No excuses now
True MR2, we've beaten Tyrone team in Ulster before, we can do it again. Positive vibes

What Tyrone team have Cargin beat before in Ulster EOC as a matter of interest? Probably a while is it since had an Antrim vs Tyrone in the senior ulster club? Incidentally,  did St Galls in their dominance of Antrim come up against and beat many Tyrone teams in Ulster?

It's the reason why the club championship is great,  it's because clubs in Antrim, Fermanagh, Down can beat teams from Tyrone, Derry, Armagh etc. Great leveller.

Know your on wind up obviously but very difficult to see Cargin beat Errigal, will be a massive step up from anyone they have played in Antrim this year. Plus with McGinley over Errigal, he will know Cargin inside out. Errigal by 7

I don't get this 'will know a team inside out'.

Every team plays the exact same way now.  The style is exactly the same.  You don't need to analyse the opposition nowadays. They, when out of possession, park the bus and put 15 men behind the ball.

The key is who scores the most when they get their shots away.  Look at last night, St. Eunan's should have won that game. They had far mre chances, but by rushing shots and poor decision making, they threw it away.

EC, on the otherhand, hung in there, battled away and took their couple of chances at the end very well. They made good decisions on the ball.

A lot of games nowadays boils down to taking chances in the last 10 mins when the pressure is on.

Good decision makers required!

You think? Errigal in first half missed around 5 scoreable points and a penalty, they should have been well ahead

Fancy Cargin to beat them.

Not a hope.  Errigal will beat Cargin I think by a good 5 points.  St Eunans would be more of a challenge than Cargin, certainly in the forward line department

What make you think 5 points?

I ask because I don't think they've beaten anyone by 5 points so far?
And Glen didn't even beat Cargin by 5 last year. Cargin had 14 men for a long time too.

I think Errigal will improve as the championship goes on.  Cargin I dont think have the firepower up front to really have an impact in Ulster, still heavily reliant on Tomás McCann.  Think that Aidan McCrory will cancel out Pat Shivers and I just dont see where Cargin pose a threat thereafter.  Think If Errigals forward line really gets motoring that the Cargin defence will struggle to maintain them if they aren't making any headway up front.

How far is Myler away? Hopefully see him back soon. Did he play much for Omagh this year?

GET RID OF THE PICK UP,  PUTING YOUR TOE UNDER THE BALL IN 2024. SHOULDN'T BE NECESSARY

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 20, 2024, 08:42:18 AMIn the grand  scheme of things the throw in has absolutely no bearing on the game

I wouldn't say that at all. Just off the top of my head,  Eoin Murchans goal in the AI final vs Kerry that time had a huge bearing on the game as just one example.

You what they should have got rid of,  the pick up.  What value does it add to the game?

On the 1 vs 1 throw in,  Connacht worked one well but it's a total advantage to the team facing the ball if you get me.  Aidan OShea just boxed the ball from the throw up, put his fist straight though it over to his player facing opposite him.  Thats a huge advantage vs the team whose other midfielder is behind them
Your never going to be able to generate the power to do that if your midfield partner is behind you if you get me

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 13, 2024, 06:12:31 PMCargin meeting possibly the Tyrone or Donegal champions is a decent draw, the Tyrone ones who put more effort into their league will be lucky to get past St Eunan's

Few weeks to clear up any injuries and prepare for Ulster

Hard to see Cargin beating any of the Donegal or Tyrone champions though.  They will be of much higher quality than anything in Antrim right now.

Cargin gonna Cargin, PG1 really put the bodies on the line tbf, lacked the firepower to really get over the line.  Thought Cargin where only in about 3rd gear today tbh, they were a bit flat,  they will be delighted with the win but if say disappointed with the performance.  Enjoyed the game despite it being a low scoring encounter

Quote from: clarshack on October 12, 2024, 07:36:18 PMIn hindsight it doesn't look like the Fianna ever properly recovered from the 2021 County Final mauling by Dromore. Since then only one championship win which was over a relegated Greencastle side.
Their youth in recent times haven't been playing in Grade 1 which would be a worry for them. In fact their U-16 team were in Grade 3 last season and ended up third best in that campaign.

What's the reasoning for this? You'd imagine Coalisland have a huge pick and wouldn't need to be in grade 3 at any level.
I believe Carrickmotlrw have over 400 kids in their primary school, you'd imagine Coalisland would have something similar?

Quote from: Spike on September 29, 2024, 08:28:23 PMYeah.   Unfortunately I paid In to watch that.  As soon as cargin got back to back points I said this is over.   You could see st bs legs and belief disappear.   The hard man act and 'hold me back' routines have got very old.  They were lucky to have 15 men on the pitch after some questionable cynical tackles.   I was expecting far more from them but they the simply don't appear to have the bottle to dig deep when it matters

And they never will. A gather up on and off the pitch.

Could that not be thrown at a lot of Belfast teams though? There is always a lot of interchange between clubs.
