At least as important a factor, though, was the consensus sentiment that football needed help. For all that we had a great championship with unexpected winners, there is a crisis for the GAA in the collapse of attendance, especially in Leinster and an improved game may not be a comprehensive response. But it will be a start.

I'm not sure that any change in the rules will help the Leinster championship.
Neither do I. The GAA killed the golden goose

The new rules are gonna lead to some hammerings again. Dublin will still walk Leinster thumping teams as they go.

For all the talk of paying managers, would it not make more sense to pay refs? I know they get a small amount for expenses but would decent money not make it more attractive? They'll have it handy enough now with the 50 yard rule as well.

Well, if there was a way to channel whatever money is out there, to refs and underage teams, I'd vote for it in the morning.  But the monster has already been created unfortunately.

Sure the ref just needs to stand in the crowd or on the sofa with all the other cracking eagle eyed hawks ;D

None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

In fairness the only way Dublin wouldn't win Leinster is if they made it a hurling competition

Dead in a ditch once you use the phrase "compelling a player"

Do you know what drives me f**king potty?

Most of the clubs who voted for this motion couldn't care if they won a league title, to the point that if they'd a league final the week before a championship match, they wouldn't field in the league final.

This is mostly a "spoiled child" motion ie they see something they want. They don't know why they want it, they just do. So they'll throw their toys until they get it. Then never play with it anyhow.

The Trap

Over the past few weeks these have been some of the GAA headlines:
- New rules passed to make Gaelic football a completely new sport.

- A new rule that has to "compel" county players to play 4 games a year for their club.

- Kerry and other counties spending more than €1.5 million on county teams.

- Revenue looking into county finances and everyone knows if they were to dig deep enough they would find so much that things would change dramatically.

- Charging under 16s into games.

- Cork convention unveiling how much debt they are in due to stadium and how little they are able to pay off every year.

What has happened to the GAA? You listen to Enda McGinley speaking on the real wealth of the club scene and community and what it should be all about and compare to the above.

Maybe it's just trying to keep pace with this modern tiktok/skysports world but I would have thought the strength of the GAA was giving an alternative to that.

The pace of change is frightening, every 5 years you can see a massive change. The BIGGEST threat that I can see now is the lack of volunteers there are going to be and the lack of referees. The solution to both will be more money to attract people to do these jobs.

Is that where everyone wants the GAA to go?

The Trap

You can now add to this the recent figures outlining spending figures on county teams that totalled over 43 million with Galway nearly 3 million alone. And that's just the official figure!!! Doubled in last 10 years. How does that end? 8 professional teams spread across the country.......who wants that?

Can we step back now before it goes too far? Noel McCaffrey speaking utter sense on this but will anyone listen as they are all on the gravy train.

Then we have the recent Rory Gallagher/Jarlath Burns debacle which has really split opinion. Whichever way you look at its another thing that's been handled terribly.
