I have always enjoyed that interview on Parkinson, even some 35 years later.
He was a Black Muslim when he was interviewed by Parkinson. His views were a constant.
What part of his life did he become, what you refer to as racist, bitter and twisted?
No prizes for the depth of thought that went into that dope allegory
Why do call him a loser in life? because he lost his health? are you for real?
Quote from: stew on September 02, 2009, 07:46:09 PMAli was consistant with his views on White America since he was a challenger for the heavyweight crown. He was a Black Muslim before he fought Liston, he was a Black muslim when refused the draft.
It was hard not to admire his courage on several fronts, the fact he held white America accountable for the discrimination black Americans lived with from day to day and two, his refusal to go to war to fight for a cause he didnt believe in, he went to jail rather than violate his principles and these would have been some of his peak years in the ring.
That said he did become a bitter, twisted individual and as pog says did in fact become a racist, a hater and he did a lot of damage to his legacy with his extremist views.

Quotehe is a sad figure nowadays, sometimes I wonder just who the dope was in rope a dope. Ali might have gotten over in the ring during the rope a dope bouts but in life he was the biggest loser of them all, he lost his health and that is a shame.
No prizes for the depth of thought that went into that dope allegory
