Can you leave off the Boy Wonder and Bill Delaney or is there an era restriction on this? Or just going on who you've seen play?

Apologies off topic but saw a good question of picking the best county team but you can only have 1 representative from each club. Anyone want to give it a go?

Someone help me out.

Byron (Courtwood)

Roe (The Heath)
Kelly (St Josephs)
Lacey (Ballylinan)
Delaney (Stradbally)
Murphy (Graicuecullen)
Munnelly (Kilcruise)
Lawlor (Emo)
Predergast (Portlaoise)
Turley (O'Demposeys)
Kingston (Killeen)
Hughie (Portarlington)

1 - Best memory supporting the footballers - 2003 v Dublin, felt like we were hitting the big time.
2 - Favourite match - 2003 Leinster final v Kildare, we hit the big time. Whirlwind of emotions that day but finished in ecstasy.
3 - Favourite player pre 2000, post 2000 (for the older lads) - Pre - Hughie Post - Beano - I know Hughie played a roll in 03.
4 - Best score/favourite - Pauric Clancy's point v Dublin
5 - Best individual display in a match - Hughie v Derry league quarter-final 1997
6 - Match with best atmosphere - 03 v Kildare or 06 v Tyrone
7 - Most impressive victory - Meath in 04 or Kildare in 05 were 2 whippings we handed out
8 - Favourite county ground - A terrace is a terrace
9- Most disappointing memory ( you can rank them) Losing to Dublin in 05 when we were robbed. Losing to Mayo in 06 when we should have held out for an All Ireland semi final. Losing to 13man Kildare in 97.
10 - Worst refereeing decision against us - We're ignoring Aughrim? The push on Joe Higgins that gave Dublin a 45 to equalise in 05 or was it to win?

Overall we played some nice stuff, were set up well, team spirit looks good and they put everything into it. Can't ask for more than that.

From an Armagh visitor, I think Laois can take some pride in their team.

That reminds me of another thing I was going to say. We all know it at this stage but our support is pathetic. It was a nice evening for February, dry and not that cold, there's no excuse to be outnumbered by a county 2 and a half hours away. When Armagh were getting back in the game, the noise from the crowd was boosting them. As you say, Laois people should have pride in this team, they deserve our support.

Fantastic effort from all of them. Armagh were bad in the first half but they came out firing in the second. The intensity went up several notches and they were right back in the game. It was a serious test for the character of our younger players and they stood up to it. We got a few important scores and settled things down. Still early season games and a lot of work to be done but very encouraging. I thought Byrne had a very good debut. Timmons was great, don't know what we're going to do when he's gone. Midfield were good, O Carroll will be our main man, it's just a pity his conversion rate isn't higher. Corbett is very comfortable on the ball obviously, looked a bit suspect under the high ball that was sent in so further tests to come for him. Piggott is a tight marker, he does give the ball away a lot though. Murphy was quiet. Overall we played some nice stuff, were set up well, team spirit looks good and they put everything into it. Can't ask for more than that.

I had actually heard one or two rumblings that certain people weren't happy with his performance. To those people I would say cop yourselves on and take a long hard look at what we have available to us.

It reminds me of when McNulty was ran out of town. There were those who thought we were better than getting to All Ireland quarter finals and playing Division 1 and Division 2 football. As we fell down to division 4, those people got their answer.

The Laois job shouldn't be an internship for inexperienced managers. They'll have to have done something to show they are capable of progressing things.

I agree with Hesh, Meath were woeful. Maybe we made them look bad but I thought we weren't at our best either. We missed a lot of chances and still won by 9. Whelan had an off day, Barry missed a few, I agree with the lads picked out by Hesh also. Owens looked dangerous when he came on. The ball into big Dan was again hit and miss. Dublin have walked their side of the draw so the final against them will obviously be a step up, probably a few steps up but that will tell us more about these lads. First final at this level since 09 so it's all very encouraging.

Great win. Massive performance and effort by them all. Give Tipperary a go and see what happens but as others have said, building on this is where the focus should lie.

