Syd, you should know by now that Benitez only signs players who put the team first and are grafters i.e Crouch who I believe ended up with the most assistes this season.

Benitez will pick the right players, don't expect a team of super individuals, he has his layou in his mind and he will follow it.

I seriously suggest that everyone reads A season on the Brink by Guillem Baluage(?). A great insight into Rafa's thinking.

There are plenty of world class players who work for the team, i think we need to get away from the calibre of player we have been getting in last few years if we want to win league, Pennant, Gonzalez etc.I have read "A Season On The Brink", a great read and boy is he thorough!

Ferguson backs Milan to beat Reds

Milan's semi-final victory over United impressed Ferguson
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Liverpool have no chance of beating AC Milan in the Champions League final on 23 May.
Milan beat United in the semi-finals to set up a repeat of the 2005 final, which Liverpool won on penalties.

Ferguson told the Sun: "I'd bet for sure that Milan will win the Champions League. I'm absolutely certain of it.

"I told their manager Carlo Ancelotti at the end of our semi-final that there is no way he cannot win it now."

Ferguson plans to toast Milan's victory with a bottle of wine given to him by Ancelotti after his side had lost in Italy.

I'm still trying to analyse the factors involved but the truth remains we faced one of the best performances in the history of AC Milan

Sir Alex Ferguson

"Carlo gave me a magnificent bottle of wine," Ferguson added. "But I immediately told him I would only drink his wine once I see him lifting the Champions Cup."

The United boss admits his team were outclassed in the second leg of their semi-final, which Milan won 3-0.

But Ferguson believes his side were tired from their efforts in the Premiership the previous weekend, which helped United regain the title for the first time since 2003.

"Milan's second-leg victory over us was stupendous, fantastic and extraordinary," Ferguson said.

"But I know we paid a high price for the Premiership fightback which we needed at Everton to turn a 2-0 scoreline into a 4-2 victory.

"Last week, Milan were fresher and better prepared tactically and physically.

"I'm still trying to analyse the factors involved. But the truth remains we faced one of the best performances in the history of AC Milan."

Well we have a better chance than some teams........Fergie needs to get over their disastrous performance last week and leave it the people involved.

We need world-class players - Pedersen is not that

I think Pedersen is a decent player and has had a great season at Blackburn, anythime i have seen him play he's impressed me

"A decent player"....high praise indeed. Pedersen is exactly the kind of player we need to avoid, we have had too many "decent"players over the last few years. We need players who are world class, Pedersen is not.

Agreed their scouting is excellent, they have bought consistently great prospects from all angles of the globe.
But it has cost them an awful lot of money, Reyes at 16 million, Walcott 12 million, Rosicky 6 million, Denilson 3.5 million, Diaby 2 million and plenty of others.
I know they have been successful, by and large, except Reyes, but it annoys me when people rave about the Gunners developing their own talent.
It was still the big two, United and Liverpool, who have established youth set ups across this country as well, who reached the FA Youth Cup final

The players Arsenal have bought though have been bought with the idea of them becoming 1st team players sooner rather than later. I dont know if you could say that about the players on Liverpool & Uniteds youth teams, historically you would be lucky to get 2 or 3 that become 1st team regulars, we will not know for a year or two but teams the size of Liverpool & United will always be bidding at the top end of the transfer market thus reducing even further the chances of these young players making it.

This Arsenal youth set up is a myth!
They have excellent young players but most of them have been brought in for millions of pounds!

They seem to have the best scouting network though.

My mate who is a big United fan was telling me Fergie was being interviewed yesterday after the Chelsea result and his main sentiment was "i wish we were going to Athens".......

Well Fergie is quoted in today's IN as saying that Man Utd are now focusing more on the domestic competitions, as the they come up against in England are generally much better and the League is much more competitive than Europe.

If the Premiership is more competitive than CL why have they not won, by your rationale an easier competition, more than once in Fergies tenure.

To be fair...it'll be embarrassing if you lose at this stage!!

Another season of nothingness! It'll be sooooo funny!

CHAMPIONS!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Since Benitez has arrived there has not been a season of "nothingness" yet. Liverpool have a great record in European Finals (unlike Fergie in Semis), we beat a better Milan team 2 yrs ago with a worse Liverpool team (Traore,Smicer et al)

UTD are now 21 points ahead of the scousers, after playing a game less. That's remarkable!!  ;D

"WE WON THE LEAGUE IN THE COUNCIL HOUSE!!!"   :P

I predict a draw is the best result Chelski will get tomorrow. Fergie to play his reserves against them on Weds night...it'll be great for the likes of Dong, Eagles & Richardson to get a standing ovation from Terry, Lampard & Drogba! Class!

We are in our 2nd Champions League final in 3 years, a great achievement i think you will agree........

Exposed - southderryman is Jonaton Ross. :D
This is actually true. Brian Mc Ivor, manager of the national football champions Donegal has made a statement,
"Thus (This) us (is) a dusgrace (disgrace), whatdya call it (hesitation), thut (that) we huve (have) bun (been) left out un (on) a, whatdya call it (hesitation) lumb (limb). We huve (have) no provincial, whatdya call it (hesitation) chumpionshup (championship) to whatdya call it (hesitation) play un (in) and cyant (can't) whatdya call it (hesitation) progress to tha (the) whatdya call it (hesitation) Ull (All) Irelan (Ireland). Ut's (It's) not fair!!!

:D   :D    :D  I think Mc Ivor is hilarious, i didnt think anyone had picked up on his habit of saying "whatdya call it" !! Maybe he needs to go to media training a la Steve McClaren to make him more "smooth" !
