Quote from: screenexile on July 10, 2025, 10:53:38 PMBoylesports have pulled the betting on next Derry manager Meenagh was favourite @ 3/10 last time I looked!

If it is Meenagh, and ill be more than happy if it is, why get rid of Tally?
Surely they could have worked together?

Quote from: BigGreenField on July 09, 2025, 08:16:53 PMEejits with notions. A squad that had fallen apart with a lot of miles on the clock that needs rebuilt while adjusting to new rules and which doesn't have the quality to glide through.

Tally did a decent job for the most part (some wobbles).
Aye, he did everything right except win a match.

Not that I'm blaming him. Nor do I think he should be got rid of. But not winning a match in a year is some "wobble".

2 draws,9 defeats in 11 league and championship games under Tally. The two draws against Galway who were eventually taken out by Meath.

And your point is?
A lot more than some wobbles.

McGeeney took, what 6 years to win a championship game. Never got Armagh promoted out of Div 2 in those years, that's wobble central and look what happened ..kneejerk from the CB, man deserved another year

McGeeney first came on board as Paul Grimley's coach on the team that lost the All Ireland Quarter final narrowly to Donegal in 2014.

Was it the Derry county board or the players responsible for allowing Mickey Harte leave after just one year? he led Derry to their first Divison one league title for 16 years and reached the last eight of the championship which was a decent job.  Nobody would have the opinion Harte did a  "decent job for the most part (some wobbles)" had he the record of Tally this year.

The difference with Harte was that he introduced his new tactics for the championship - which cost us big time. But rather than admit the mistake and revert back, he stuck to his guns and we were continually caught out in the same way time and again.
For the league win, the team was still playing they way they had been under RG/Meenagh. By the time championship came around, the tweaks were implemented and the stubbornness  or blindness to what was going wrong is what did for them.

Tally made his mistakes with the keeper, but when he realised it wasnt working, he tried to rectify it. Unfortunately Lynch got injured and the previous #2 keeper had gone travelling, leaving us with no option. Another keeper drafter in, again signs that Tally could see where the issues were and was trying to resolve. In my view, he was much better than Harte/Devlin.

Whilst he didnt win a game, I still took quite a few positives from the year. Young players blooded, injured players starting to return towards the end of the season had an obvious upturn in our performances and the players seemed to be pulling with him. I was quietly confident we'd have a much better 2026 with a much stronger panel. I think that why this comes as a bit of a shock - and I say all of that with being majorly disappointed when he was given the gig.

So someone + Meenagh?
Meenagh would be a huge plus point.
I wonder how long until we hear who the someone is?

What next for Paddy Tally? This year prob didnt do him any favours in terms of getting another managerial post.

Didn't see that coming

According to Cahair

Seriously?
Tally should be given a chance, as much as I think he totally messed up the GK choices, the team was decimated by injuries and I dont think anyone would have done much better.
From what I'd heard planning for next year had already started so its strange if this has happened.

Morgan's kickouts were a disaster against Dublin - but they still managed to win.
I thought Tyrone were poor against Dublin until that last 10-15mins, and I thought Dublin were poor throughout.
Tyrone's main players are still the older guys, Peter Harte, Mattie Donnelly and McGeary - if Kerry get on top of them out the field and break even around the MF area the supply won't be there regardless of what combination of forwards Tyrone play.

However, if the 3 mentioned above get on top and can last the full game, then Tyrone are in with a shout.

Kerry have been inconsistent all year, but can switch it on and have the forwards who are more capable of winning their own battles than Tyrone do - on that point I agree with O'Se. But if in this game Kerry don't play at their best, then can be caught because the same applies to them in that if there is no supply going forward they will struggle for scores.

I think Kerry have the defenders to go man-to-man on DC and McCurry, not sure Tyrone can say the same about Seanie O'Shea or Cliffords.
For me, Tyrone's best chance is to run at the Kerry defence - which takes a lot of energy especially in the hot weather.
I don't think there'll be a huge gap between them, but in general I think Kerry have better players in more positions and so will likely win by 5 or 6.

I liked squid games too - although I'd have liked a bit more background the Officer and his brother.
Is it set up for an American version based on that final scene?

