Don't know. I think Sean would have been on the Derry 1958 team.
I don't think hes any relation to Eugene, Sean was a Ballymaguigan man originally and  would have been in around the derry team in the 50s but dont think he featured in the 58 all Ireland , ( may have been on the panel)

Former Liverpool Captain Tommy Smith.
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

I remember working in S. Wales & Swansea drew Spurs in the League Cup in 1978. Managed to get a ticket. Osvaldo Ardiles & Villa had just arrived with Spurs, after winning the World Cup with Argentina. Ardiles got the ball in the centre circle, straight from kick off. Smith deliberately clattered into him & put Ardiles clean up in the air & i don't  think he even got a card for it! In those days, people like Tommy could "let him know you're there" & get away with it.

Miguel Delaney didn't have much time for him today.

Delaney was dead right, absolute racist, being a great footballer doesn't absolve you of that
Excuse me for talking while you're trying to interrupt me

Tommy Smith. His treatment of Howard Gayle is not the stuff of legend.

The "coloured people" whom Smith considered his friends had started to "think like the white man," Smith said back then. The "white n****r" nickname Smith had for Gayle was "a compliment" - bestowed on him because Gayle had shown he would stand up to him.

He was at the right club then. 30 years on they defended the racist Suarez too.
