Why is this in the WTF thread?

because the "leader of the free world" is gaslighting people in relation to inflation, either that or he's just plan dumb but I've seen similar from our neighbours over in London, but they're gaslighting people as well.

How is it gaslighting?

Is price gouging NOT taking place?

Has inflation NOT been steadily coming down, at least in the US?

Price gouging is taking place but the fact that inflation has dropped doesn't mean that items are getting cheaper, they won't, the only change is that the rate of increase is slowing, but it's still going up.

If anything gouging exacerbated inflation as companies put their arms in and increased their profits exponentially.

Hammer excess profits with taxation and that'll take the will out of companies to rip people off, but that's a bogey concept to the trickle down economics fanatics.

It's not Joe Biden's job to explain what the word inflation means. Surely most adults understand that central banks aim for a low, steady rate of inflation as a sign of a healthy economy? That prices are continually ticking up, even in the best of times?

And you yourself acknowledged that gouging made things way worse. Is that not what Biden was on about?

I'd love to know how inflation (even low) is a sign of a healthy economy?
It means that for your savings not to lose value you have to invest it, so you risk losing some of your capital, and then even if you do gain you pay capital gains tax on your investment gains that you had to invest.  All because you didn't want to lose purchasing power with your previously hard earned savings.
Think about that; the governments get tax revenues from the investment gains of people who have to invest not to lose ground.

People don't realise that inflation is a means by which purchasing power is taking away from people; how is that good?
Ideally the powers that be want the infaltion to be low enough so people generally don't notice it, but it doesn't change the fact of what inflation does.

* 35mph in a while 30mph zone (I wasn't, 110%, I was at 30mph well before entering the 30mph zone.

* 1st letter arrives, NO right of appeal, asking me to confirm it was me

* 2nd letter asking me confirm I'll pay fine / take speed awareness

* 3rd letter then to confirm amount (£60 + a wee £5 Offender Levy, whatever that is)

* payment only by cheque (who the fcuk has had a cheque book the last 20 years??) or postal order. Went and got a postal order, £8.30 fee for it.
The girl behind the counter @ the Post Office  asked me 'The Clerk of Petty Sessions?, we'll have another 50 of those today, and everyday.

So a nice wee total of £73.30 for going 30mph in a 30mph zone... 110% that speed gun was pointed a couple of hundred yards down the road.

3 x letters, postal order or cheque, the 'offence' happened early September.... Is it 2023 of 1973?!

Me.

So you paid  £60 fine.  Now what?  Do you have to take the speed awareness  course and/or got penalty points?

People get the wool pulled over their eyes regarding inflation. If it steadies out, there isn't really going to be any deflation back to the prices of 2 years ago. Has coal went back to normal yet?

Yes, but  the charts (and the music  industry in general), this last 20 odd years has  been absolutely diabolical .  11 year olds  buying/downloading  the latest X factor tripe usually hits no 1

Of course there won't be. Is there anyone who expects there will be?

Worse than that. It will probably be beaten by another sausage roll song.

There was a one in Ballymena court last year.  A defendant representing himself started speaking about how the calibration result recorded in the police officer's statement was outside the operating range by 0.1m.  The judge asked sure what difference would that make you were 15mph over the limit.  The defendant started to explain the maths to him and the Judge replied.  That's all well and good but why should I take your word for it.  The defendant responded well I run the company that holds the contract for calibrating all the speed guns for all the police forces in the UK so I kinda know what I am talking about.  I don't think I have ever seen the judge as lost for words