All given to Satanyahu to murder Palestinians!

You're probably right.
It feels like Trump has his mind made up that Ukraine is going to lose and Russia will take over so why throw good money after bad. Whereas Israel is a sure thing.

I've always wondered, when we talk about giving weapons, does the US sell those weapons to Israel/Ukraine or do they donate? Possibly a stupid question - but the terminology used always seems to be "given" or "supplied".
I'm assuming sold, and if they are selling the weapons, where is Israel getting all the money for a country that size?
Ukraine I assume are going into huge debt?
Would that be the driving factor behind where the weapons go? More money for them in Israel?

Quote from: Ball on July 03, 2025, 12:37:27 PMHave to agree with those on about the lack of promotion from the county board, its getting worse every year. There was more in the mid ulster back in the day! Surely it cant be that difficult to sort.

Still no word of championship draw either?

On the Senior team, be interesting to see if theres any potential stand outs for a call up but cant see it, i think most of the stand out players are there or dont want to commit.

The Ciaran Meenagh talk is silly, "go all out to get him", why would he leave down now? There mustve been a reason he left derry to go to down so as much as id love to have him back i cant see it happening.

More likely tally will bring mcgilly in. Was he involved with a county team somewhere this year too?

Tally might not happen, but it's far from silly. He was with Derry from Div 4, teaches in Ballinascreen and would know the players and staff well. He technically won an Ulster with Derry and got us within a whisker of beating Kerry in an AISF. From what I gather he was offered the role, but didn't want to be the main man as it would have meant giving up his teaching role which he wasn't prepared to do and is fully understandable given how volatile the Senior County Management roles are.
Owenbeg might be a handier drive than wherever Down train, and with players returning we have a lot of potential.
There'd be a lot of positives for Meenagh should he have the opportunity to return, and a lot of positives for Derry too.

There's plenty of inside men getting paid too, but you are right of course.

For what it's worth, I think Meath are in with a real shout here.
They've come out of nowhere really this year and its a free swing for them. They're young, athletic and can score 2 pointers.
If they can relentlessly run at Donegal, there's scores to be had. It could be a shoot out this one.
I also don't think Donegal are quite as good as they are made out to be - though they are very good.
I just feel the gap isn't as wide as some think.

Quote from: imtommygunn on July 02, 2025, 04:35:24 PMIf you ran at them boys in the early 90s you'd have done it once and not have been doing it again in a hurry.

Just ask the Tyrone men  ;D

To be fair, I loved watching Meath in the 90s. A real hard team with great footballers all over the pitch. I remember Derry v Meath in a Div 1 league final that finished up a draw then went to a replay in Clones with Derry winning a tight game. Big Tohill score a screamer of a goal.
But I get what you're saying about not running at them a 2nd time - they played right on the edge and were brilliant to watch.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on July 01, 2025, 10:50:19 PMLook forward to the multi arrests and court cases for persons unknown putting up flags of illegal organisations.

Had the "pleasure" of driving through Moygashel last week - UVF flags galore.
I saw in the news one night there some new development in Derry has had flags put up by a gang of masked men and a load of graffiti saying things like "flags stay" and "loyalist area". Its a mixed development is my understanding.

Quote from: David McKeown on July 01, 2025, 09:22:52 PMWhen it refers to breach of contract I don't think it means any form of management contract.

I think from what I'm reading there that the contract being referred to is the contractual relationship that occurs when two sides agree go to arbitration. In essence in order to take a case to arbitration both sides have to bind themselves to be contractually obligated to respect the outcome of same.

I think the breach of contract being referred to is that by sending the email in question the GAA through their servant or agent Jarlath Burns have undermined that contractual obligation to bound by the DRA decision.

I'm no legal expert but that was my reading of it too.
DRA overturned his disbarment but Burns, by his actions effectively implemented a disbarment.
RG sounds like he's in the right to me.

I've said it before, given that there has been no legal action taken against Gallagher for the accusations, not even charged, then there should be no reason whey he can't coach or manage.

Burns overstepped - he let his personal opinion affect his professional judgement.
