GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh Players Release Statement
September 11, 2009, 12:19:34 PM
As an outsider i think its a different situation to cork hurlers, no one has been appointed as manager and they are expressing their disappointment that a viable candidate whom the players would have approved of, did not get the job because of outside personal agendas/none football reasons and they are left with no manager at the minute.
I think the hurlers situation was different than that, in that they didnt want who the CB had appointed.

Glen Johnson has looked dodgy for England at right back particularly against Slovenia last Saturday, there was massive space down his flank all game.  Great going forward, but I just wonder about him...
I thought Johnson was excellent last night

Did anyone see Colm O'Rourke's article last Sunday where he listed Tyrone players (among them Dooher, Enda McGinley, Kevin Hughes, Brian McGuigan and Owen Mulligan) whom he thought would be better off retiring and might be sorry later on if they didn't retire now. I might be misquoting O'Rourke a bit as I couldn't find the article online earlier this week, but that's the gist of what he said.

Any opinions?
i can see the arguement for those two , injuries will have taken their toll, but all the others are still only 28/29 with a good few years left in them yet if they choose

I think someone mentioned it before, but how the fcuk are there queues on the M1 out of Belfast every f**king evening ???

The roadworks slow people down but not to a f**king crawling speed for 5/6 miles >:(

Really pissing me off and it's just as bad coming into Belfast in the mornings. I just don't get tailbacks. Drive on to f**k!

Yea this is really annoying...I just don't get why the traffic actually comes to a standstill at some points when 2 lanes are still open???  How like??!!!  People being nosey feckers looking at the workers I suppose.  Does my head in, especially trying to get on the M1 at Stockman's Lane.  I actually go by Shaw's Bridge and Hillhall now and go on the motorway there; I dunno if it is shorter or longer but at least you are moving the whole time so it doesn't feel as long!!
yesterday evening was a complete nightmare, 40 minutes to travel the 10 miles from belfast to  lisburn on the motorway, and then the traffic just seems to free up!
like someone said , i dont understand how the tailbacks are so bad when there are still 2 lanes open ???

I have been reading the posts on here for a while now and as a Mayo man i dont think we will be running on to the pitch to see our county pick up Sam any time soon. of course there is the tradition of runnig on to the pitch at the end of the game, we used to have the tradition of having 10 pints and driving home from the pubs, but that has stopped. i dont buy into this tradition thing at all, what happened on Sunday was a disgrace, in Australia if anyone runs on to the pitch they are fined 5000 dollars and banned for ten years. There are no doubt commercial issues as to why the presentation is moving center pitch, but as someone who deals with insurance claims and insurance companies on an almost daily basis, let no one be under any illusion about the amount of claims that will be lodged follwoing sundays incident, especially now there is a recession on. Say for instance some lads claims he slipped on the wet pitch on Sunday, hurt the back and is out of work for a couple of weeks, it doesn't take long for the amounts to add up. The GAA have under health and safety law have  to provide safe access and egress to all users of the stadium and to minimise the risk of injury  to all patrons. if someone gets killed or trampled inside the stadium it's the stadium director who will be in the high court answering the charges. If sports clubs around the world can keep their fans off the pictches without much fuss, why can't it be done here. Tradition is all good and well but when some 7 year old kid is trampled or seriously hurt, hand wringing and d**kheads ringing Joe Duffy about tradition wont be much good then. Times move on and the GAA will have to move with them. The corporate sponsors and insurers will demand it.

On a personal level I couldn't give a rats ass what they do in Austrailia , rugby or soccer. We do nothing for ourselves in this country anymore. Its all about conforming to everybody else's standards.
Ours is an amateur game with a unique connection between the public and the players. No other sport in the world has this. But try telling the likes of Peter Mc Kenna what its like to have a player from a small club parish playing in an all-ireland final and he'd probably look at you with 2 heads.

It seems to me everybody can get onto Croke Park these days, except the people the place was built for. Teams can't even get a training session on it, but Bono can rip the pitch the bits if he bloody well likes.

The reason people run onto the pitch is because of that connection. The day that connection goes- is the day we're just like all the rest.

I'm probably in the minority on this as usual but I'm fed in this country about having to copy everyone bloody else. there was a time in Ireland when we used to do things for ourselves. Obviosuly with the suits running Croke Park these days , another fine tradition goes by the wayside.

I'm happy to take my chances the next time Dublin win an-all-reland. probably never the way we're going :D

I don't think you are.
I agree with you 100% anyway.
I remember the Australians were pretty nervous after the IR game in Pearse Stadium when the kids came on the pitch! :D
Why we would want to copy them?
Time to draw a line in the sand.
dont think your in the minority at all, i would agree with all of that aswell

The GAAboard at the minute. The place has gone to the dogs in the last few weeks.

You only have to look at the threads on the front page to see numerous WUMs and arseholes running wild, free from any censure. Those wind up threads were the first decent threads in weeks until a handful of idiots started filling them with crap.

The irony of it all is that these boys are getting away with far greater misdeeds than a number of well liked and respected posters, who've recently been exiled.
spot on AFS, alot of rubbish at the minute & decent posters like corn ONL et al got banned for far less

People who park right at the door of a shop. then stop and get talking to someone right at the door and you have to try and shuffle past the fat bitch and her car just to get a bit of grub for lunch! And she looked at me like i had two heads when i said exuse me, i dont care if your holdin a child or not love, you can stand and chat all day about your kids, just not right in front of the door when im clean starvin for sausage beans and chips!

They always seem to be fat c***ts, driving a people carrier, have a a massive bunch of car keys with loads of keyrings hanging off, holding a big black purse in one hand and wearing white tshirt and black leggings with baby sick on them

Can you be a bit more specific rollout??
Do you have anyone in mind?
quite an accurate description i thought!
