Edit 7 October Update:

Kerry's championship on a tight enough schedule...

Round One w/e 22nd Sept - 16 teams (Feale Rangers eliminated in prelim round)
Round Two w/e 29th Sept - 4 teams eliminated (Austin Stacks*, Mid Kerry, Kenmare District, Rathmore)

Round Three w/e 6th Oct - 4 teams eliminated (Kerins O'Rahilly's, Shannon Rangers, West Kerry)
Final Round Three game w/e 13th Oct (postponed due to bereavement)

Quarter Finals w/e 20th Oct - 4 teams eliminated
Semi Finals w/e 27th Oct

Rest Week w/e 3rd November
County Final penciled in for 10th November

Munster Club semi-final 17th November.

If the County Final has not been played, the last club team standing will represent Kerry in Munster.  Not sure what happens if two club teams in final...draw out of the hat, I suppose?

*If the County Champions are a divisional team, the winners of the Senior Club (held in April/May) will represent Kerry...that would be Austin Stacks.

Hard to see past Templenoe and Na Gaeil for Intermediate and Junior All-Irelands tbh.
Templenoe have their 4 county stars and would be playing senior championship in any other county.
Na Gaeil have Jack Barry and Diarmuid O'Connor to call on as well.
Both teams played in Division 1 this year too.
Not really a level playing field is it?

Sure going by that logic in Mayo Kiltimagh would fly the intermediate and Davitts shuffle off the senior table. Kiltimagh in Division 1 and Davitts in Division 3. But Davitts reached the senior quarter final and Kiltimagh only got to the intermediate quarter finals too.

Loughmore are out of Tipp, Clonoulty beat them at the weekend. Eight left in it, and it's wide open as to who'll win.

With regard to the Kerry Senior Football Championship, Dr. Crokes got a goal late in extra time to force a draw with South Kerry in the semi final.  The replay will be on next Sunday, 3 November in Killarney with result on the day demanded.

East Kerry await the winners in the final, scheduled for 10 November, with the Munster Club semi final on 17 November.

If Dr. Crokes do not win the County Championship, Kerry will be represented by Austin Stacks in Munster.  However, if the Kerry championship is not finished (another draw in the final and no postponement of the Munster game) and Dr. Crokes are still in it, then Dr. Crokes will represent Kerry in Munster.

By the way, Rathmore were relegated to intermediate status for 2020 when they lost to Kilcummin on Saturday.  The relegation final consists of the bottom team of each group in the senior club group stage played in April, unless the team makes it to the county final.

The county league has yet to conclude, but Rathmore will finish top of Division 1.  Intermediate champions Templenoe and junior champions Na Gaeil were both relegated from Division 1 this year.

County league position/division has no bearing on championship status in Kerry, in case anyone hasn't figured that out.

Out of interest would a team like Austin Stacks still be training in the hope of this eventuality?

Out of interest, do East and South Kerry have their own specially designed jersey? Or do they just wear one of the clubs jersies from that jurisdiction?

Where do they play home games?

The respective Boards provide jerseys...South Kerry wear green with a gold band across the front and East Kerry wear red and white.  East Kerry wore black when both teams had to change in the recent county championship win over Dingle - I'm not aware of any club that wears black in East Kerry.

South Kerry play all their home games in Caherciveen, while East Kerry switch among clubs, especially for U21 and minor, with Fossa being used more than most others as far as I can see.

It seems 2020 will see Kenmare Shamrocks, Tuosist and Kilgarvan play in the East Kerry championship as Kenmare District will not run competitions.

Templenoe will join the South Kerry championship.

Kenmare District will field in the 2020 Senior Football championship, but if intermediate club champions Templenoe opt for senior club status, it will leave only Tuosist and Kilgarvan for the District team.

Forgot about Tuosist. Had it in my head that there were only 3 teams in the district as opposed to 4. Are Kenmare District around a while, or has there ever been a situation where they've 2 of the 4 teams in senior championship before?

Kenmare Shamrocks turned senior in 2017 for the first time.  Prior to that the name "Kenmare" in the county championship referred to the district team.

Templenoe have never been senior.

It will be interesting to see how Templenoe get on next year - numbers are falling again and having 4 players on the county panel meant conceding at least one county league division 1 game this year.

Templenoe has a population of only a couple of hundred and it's an incredible achievement to have 4 players on the Kerry team for such a small 'village'. (* there isn't even a village there really).
They've made their way up to Senior from Novice (a.k.a Junior B) in just 6 years.
I don't know how you think they've an unfair advantage? They would have had to make their way up from Junior B to Senior in any other county as well.
Unfortunately it's almost inevitable they'll make their way back to junior B after the current batch is gone as there's only about 3 players on average in the u12, u14, u16 and minor age groups as not only is the population small but it's also an old population.

