The reason play-offs were introduced into the club football leagues were to compensate clubs playing games without their county reps, particularly important in a county like Tyrone where the tradition is that league placement determines championship status - although they do sit somewhat awkwardly in how the club season has been structured in recent years where they're played as an after-championship set of games where competing teams can be waiting a number of weeks depending how clubs involved in respective play-offs fair in their respective championships and thus I can see why quite a few people would like to see them got rid off. The two issues I'd have is that doing so penalises smaller clubs have miss having players in the league due to county commitments (the "starred" game system is a very imperfect solution) as well as increasing the potential amount of dead rubbers in the latter part of the season, especially in Division 3. As an example, the promotion play-off system is keeping our (Fintona) boys interested in playing in the league competitively, without it the latter half of our fixtures this year - at least - would be glorified challenge games.

As I said a wee while back, even if Divisions 1 & 2 stick to 16 teams each next year, at least have some sense to divide Division 3 into A & B leagues either next year or in 2024 so that most Junior football teams will have something to compete for during most of the league. And while I'm at it, have 3 automatic promotion/relegation places between Division 1&2 too at least. Otherwise it's perfectly possible for an Intermediate team to lose only two games during the county season next year (1 league, 1 championship) and not end up being promoted.

100% agree

Does 2nd through 5th not make the playoffs in div2 & 3 as previous years?

Are the top 4 in Division 1 this year into semi-finals? Could the semis & final be played off in the 2 weekends before championship?

3 up and 3 down would be great imo, would leave a good turnover of clubs and lots of different clubs would be able try their hand at higher division

Yes I think it is 2nd through 5th - play offs can't be played before championship incase one of the teams meant to be in play offs win the championship. If so a team in 6th would get play off spot. Also if a team that were relegated/in relegation play off won championship it would mess that up so plays off would have to wait.

I do believe there are 3 weeks between division 1 finishing and championship starting - I think the league semi final and final are to be played those weeks. In division 2, last game scheduled for 4th September, championship  starts 15th for them so only one weekend free

Hard to see past Errigal tbh.
Dungannon V Trillick should be a good opening game. Matty Donnelly came on as a sub on Tuesday night scoring 2 points.

The current Errigal team is a stunning array of talent.

Totally agree.

Still got their pants pulled down by the Coalisland bandits last year.

It really is.

Would you trust their full back line under a few high balls though?

Let's not get carried away, they got undone by a few high balls into the box which could happen to any team

This is a coming of age year for Errigal.

I'm going for Coalisland. Form is picking up in the league and have a decent draw if they can get past Carrickmore.

Ruairi Canavan injured and the same problems in the full back line. Winners of Dungannon and Trillick will be hard to look past.

Just as stunning as the Coalisland team. Young devlin and Mc Hugh lorded the county u21 scene.  Then you have a freshly tanned mc kernan coming back from America well rested. Throw in hampsey and the rolls Royce plunket kane. Only weaknesses they have is in goals. if Coalisland don't make a county final ferguson will be sent packing back to dungannon ladies where he he had a great time.
Coalisland will walk bottom half of draw. Top half is a little bit more complicated

Might not walk past Carrickmore that handy.

Errigal have county players in almost every position
And every line on the pitch has at least two.
Since they got their county players back no one has laid a glove on them
Dungannon got a draw ( but Errigal had a 9 point lead)
Clear favourites to win it, can't see anyone getting close to them.
Peter Harte, Darragh Canavan, Rory Canavan - no club could match that
