they do have good players and a proper manager could get them over the line so let's hope it's a Southgate Mark 2 appointment.

They're a collection of individuals - I don't think the players are as good as made out(or close).

I always thought we punched above our weight and were always better than the sum of our parts(north and south tbf). I don't ever remember an england team who could be accused of that...

I don't think that one was him but there's plenty of stuff he's been at. I read the stuff a bit during covid at the start but there was significant hate and made up bullshit being spouted about people who'd died from covid. It was very offensive to the people involved, regardless of views on any of that, and I just blocked him. Nothing but hate and bile.

The relegation side of division 1 used to be great MR after the split. Every game meant something. Playoffs do this year but not much else. Also teams with loads of county players do feel like they're being punished as there was at most 2 league stage games after county went out.

I think a lot of counties have struggled to deal well with leagues and the split season. It probably should be looked at universally - tyrone seems the benchmark for it. It will cause apathy and do no good for standards like has been said here if not looked at.

Read the derry thread on that. I don't think the derry leagues are good at all. Tyrone it would seem have the best setup.

There's supposed to be a load of immigrants being placed there or something like that.

You would wonder would David Clifford get one? Paudie probably more deserving. I don't think he merits one but gleeson has seriously improved this last year - he was a major weak link for Galway and you had to wonder why Joyce stuck with him but he has fairly turned it round.  Hughes is good and I think one of the big reasons for Armagh's significant improvement but Morgan is the best in the business at the minute.

Really good first half against Holland but that was it. I don't think the way the midfield is setup suits too many of them.

So,what do these extra people do?
Very little.
I would say the multiple health trusts, education authorities, councils, the duplicated education structures etc would be a not inconsiderable percentage.

I'm not sure what size the management structures in the health trusts are, but I think on the education structures we're not talking a lot of people. The number of teachers, classroom assistants etc would not change if the education was all brought under a single umbrella and only a percentage of that governance layer would be reduced.
Having multiple health trusts for a place the size of NI is madness I think.
But merging the education system I don't believe would impact the overall number of governance roles significantly.

I hear they are pretty big and would agree on the health trust thing. I would say it's more health than education costing this.

I'd an antrim top on going to Lisburn and I regretted it quick enough when I had to stop at temporary lights with a crowd of ones round it. I just covered it up but it's a time of year that makes me pretty uncomfortable tbh.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on July 15, 2024, 10:08:07 AMIt's honestly like they don't want to admit that they need the foreign lads with the actual game intelligence to run the show and allow them to just play their game as they want.

I think that's exactly what's happening and has been for years.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on July 15, 2024, 09:51:42 AMChrist the standard of punditry from the English is a joke. Juan Mata and Fabregas showing them up.

Get Palmer on...so take off Saka? Oh no!
Harry Kane needs to be dropped for Watkin...but he is aiming for the Golden Boot...oh well then...

As a group they seem together but on the pitch they all want to be heroes. Why can't foden do it? It's almost like he doesn't have Rodri, De Bruyne and Silva's class with him, or that Englan can't control the ball...

Bellingham plays as a False 9 for Real backed up by Kroos and he has 2 flyers either side. Essentially ALL the England front men want to be in the Number 10 spot.

Even Rice is meant to be a holding player, but he wants to bomb on, but without the protection he gets at Aresenal.

I love these combined 11s before the Final where barely any Spanish players make the team.

That's exactly it. Each of these boys are very good with the right players and system behind them. They don't have that here.

Quote from: bennydorano on July 14, 2024, 10:22:34 PMRice has the touch of a Bulgarian shot putter. Mainoo so much classier.

Mainoo a belter of a player. Had a bit too much to do there but looks a very smart footballer.

Bellingham obviously has quality but tries to be Roy of the rovers. If they disciplined him to play a certain role he'd be better. Bit too much of a maverick and doesn't have the right players round him to do that.
