General discussion / Aptitude Tests
May 21, 2013, 02:21:56 PM
Spatial Reasoning - Guidance on the test

Verbal Analysis - Reading a passage/paragraph and then asked questions on it

Objects and Diagrams - look at the 4 following objects, one of them is different. Which one is it (a shape rotated in different directions)

The technical question at the bottom is fine and I'd be comfortable with that but the other questions from a paragraph and having to change words that mean the same...that sh1t does my head in...plus 3mins to answer the fecking things

Anyway if any of you guys out there actually do any of this or are experienced in these type of aptitude tests i would appreciate any help you could throw my way...big job riding on it

General discussion / How's your Lawn
March 18, 2012, 11:39:24 PM
Guys i'd appreciate if any of you out there know anything about the problem i'm having with my lawn...

I noticed over the last month or so my lawn getting very bare, i'm in this house about 5 years now and always had a decent lawn with lush grass. Today i noticed hundreds of worms on my footpath (brown worms but only about 30mm to 40mm in length and much smaller than the normal garden worm) i then moved the bins from the wall only to find hundreds more of the bastids, its obvious they're some type of pest worm that have been eating my grass but if you could give some advice of how to treat the lawn and kill the feckers as well as recover whats left of my grass...

General discussion / Battle Field 3
February 09, 2012, 11:06:55 PM
Guys, my nephew got Battle Field 3 game for the x-box (live) and the problem is the account he has been using for a year or two has him registered as 13 (which is correct) so they will not let him play Battle Field 3 on line as they say he's to young (which is true) but his mother allows him to play it and he wants to know if some of you guys know a way around this???

I'm not into all this gaming nor have i played on-line before so I'm no use to him, i did suggest he create another new account and let on he was 16 but the nephew said for all the rest of his gaming he'd lose all his data from his other account...

Can anyone help out?

General discussion / Once Bitten Twice Shy
October 06, 2011, 01:30:30 PM
Folks this a serious question and there will be some benefit for me with the serious replies...

If you have had a cafe/restaurant in your vicinity for years and it was very good but over the last 4-5 years their standards slipped and got worse every year till a point where you wouldn't go back to it. Now if that establishment was taken over by another family member and focused on nothing but the quality of the food to boost it back up to what it was before would you go back to it or is it a case of too many bad experiences so I'll never be back.

And would anyone be sane trying to take on a small business during these tough times when people simply do not have the cash to splash around on treats such as eating out...

General discussion / Gambling
September 11, 2011, 05:45:40 PM
Folks judging by a few of the threads on the board it's safe to say a good few of you here like to gamble, i like a punt on the football but i also would have a we flutter on the horses too. If I'm honest if i stuck to just football i believe i could make a small profit but the problem is when i bet on horses I'd lose. Also if i do get a half decent win then I'd scarper from the bookies with my winnings and would not stand there punting with my winnings, some friends of mine have said if they win they'd spend the day in the bookies until they were broke.

What type of gambler are you and what do you gamble on?

June 17, 2011, 07:20:40 PM
Folks i was in South Dublin yesterday and used the M50 Toll, i've got to 8:00 this evening to pay for my journey(s). the problem is it's asking me how many journeys i made...simple enough request i know but do they count there and back as one journey? as if i put in 2 journeys then they're asking for €6 and i was under the impression that it was roughly €1.80 a journey yet for 1 journey they're looking €3...WTF. How much is the hoor

P.S. Can the Nordies not get away without paying...

General discussion / Unemployed & Benefits
January 04, 2011, 12:09:58 PM
I will soon be unemployed (haven't been told yet but i know it's coming) and i was wondering what benefits i would be entitled too, i have 2 kids and a wife who only works 16 hours a week (small wage). I have been in constant employment for 21 years...

The Southern Brethren can add to this to compare what North get compared to South

There may well be a thread similar to this so sorry in advance...

P.S. I work in Civil Engineering (Consultants) and the construction industry is dead (you already know this) but apparently manufacturing has picked up? Can this lead onto the Construction Industry improving or not?