I agree with those talking about development, that's the key. What what the difference between us and Cork? They had players with power and pace who could take their men on and kick off both feet. Better teams than Cork have more players with this ability. We had Kingston who could do this and O'Carroll also has it but his shooting is very inconsistent. Players like Scully take on their men but he doesn't have the kicking ability, O'Loughlin can beat his man but doesn't have the pace to burst away. The top teams have the speed and power on every line. That's why we have struggled and will struggle against teams like this. Tyrone, Dublin, Donegal etc. We're not the only ones, of course, not many will be able to compete against that level of opposition and I'd say Cork will struggle as well. So identifying youngsters at an early age who show signs of potential in this regard is important and then get them down to the centre of excellence.
That's all for the future anyway, we can only work with what we have and Sugrue has to be commended for the job he has done. The way he sets up the team also has to be commended I suppose, they give it a go, they push up and take everyone on man v man. This has provided results against teams from division 3 and 4 and brought us up to division 2 and given us runs into the last 12 in the last 2 championships. Unfortunately, when we have come up against counties from division 1 and 2, we have been beaten by 18 points against Dublin, 11 points against Meath, 14 points against Cork and the only single digit defeat was to Monaghan where we lost by 5.
People have talked about our tackling needing to improve but do we also need to tighten things up? Is going 15 v 15 wise against these teams? We learned a lot more playing against Cork than we did the week before against Offaly. That's why it was so important to get up to division 2. We can test ourselves against better teams and I'm sure Sugrue has plenty of ideas on how to deal with the step up. A disappointing end to a good season where we've gained a few players who've shown they can step up and hopefully the u20's go well tomorrow night and we get a few more involved next year.

Seriously "Underdogs" this game is 50/50, same lads would be saying it's 50/50 against Roscommon when they would be easy favs. Cork are shambolic and okay there may be enough talent to trouble Laois, but no way is this anything but 50/50.  In the same way as Offaly, Cork will try to hit Laois in the first half but I can't see them staying with us.  We are just in a better place.  On the minus side I would think we will struggle in Super 8's and I genuinely can't make up mind is this a good thing long term or a bad thing ala Kildare this season.

How much have you put on at 2/1? Great odds on Laois if you believe what you posted.

I think we'll find it tough but we can beat Cork. It will take a day where we actually take a high percentage of our chances and especially goals. We'll have to tighten up at the back and give a bit more protection, I'm sure there's a plan for this. Whatever happens, I hope a big crowd goes down to support them. They're giving their all and they deserve our backing.

In response nameless, the first ball in was spot on against a much smaller marker and should have been a goal, they immediately put their centre forward back in front of him and we persisted with the bombs with no return. A better ball in led to catch and the lay off for the goal. We struggled in the second half for long periods and ended up sending in awful ball, rob kearney wouldn't have caught them. I don't know if the game plan is to tell him not to leave the edge of the square but there was little movement for a different ball. A re-think in extra time saw dan bought to midfield for the throw in and he ended the half with a lovely finish for the goal again after a better ball in. There sweeper went out as they were chasing the game and in the second period he made hay with two points.

He is a massive weapon to have at this age group. The right ball in and it's a score but the forwards have to pushing up for the breaks or lay offs. The scores gave the crowd a great lift. Problems are sending in bombs and expecting a return plus a lack of movement which at times cuts off space for the other two. A flick down or a flick on wasn't really tried which would have been easier at times. It was noticeable that Tyrell is excellent at this on kick outs and wouldn't be a bad option if needed.

Good stuff on the hop. I think what you said about at this age group is the key point. It may work occasionally at this age group, it needs a great ball though and you can waste lots of possession with this tactic. But what is the main aim of this age group? To develop senior inter county players I would have thought? Long gone are the days of the Bomber Liston and although Donaghy had some great days, he was the best in the business at it and he was shut out by organised defences. Is big Dan in that category of player? Maybe he is but like you say, there has to be some movement as well, a little bit of unpredictability.

Couldn't make the game last night, looking at the scoring it seemed that things went better for big Dan but was it similar to last week? We wasted more than we got from the long ball tactic? Disappointed to hear our defence was opened up easily. They looked tight enough in the full back line last week. Maybe Kildare were actually quite poor. Hard to tell. Players at this age can be great one week and average the next. Meath will be a step up, the Offaly team they beat were highly rated.

Great to get the win and get back into round 4. I thought Dillon had a very good game, especially second half. O'Loughlin started very well, Lillis had one of his best games. Scully's direct running causes all sorts of problems and Paul Kingston had a great game. Donie showed some moments of absolute class, how he was left 1 v 1 in this day and age is beyond belief. That was the way it was for both sides though. There was so much space for the inside forwards. It's clear we need to tighten up but having Timmons and Begley there would make such a difference.
Cork, Galway or Cavan next, we'd be underdogs against any of them obviously. We still have so much to improve on, defensively as already noted, the silly turnovers and again the wasted chances in front of goal. It'd be great to have Begley back for next week and I think Evan has to start. Fair play to Ross, great servant and did alright yesterday but with the ball he got, I think O'Carroll would have destroyed Offaly.

I'm very worried about this game. There's an air of complacency around the county and sometimes that can seep into the players' psyche. People are already eyeing up who we will get in the 4th round. Hopefully, the squad haven't been listening too much to this. Offaly should have beaten Meath in Meath. Yes, they've had 2 easy games leading into this but their confidence is growing and they'll be up for this. If we're not at the right intensity level for this we will lose.
