General discussion / American Visa Questions
January 03, 2015, 12:37:15 PM
Folks- There's probably a thread on this already but I can't find it.

I am heading with the family to America this year. I need to fill in an ESTA don't I? Some of us are on Irish passports and some on UK. Can we all apply under the one ESTA?

GAA Discussion / Player Injury Fund
February 26, 2014, 11:45:07 AM
Folks
A quick query that I am sure affects most Clubs. These days players appear to be getting more serious injuries (That's a different debate altogether), and subsequently the cost of physio, operations etc is on the increase. Off the top of my head the GAA will cover the first £3500 of any treatment.

Previously this was adequate, however we're seeing treatment coming in these days for 4, 5, 6 grand etc.

The question, how do Clubs, administer this? Clubs are getting it tight for cash these days, so I am sure very few contribute much more than a token to the difference. However at the same time, very few players can afford the difference as well.

Anyone do anything innovative or different here?

General discussion / Playstation 3 or Playstation 4
November 06, 2013, 02:05:46 AM
Hopefully a few gamers here can offer advice.

The young fella is looking a PS4 for Christmas, but from what I read (Understand) the PS3 will be as good a job. From what I understand there is major advantage of the 4 over the 3, especially for newer game players.

The reason he wants the PS4 is essentially for Minecraft. However I know that there is a planned release of Minecraft on the PS3 but there is no release date mentioned yet.

In simple terms why should I buy a PS4 over a PS3?

Note, that I know the PS3 is cheaper, and I have also a nephew with a stack of games for the PS3 that he will have access to. I don't think these games are compatible with the PS4.

Thanks from a gaming ignoramus.

General discussion / Hotels in Dublin
May 13, 2013, 06:45:12 PM
Looking for some help. I'm taking the family to Dublin for a few days in July. Can anyone recommend family friendly hotels that won't rob me blind?

I see Travel Lodge in Pheonix Park for £60 for 2 nights, which is very cheap. However I am not sure of the quality as it gets mixed reviews. Anyone use it before?

I don't mind paying a wee bit extra for a bit more quality, comfort, cleanliness etc!

General discussion / Time For Terri
April 24, 2013, 04:48:06 AM
Hi Folks

I was wondering would you all mind taking 30 seconds out of your day and signing a petition that our Club is involved in.

Here's the speel...

As fellow Gaels 60 seconds of your time is all is needed.

In December 2008, Owen Roes GFC, Tyrone, lost one of its most popular and charismatic youngsters when their ladies under-age player Terri Devine was struck down by meningitis and passed away. This was an extremely difficult time for Owen Roes, but more so for Terri's family and many friends.

However since Terri's death the first ever vaccine designed to cover most strains of meningitis B in Europe has been developed.  The new vaccine called Bexsero could protect you or your family members, and ultimately stop others having to go through what Terri's family went through. Owen Roes GFC and Terri's family are asking for as many of you as possible to read the attached petition and ultimately add your signature to the growing list.

Bexsero has been given the green light by the European Commission, but at this moment in time it's uncertain that the NHS will provide this vaccination free of charge, and indeed at this stage it's believed the JCVI (the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) are considering its cost-effectiveness.

Terri's mum, Marie, says that 'by taking "Time for Terri" you're also taking time for the hundreds of others who have died or been left with severe physical/mental disabilities as a direct result of having "meningitis B". It's now too late for Terri and for them but for thousands of others this vaccine could not be introduced fast enough. When meningitis strikes "time" doesn't come into it - in 40 minutes our world fell apart. Two of Terri's very memorable sayings were "In a minute" and "Wait a minute"- no different from many others- but please don't wait and sign now (www.TimeforTerri.co.uk). All the photos in the world cannot replace the presence of a very special loved one in your life- their voice, their laughter.... their sound.... have gone forever."

We at Owen Roes support the efforts of Terri's family and want you to help create a growing band of people that signs this petition and ultimately helps expedite the implementation of this vaccine, as no decision on a person's life should be considered 'cost effective', as to Terri's Club, friends and family, her life was priceless.

