eight provincial finalistsand the highest ranked Allianz League finishers, and 2025 Tailteann Cup winners.
Losing provincial finalists should not be included, it is easier to qualify from some provinces and in all depending on the draw can see teams having an easy route to a final.
I don't really mind the current structure but people in the GAA are obsessed with saying any game that isn't knockout is irrelevant and doesn't mean anything.
