Yeah that was the incident, I remember reading something at the time of the verdict (cant find the article now) but when one of the police men was shown the video. Which obviously showed he was the aggressor, he then tried to change his statement to say that the lad had called him an orange b**tard or something similar which had provoked him, judge then tore him to pieces. Seems that justice has been done and the police officer should rightly lose his job.

A NUMBER of Omagh police officers could face criminal proceedings after the findings of an independent investigation by the Police Ombudsman's Office was presented to the Public Prosecution Service.

The investigation was sparked by a controversial incident in the John Street area of Omagh on December 10 2012.

Two Omagh men were charged following the early morning incident, which sparked debate over police tactics after it was captured on video and spread online using social media.

Leo McCullagh (24) of Lambrook Drive and Stephen Murphy (19) of Lammy Drive in Omagh, were charged with a number of offences including assaulting police and disorderly behaviour after police became involved with a group of high-spirited men outside a John Street takeaway.

In March, the Ulster Herald revealed how all charges were dismissed by a local judge after the defence team utilised CCTV footage to largely undermine the claims of a number of police officers made during a Magistrates' Court hearing on February 26. Both men have now initiating civil proceedings against the PSNI.

Constable Sheldon Irvine-Monteith was accused during the February court contest of being "the aggressor" by the defence, after the footage, which captured the entire fracas, appeared to show him grab and push Mr McCullagh in three motions up against a car.

The 24-year-old is shown throwing his hand out at the officer in a sharp pushing action, to which Constable Irvine-Monteith responded with a punch to the head, sending the Omagh man sprawling into the crowd.

The police constable claimed he was acting to clear the road to allow traffic to safely pass.

Chief Constable Matt Baggott asked the Police Ombudsman's Office to conduct an independent investigation into the actions of his officers following the dismissal of the case.

CRIMINAL

Last week the monitoring body told the Tyrone Herald that it had now forwarded its findings onto the PPS. A spokesperson said that while the majority of its investigations result in recommendations to the disciplinary branch of the PSNI, "more serious" and potentially criminal incidents are sent to the PPS.

"We have now completed those enquiries and, in line with normal procedure, have submitted a file to the PPS for their consideration."

It's unclear at this point how many police officers face potential prosecution.

Would this have happened a number of years ago? Personally cant imagine so, very glad that justice is being done here. Incidents like this give me a little faith, that maybe the PSNI is moving in the right direction finally.

What Trap won in the past if irrelevant, he earns 2million a year with Ireland. Not many International Managers are on that sort of money. Why wouldn't we expect better management. Hopefully Ireland get a win tomorrow

What planet are you on? what kind of better management do you want. Trap gets results that's the bottom line. Soccer is a result driven business. Would you prefer to have a manager who looks after his players well and never falls out with anyone i.e staunton and kerr. Or a manager who gets us punching above our weight, qualifies for tournaments and wins games with an average enough bunch of players? I think its a no bainer.

Getting to the Euro's was a large slice of luck, we avoided Portugal and other big names  getting Estonia in the play offs, so don't kid yourself. Russia destroyed Ireland in Dublin and in Moscow , only for Given and Dunne. I'm just saying it as it is.

Im really getting sick of this anti trapattoni bulls*it. If you look at the cold hard facts, the results he has given us are fantastic. Euros aside where came came up against three excellent teams. He has named a very strong team in my opinion for the next game (sammon aside). If we win we will still be in a strong position to qualify. Trappatoni gets so much abuse from the newspapers and social media, but he has done nothing but delivery results, and i have great faith he will continue to do so against the mighty Austrians. Viva la Trapp

Do you not think he bringS it on himself, with the way he communicates with players in the Squad. More or less running down James McCarthy last week, saying he wasn't a creative player and more of a work horse, sending a text to Doyle last week, a player who has been in the squad 7 years deserved a phone call. Endless stuff, he has done a great job getting the results but its more or a mini miracle as he has fallen out with far too many players.

Jesus Rodney they are multi-millionaire international footballers why do you care so much about their apparent mistreatment, they are getting paid enough they should be able to handle it. Kevin Doyle has scored 1 goal in 16 appearances that is pathetic. People were going on like its an outrage hes wasn't on the squad. He is in horrible form, and will be playing league 1 football next year. Why should trap change the ways he manages his players. He is one of the most successful decorated football managers of all time. Do you really think he cares what the Irish media think of his player management techniques? The squad still obviously want to play for him and he has their full backing. Mcclean didn't kick a ball at the euros you say, there is a good reason for that, he was inexperienced and highly overated by the irish media. In fairness the errigal contingent were all very poor on saturday. Mc crory skint for every ball, mc ginley pulled out of two challenges and generally just ran about the place aimlessly. Harte was also very quiet again, is he just not allowed to be subbed?

Personally think that UCD/DCU game is a 50/50 game, looking at UCD's team sheet they seem to have a stronger team on paper than DCU more established county players anyway. Would to see DCU beat, just because of that bollix Niall Moyna. He has the best resources available to him and he is never finished giving out about something, doesn't seem to be in it for the love of the GAA at all. Would love to see St.Marys do it!

Start of the 2013 GAA season this weekend with all the preseason competitions. In my experience this is where the most money can be made from the bookies due to a variety of reasons. Overhaul of players and managers, teams testing out new players and systems, difference between teams training extremely hard early on and weak/strong college teams. Good information on teams can lead to an advantage over the bookies. For example Tyrone are using a full squad for the Mc Kenna cup and have been training flat out, they also i hear are planning to play their strongest team and mickey harte has stated his desire that they must win the competition. With Donegal in dubai and down as well as derry naming weak squads surely tyrone are a bog at 9/4 for the mc kenna cup. Any other information on teams and fixtures wold be appreciated

Its true, also missing turlough gallagher. Very disappointing end for this team in youth football. They have delivered so much success and happy days for Omagh St.Endas over the last decade. Hopefully they can move on and deliver some more happy days for the seniors in years to come.