We thank you for taking the 30 seconds to read this, and the 30 seconds to sign our petition. Thanks for taking, 'Time for Terri'.

Know I am asking this question as I am not sure of the answer (For now) as opposed to stirring things up.

After last week's bad snow storms, I note that Stormont is giving the farmers affected £5 million to help them out. Why?

We all had a good gripe when the banks got bailed out. What's different now?

Farmers' incomes, I'd guess, would be in the mid to top range of people in the country, and I know they work hard for it, but why do they get a bail out from the government? What makes them special?

GAA Discussion / Ladies GAA
February 13, 2013, 12:54:52 PM
A couple of queries re ladies eligibility.

1. What's the youngest age a lady can be adult football. Is it the same as the men's game where-by if you play U16 you can't play adult?

2. Can you play for two underage Clubs. For example can you play for your home at U16, but if you've no minor team, play for a team that does have minor.

Folks I've a wee video made on JibJab.com but I can only access it if I am a member, and don't really want to sign up.

Would someone have membership, and secondly be kind enough to sign in for me to access the video?

Long shot, I know!

January 26, 2012, 02:58:34 PM
Anyone able to help?

I am trying to book 2 ad and 2 ch tickets with aerlingus. I only want to bring two bags (Pay for two), but when I book it only appears to be giving me the upgrade option for all or nothing.

Anyone more familiar with this than I am.

I am probably missing something really obvious.

General discussion / Anyone up to speed on projectors?
January 11, 2012, 06:37:29 PM
The bulb has gone on our overhead for the Club, and replacement ones aren't cheap.

The model is an Epson EMP-74.

Would this be a good price to pay for a replacement? £144 inc VAT. I know nothing about this sort of stuff, but I know the bulbs are very dear!

General discussion / What Electricity Supplier?
January 11, 2012, 06:23:08 PM
Thinking about changing my electricity supplier from NIE after a doorstep sell from Budget energy.

It states that their unit price is 14p, with NIE (Power NI) at 16.29p. Airticity is 15.1p.

Anyone made the switch? Any thoughts?

GAA Discussion / Owen Mulligan- The End!
July 14, 2011, 10:39:57 PM
Rumours abound the Owen Mulligan has packed up his Inter County boots!

http://www.teamtalkmag.com/?p=7101

It would seem that last Saturday night could well have marked the final time that we will see Owen Mulligan in a Tyrone jersey.  Sources in the Cookstown area have confirmed that Owen has decided to hang up the boots only a few days before the Round 3 Qualifier against either Armagh or Wicklow.  His decision seems to be linked to a perceived lack of game time.

Mulligan featured for Tyrone in five out of the six National League games this year.  He came on for the last 15 minutes as a replacement for Martin Penrose on Saturday night and started the Donegal match gaining 51 minutes action.   In the opening Ulster Championship match with Monaghan he had 14 minutes action.

The news will come as a huge disappointment to Tyrone fans and more particularly to team manager Mickey Harte and the Tyrone players as Owen has contributed so much to the success of the team over the last decade.

Certainly Teamtalkmag.com hope that Owen can be talked around over the incoming days as no doubt he would have a big contribution to make as Tyrone enter the business end of the season.

General discussion / Ryan Giggs
May 23, 2011, 05:19:37 PM
At the request of the Man United fans who stated that this deserves a thread of own AND to ensure consistancy, I have opened up a new thread.

I see Giggsy Wiggsy has been named as the footballer who is taking Twitter to court.

I seriously hope it's not for the reasons that Twitter is suggesting. Giggs is the last bastion of honour and decency in the game, and if he is now also a 'sc**bag' (That's the classification he has to be put into as per Man United fans official interpretation), what do we do?

Personally I have hid all referances to soccer in the house and bought the wee fella a Cricket bat.

On another note is there an issue at Old Trafford where by they appear to have a higher degree of this than other clubs Rooney, Giggs, Tevez when he was there and then you've this...