General discussion / Anti Social Behaviour
August 11, 2010, 10:34:02 AM
We are currently getting £500,000 worth of improvements to our pitch and club and the scum bags last night broke into the yard and stole the dumper. They rammed it into the fencing knocking it down and also done the same to the school next door as well as ripping up trees and god know what else damage (haven't got up to the club yet).

The dumper was found nearby parked in an unusual way (police's description) so they'll prob do a controlled explosion on it and that will scrap that. These we bastids just get of Scot free, the police come down and take a few notes and say "we couldn't catch them" but they'd rather hide in a hedge a mile away and stop some motorist doing 35mph in a 30mph zone.

Years ago you could have phoned a few guys or went to Sinn Fein for the same result but now you can't do anything about it but just bend over and take it up the a**e. What you would pay to catch these we bastids in action and give them the justice they deserve.

General discussion / Translink/NI Railways
July 21, 2010, 11:04:57 AM
Lads give me your opinions on the following story i heard last night in our club.

On sat past there were two adults and 3 children (11 year old, 15 year old and a 17 year old) who travelled to Dublin for the Armagh match on the Enterprise, the journey down was fine but it was the return home journey that caused the controversy.

Whilst boarding the train they were asked to produce their train tickets and they obliged and the inspector then guided them down the train, when they got in to the carriage there were no seats available. they checked the next few carriages and they too were full so one of the adults decided to try his luck and entered 1st class, he was allowed thru and proceeded to take a seat. He then went and got the rest of his party and brought them thru, 15 mins into the journey the same inspector came and asked them to produce their tickets for inspection to which one of the adults said "Sure you seen my ticket 15 mins ago" the inspector asked for it again and the father of the children let on he'd dropped it to which he was asked to purchase another ticket (yes you've guessed it by now he had his ticket in his pocket but didn't wanna show it as it wasn't for 1st class) he said he wasn't purchasing another ticket as he didn't have the money to do so and that he'd go up the train and look for his original ticket.

The inspector and this adult continued their dispute to which he said "I'm not arguing with you anymore" and stormed off, this guy then asked the girl who was serving drinks/food could he order a drink and she told him she was not allowed to serve him and that was the end of that. The train pulled up at Drogheda and 3 car loads of Gardai boarded the train and escorted the party of five of the train not before pleading their innocence and then showing their valid tickets which didn't matter as they were threw of the train anyway, the father of the children pleaded with inspector and the Gardai that he'd no money on him and had no way of getting his family home especially at 10:45 at night with no more trains to follow. The inspector then wished them a nice evening as they got of the train.

Right my opinion is they should have showed their tickets and should not have been in 1st class but surly under Health & Safety they should not have been thrown off the train at that hour of the night knowing they had no money to get home and especially with children as well as having valid tickets and surly the inspector should have warned them that if they didn't produce their tickets then they'd be thrown off the train and the fact the inspector wished them a nice evening getting off the train with the 11 year old girl in floods of tears was a bit OTT.

General discussion / Top Secret Hotel
June 21, 2010, 04:56:08 PM
Trying to book a hotel for Barcelona for 4 nights and thru www.lastminute.com it is throwing up hotels at half the price but the snag is they're called "Top Secret Hotel" so you don't know the name nor  the street until you book then they give you the information. they just guarantee you that it's 4* and it's region but not the street.

Has anyone ever booked like this before? and if so was it ok. Hotels in Barcelona for 4 nights is about £450 - £500 but this deal for a 4* is £200...sounds too good to be true

GAA Discussion / Excuses
June 16, 2010, 11:18:43 AM
Lads, i have been involved in management with both Senior and B/Reserve for my club team and as i sit here this morning I'm well pissed of with my mobile texting from players on the day of the match claiming they can't play tonight because....blah blah blah. I would love to tell them all to go and get stuffed but if the truth be told if i were to do that we would be stuck for a team.

give me some of the excuses you've heard as the some of the ones I've been give are just comical...

