Laois / Laois U-21 Championship 2017
October 20, 2017, 07:20:20 PM
Seeing as this is the very last under 21 championship to ever be played in Laois I thought it would be fitting to start a thread covering the games.
I was looking for fixtures for the weekend and came across this on the Laois Official Website.
They have Graiguecullen down to play twice tomorrow afternoon, surely this is a mistake unless they have two teams in the competition.. ??

Laois / 2017 Bord Na Móna O'Byrne Cup
November 28, 2016, 12:54:58 AM
Fixtures Released For 2017 Bord Na Móna O'Byrne Cup
23 Nov 2016

ANDY McEntee's first game in charge of Meath football will be a home clash with Wicklow in the Bord na Móna O'Byrne Cup on January 8. The dates and pairings for the 2017 Bord na Móna Leinster GAA Series were agreed last night with all eyes on the new managers who will take up the reins across Leinster GAA in the New Year.

Defending O'Byrne Cup champions Meath are in a tough group with Wicklow, Laois and students DIT as McEntee embarks on a new era following the departure of Mick O'Dowd at the end of last season. Laois, of course, also have a new manager for 2017 with Peter Creedon at the helm.

Meanwhile, All-Ireland and Leinster champions Dublin have been pitted against DCU, Wexford and UCD with Jim Gavin expected to feature an experimental selection as he again loses a large chunk of players to Third Level teams.

Dublin's clash away against Wexford on January 15 will see them renew rivalry with Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney who was last in action against the Dubs while he was manager of Meath in 2011 and 2012. It is also a potential forerunner of events later next summer with Dublin drawn to play either Carlow or Wexford in a Leinster SFC quarter final in Portlaoise or Wexford next June.

Longford were the only team to inflict a competitive defeat on Dublin in 2016, toppling them in the Bord na Móna O'Byrne Cup semi-finals, and they are grouped with Kildare, Offaly and IT Carlow in another testing selection. Westmeath, Louth, Carlow and Maynooth University make up the fourth competitive group.

The competition begins on Sunday, January 8, 2017 with another round played under lights on Wednesday night with the final round the following Sunday.
It will represent the first time in 2017 that inter county players get to grips with the introduction of the Mark in Gaelic football while it has also been decided that there will be no limit on the number of substitutions allowed.

Leinster GAA is delighted to announce an agreement with Bord na Móna to extend their sponsorship of the Leinster GAA Series for a further three years up until after the 2019 competition.

Laois / Leinster Senior Football Championship 2017
November 18, 2016, 01:47:15 AM
O' Moore Park must have got bigger since last year as it was said it wouldn't be big enough to accommodate all the Dublin supporters. This year it is deemed big enough because if Carlow beat Wexford they will play Dublin in O'Moore Park.....   ::)

REIGNING Leinster senior football champions Dublin will open the defence of the Delaney Cup at a provincial venue in 2017.
Either O'Moore Park or Innovate Wexford Park will be the setting when the Dubs begin a quest to win a record breaking seventh Leinster title in a row.
Wexford and Carlow meet in a first round tie at Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday May 21 for the right to face Dublin in a quarter final, which will take place on Saturday or Sunday, 3rd or 4th June.
If Wexford win, they will have the added incentive of entertaining the Dubs at home in Wexford Park. Should Carlow triumph, the game will take place at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise because the capacity of Netwatch Cullen Park would be insufficient.
Last June the Dubs played a Leinster SFC tie outside of Croke Park for the first time in 10 years when they took on Laois in Kilkenny's Nowlan Park.
A meeting of Comhairle Laighean last night agreed to keep Jim Gavin's Dubs 'on the road' for their opening fixture of the 2017 campaign.
The potential for concerts taking place at Croke Park has been another factor in deliberating on where matches will be played next summer.
Leinster Senior Hurling Championship games will commence on Sunday, 23rd April with the first series of matches in the round robin section, which next year involves Laois, Westmeath, Meath and Kerry.
Kilkenny will begin the defence of the Bob O'Keeffe Cup in a semi-final tie versus Wexford or one of the qualifiers from the round-robin group.
The Leinster senior hurling final has been confirmed for Sunday, July 2 and the senior football decider has been fixed for Sunday, July 16 at Croke Park.

Leinster Minor Football League 2016

The 'mark' will be one of three experimental rules to be trialled in the Leinster minor football league, which gets underway next month.

A maximum of three consecutive hand-passes will be permitted while there will be no back-passing to goalkeepers allowed. The competition is used by minor managers in the province to finalise their squads and to prepare for the championship.

The rules are being trialled to encourage high-fielding and to curb hand-passing.