Questions on Kerry.
Is there much atmosphere at these games? Do people fly the colours and wear the jerseys of the divisional sides? Or do they just cheer on their own men? If these clubs are so small, how/why have they not amalgamated properly? Clubs in Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Derry etc have fallen by the wayside in recent years, proper small clubs that can barely sustain 15 players never mind a handful of county players. How does a team like Templenoe "opt" for senior status? Surely as intermediate champions they shouldn't have any choice?

Atmosphere is decent  - a lot of neutrals attend county championship games though and things wouldn't be as hectic as a club team that hadn't been to a final in ages.  For example, when Austin Stacks made a run a few years ago, their kids provided great support with flags and jerseys by all - a divisional side would never have that sort of support.

Divisional sides have become more of a team recently - the local club needle between players is gone now.  This is mainly due to the fact that most of the players learned their football in schools and form friendships that transcend their respective clubs.  The better players would have played together on regional development squads from U14 onward as well.  St. Brendan's Killarney, PCD in Dingle, Tralee CBS and Colaiste Sceilig in Caherciveen are the big schools of their respective regions and county board coaches concentrate on the schools, coaching the coaches as much as the students.

Not many clubs have actually folded over the years...I can only recall Derrynane combining full time with Sneem over the last two decades or so.  Minor teams, especially in South Kerry, may have three or four clubs together at this stage due to low numbers.  Can't ever remember the Foilmore area being separate from St. Michael's-Foilmore, for example.

I presume Templenoe will take senior status in 2020, but as far as I know, they have not made any announcement thus far.  They are a worry to all...they could be back in division 5 relatively quickly if numbers don't improve.  They will be in division 2 for 2020 anyway and may look decent in senior club games when the county man are available...but their league games might tell a very different story.

Hope that helps your good questions...

Kerry Senior Football Championship update:

Final set for 10 Nov  East Kerry v Dr. Crokes in Tralee, after Dr. Crokes beat South Kerry in a semi-final replay today by 1-14 to 1-8.

If East Kerry win, Austin Stacks will go forward to Munster as winners of the Senior Club title.

If Dr. Crokes win, Dr. Crokes will go forward to Munster as county champions.

If its a draw, or if the county final is postponed, Dr. Crokes will go forward to Munster as the last club team standing in an unfinished county championship, unless postponements are granted for the Munster semi-final.

Edit:  Kerry County Final result...East Kerry 2-14 Dr. Crokes 1-7, so Austin Stacks represent Kerry in Munster.

What type of preparation will Austin Stacks have done for next Sundays game. Will certainly be fresher than Nemo anyway

Austin Stacks played their last league game on Saturday (9 Nov), so they might be fresh enough.

Mind you, it was in Caherciveen against already relegated St. Mary's...Stacks ran out winners by 4-15 to 1-6, so it mightn't have helped much.

Stacks' last game in the county championship was on 29 September, a 3-13 to 3-7 loss to eventual champions East Kerry.

AZ, you might know this. Is there differing rules from Munster and Leinster Councils regarding home advantage for club games? Surely Ferbane for instance could host a game, given that it, from what I've seen in pictures and heard from others held a massive ladies game the other day. Obviously the LGFA are a different organisation, but still?

I note that Bracknagh played their game in Gracefield, while Shannonbridge played their two Leinster games to date in the Faithful Fields. Yerselves (Ferbane) obviously played in OCP, but that's a given, regarding senior champions init? Or init not?🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

That templenoe club in intermediate look to have four Kerry starters? (Two Spillaned, tadhg Morley and gavin Crowley if it is the right Crowley?)

Look ridiculously strong for this level. The Eire og team they beat had Goulding and Sheehan in it. (A b Hurley too but I don't think it is the same one?).

I suspect an easy ai again for the Kerry team.

Brian Hurley plays for Castlehaven. Eire Og also had Ronan O'Toole  who plays midfield for Cork and 2 lads on Cork under 20s. Breckans are a decent side but Templenoe will still win handy enough. Na Gael and Templenoe have All Irelands wrapped up, no one will get close to them.

You would think Kerry would sort out their senior. I don't know how they expect anything from teams that win months ago and looking and East Kerry and hearing they have a few more county boys available next year for them it would seem it's likely for a while that a divisional side will win again so the club who won months ago, if they don't get to the final against the divisional team, will have to stay prepared.

Cork seem to have reorganised their football Championships from next year.
12 Premier Senior Clubs
12 Senior "A"
12 Premier Intermediate
12 Intermediate "A"
The Premier will be in 3 groups of 4 with top team in each going to the Semis. The 4th place going to the winners of a separate competition between Divisional teams.
Ball Hopper might be able to give us the full details.

Templenoe definitely favourites but the Munster winners play Oughterard in the semis and Oughterard are a good outfit. I've seen them a few times this year. Will be no pushovers.