- Can't play tonight because I've a concert to go to today
- Can't play tonight because I've to bring my sister to the airport...WTF (get your ma or day to do it you tool bucket)
- Can't play tonight because I've just finished exams and we're all going out
- Can't play tonight because I'm going on holiday next week and i could get hurt...(you might get hurt if you don't play)

This is only the tip of the iceburg...don't even get me started about lads that don't come back after one match because they didn't start or because they we're taken off :'( :'( :'(

'I didn't have that much to drink'
According to the Science Museum's survey, this is the most popular lie that men tell women. Us ladies also use it on the lads, but not as frequently.

'Nothing's wrong, I'm fine'
Women aren't the only ones who lie about their feelings - men do it too! Saying 'nothing's wrong, I'm fine' is the second most likely lie to be told by the average male.

'I had no signal'
How many times have we heard this one, ladies? There seems to be a distinct lack of mobile phone signal in the UK, according to the men in our lives...

'It wasn't that expensive'
It's a well known fact that us ladies love to shop - but it seems that the boys are also up for a spot of retail therapy every now and then - and they are telling us porkies about their purchases, too!

'I'm on my way'
Is he really on his way? Probably not according to the study - lying about their whereabouts is the fifth most popular lie for men to tell their partners.

'I'm stuck in traffic'
The study found that the average male uses 'I'm stuck in traffic' as an excuse rather frequently - no wonder us ladies are always wondering what you're up to lads!

'No, your bum doesn't look big in that'
It's not what you wanted to hear, girls - when your other half tells you that your bum doesn't look big in that pair of tiny shorts - he may not be telling the truth!

'Sorry, I missed your call'
f your other half doesn't answer the phone, then it's quite possible that he is busy with something else but - according to the survey - he might just be ignoring your call. Saying 'sorry, I missed your call' is the eighth most popular lie that men tell women.

'You've lost weight'
Compliments from the men in our lives are always welcome - but not when they're fibs! The ninth most popular lie for men to tell women is 'you've lost weight'.

'It's what I've always wanted'
Both men and women are guilty of telling this lie - obviously neither sex wants to upset the other's feelings by saying that the gift they have just received isn't quite to their taste...

Again, feel free to add your own lies...

'Nothing's wrong, I'm fine'
According to the survey, women have a tendency to use lying to conceal their true feelings - whereas men tend to lie more about their drinking habits.

'I don't know where it is, I haven't touched it'
How many times have you tidied up only to find that your partner then can't locate his wallet/bus pass/keys? Truth is, we have moved your possessions lads, but we're not going to admit to it!

'It wasn't that expensive'
We've all done it - blown the budget for that must-have necklace or handbag - and it seems quite a few of us are lying about it too! Saying 'it wasn't that expensive' was the third most popular lie that women tell men.

'I didn't have that much to drink'
Saying 'I didn't have that much to drink' is a lie that both sexes tell each other - but it's the lie that men tell women most whereas us ladies are more likely to lie about our feelings.

'I've got a headache'
Have you ever lied about having a headache to escape a situation you didn't want to be in? Plenty of the women questioned for the survey have - it is the fifth most popular lie that women tell men.

'It was in the sale'
Ah, shopping in the sales - the last refuge of the modern woman. Why we feel the need to lie about it, we're not sure, but it's one of the top 10 lies we tell our other halves on a regular basis.

'I'm on my way'
We've all been there - having spent hours painstakingly applying make-up and choosing the right outfit, vanity has gotten the better of us and we're about to be late for a date with hubby. 'I'm on my way' is the lie we tell to avoid the 'you're always late' argument (or at least stave it off until we arrive!).

'Oh, I've had this ages'
Three of the top 10 lies that women tell men are related to shopping - it seems that we can't get enough of it - but we're not prepared to let our husbands and boyfriends in on our little secret!

'No, I didn't throw it away'
In our experience, men seem to hang on to all sorts of rubbish - anything from tens of empty carrier bags to old socks that just need binning. Women like to give them a 'helping hand' with clearing the rafters every now and then - but we also seem to have a habit of lying about it!

'It's what I've always wanted'
Have you ever received a gift that you despise from someone whose feelings you don't want to hurt so you say that you love it and it's what you've always wanted? Women and men alike admitted to using this lie - it was the tenth most popular in the top 10 for both sexes.

Please feel free to add your own lies...
