Pat's cute hoorism Tyrone baiting compensated for ALL shortcomings. He took big (stuttering) Colm Cavanagh to the cleaners with just a conspiracy theory (or was it?). Although it doesn't take much, but the fact that most all Tyronies are agitated by well mannered Pat is just yet another testimony to their paranoia and deep insecurity.

Pat only said couple weeks in SW Tyrone conned Kerry last year. He said Tyrone were masters of one in a row and won soft All Ireland in 2021.   He will never get over Tyrone beaten Kerry in 03,05,08.

If I was from Kerry, I would not bring up soft All-Irelands. They have lost the vast majority of their tight finals in the last few decades and been uncontested in the rest.

They way he went on and so many others, it was as if Tyrone had went and used the delay to use voodoo on the Kerry team.

If Kerry were as good as they were made out to be, they should have beaten Tyrone well, a Tyrone that had significant issues in the run up to the game, plenty of testimony from the players and management attesting to that.
04,06 beat Mayo
07, 09 beat Cork
In 20 years they only won one all Ireland against a "credible" team - Donegal in 2014

He won't be missed. But I'm sure he will be replaced by a rte robot who doesn't gave his own opinion.

More than likely replaced by a female
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

Tbh some of his rambles were embarrassing. He had his time but it was a long time ago.

Time for some insightful analysis. RTÉ just couldn't have it with him there. I'm not convinced on o'rourke either (and definitely not cavanagh).

pbat

RTE have been completely sanitized, they had George Hook and Bret Pope in the rugby with Tom Mc Gurk chairing, Dumphy and Giles with Bill trying to keep them in order and Brolly, Spillane and O Rourke with Lyster.

They may have talked some crap at times but they were definitely entertainment value. Now bland PC brigade crap with Cantwell, Richie Sadlier and the likes reading pre wrote scripts and notes.

To be fair to the BBC GAA coverage Mark Sidebottom lets Oisin, Peter and Mickey Harte at it.

Why is he waiting for tomorrow's paper to reveal why?

Mandatory retirement from RTE/RTE contractors on age grounds?  I think he'll be 67 this year.

Good stuff, that means Joe Duffy is gone in January!

Sadly, no. Duffy is an independent contractor, rather than someone employed on an RTÉ contract. So is Tubridy, Ray D'Arcy, a few more.

Brolly was calling people's integrity into question and using the show as a vehicle for personal gripes. People didn't deserve what he came out with.

Spillane is outdated. Time for some real pundits.

Will Spillane's replacement have to be from Kerry ?

I wish they wouldn't get players based on their playing ability, their profile or the county they played for. Thought McGinley was very good yesterday.

Brendan Devenney is very good. So is Eamon Fitzmaurice. Loads of decent analysts on radio

Thankfully Pat got the hint. Cantwell, Cahill and O'Rourke  need to get the door too. Sky Sports analysis is way ahead.  Analysise the actual game and give a good insight to game. RTE is dominated by certain pundits pursuing their own agenda and throwing in a couple lazy stats.

Summed up by Saturday  Spillane made it about himself announcing he was retiring instead of talking about Tailteann Cup final.

About time. I'd say he was offered the chance to leave. I don't think I have anything good to say about his punditry.
Characteristics that come to mind :
Dated
Biased
Stole a living
Used irrelevant stats
Poor knowledge of weaker counties
Stereotyped counties
Lazy or no research
Lost control of emotions

Late to this but +1

Captain Scarlet

There is a lad on Twitter that shares old RTÉ shows and the odd Sunday Game clip pops up and Pat has been spouting the same shite for 20-odd years.

I never found him entertaining or clever and I can't honestly can't think of one lightbulb moment when he was saying what will happen. I'm from Kildare and we have no scoring forwards...we never have...even though there were times under Geezer when we had a few lads in the top scorers from play in the country. (that's just a pet gripe but shows sheer laziness)

There were no updates on ideas or attitudes and he seems like a sack to be honest. As I said the Mayo v Galway game summed him up...

Started off with Forest Gump box of chocolates...
Then went to Goldie Locks for Galway when they are good, etc
At half time got loads of names wrong and didn't analyse anything

A team can go from world beaters to absolute bums in the space of a half...

A big clear-out is needed!

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.
