So much wishful thinking on this post

Brennan will be gone after this year

And we won't sink anyone next year never mind this year

At least my wishful thinking cancels out your constant negativity. Anyone listening to you would think the best thing to do is to rip up Brennan's contract, use the money saved to send Roddy and the boys on a summer long session and encourage all the young lads in Laois to celebrate July the 12th by creating a bonfire out of every hurl in the county.

I just hope that you are not let within an asses roar of managing any juvenile team in Clonad or further a field. You'd suck the life out any ambition they'd have. It's because of attitudes like yours that we historically have been under achievers. Probably the same attitude permeates many of those players that won't hurl for the county. Negativity begets negativity. Black cat - black kitten: be wiser with your words.

You dont really believe he is from Clonad do you?

Derek McGrath coaching Faythe Harriers

You'd wonder how he's going to coach our minors with a Wexford senior team

According to some on here, Derek McGrath must he finishing up shortly as he is only involved on a limited basis..........

Faythe Harriers posted the following on their Facebook page:

The Club is delighted to announce that Tony 'Sack' Walsh will manage our senior hurling team for the coming year 2020. We want to wish Tony and his management team the very best of luck for the year ahead. They will be supported by Derek McGrath who will be providing back up support and advice on certain occasions throughout the year. Derek's involvement is limited throughout the year as we understand his full commitment lies with the Laois minors. In saying that we are excited to have someone of Derek's calibre involved. Safe to say we are in steady hands and look forward to the year ahead.

Have Colt and Shanahoe announced their engagement yet or are they still keeping it a secret?

Nothing to announce.

Anything to announce now?

Well, it's appropriate to do so now. Amalgamation confirmed.
A lot of lies and half-truths have been spouted over christmas. Never an easy decision. Best of luck to all.

I always find these generational comparisons very difficult.
I was a little young to fully appreciate Niall Rigney and there's certainly a recency-bias with some of my picks.
I fully expect Podge Delaney, Aaron Dunphy, Mark Kavanagh and Lee Cleere to be definites across the next decade for example.

In terms on players who I feel would have made Kilkenny panels; I've always advocated for two in particularly.
Joe Fitzpatrick would have hurled for Kilkenny; he wouldn't have penetrated that incredible half-back line but he would have been a panelist for a decade.
One player I really feel would have claimed all-stars is John A Delaney. He's somewhat less heralded but compared to a lot his contemporaries but he was a hell of a corner back and got the better of some excellent hurlers down through the years.

I'm only hearing positive things personally.
Not a shambles but then Batman may have higher expectations and demands more than I.

Derek McGrath has been at every training bar one. The players have been screened and have individual plans to complete between now and February. Numbers are high and training has been a mix of pitch and S&C work.
Its December; that all seems pretty good to me. I'm not really sure what more they should be doing.

There is certinly some personal resentment against the management team on here. The truth is probably somewhere between the polarised views we've seen over the last month or so. They're a committed group and have in Derek McGrath a very capable coach who seems to have taken the lead to all intents and purposes. Without him, I'd have had concerns but the fact remains we do have him and for as long ss he remains the dominant voice, that can only be a positive.
They could do everything right and still come up short in a quarter/semi-final. The added pressure and burden of expectation brought on by having a high-profile coach makes it hard for this group of players.

Very best of luck to them all. They're a talented bunch and hopefully they'll give a fair account of themselves this year.

There is the possibility that Laois GAA byelaws allow for a continuation of an arrangement from juvenile level.
Does anybody have a copy?

The official rule book states

6.8 Playing Restrictions (Club)
(B) A player may not play with two Clubs in the same code in a given year's Championship,
within a County, save as provided for in
Exceptions below
(C) A player may play Hurling with one Club and
Football with another Club, within a County, subject to any restrictions provided in County Bye-Laws.

I'm certain that there once was a restriction on this in order to stop the bigger clubs hoovering up good players. I don't know if it is still there. But it should be.

Be interesting to see the final destination of those lads seeing as Burke's mother is from Drom/Inch and Shanahans father won a Tipp senior medal with Clonoulty.

Park Ratheniska/Timahoe maybe.

Fair enough.
I cant argue with that; all seems very plausible.

Ian Shanahan (Josephs) and Ciaran Burke (Crettyard) will be available as adult hurlers in 2020. Ballinakill would be the most-likely destinations assuming The Harps keep their football team.

I think it is different Merman, but I could be wrong. I'm of the opinion that the only way Tyrell could hurl with Camross & kick football with someone else would be if Camross dropped their football team.

Again, that's not my understanding of the rule but I don't really have anything to base that on.

On a separate note, I do find it peculiar this notion that Mountmellick could have 2 clubs, one football and one hurling. I have heard that suggested before but it's a strange anomaly if so; hard to understand what they gain from it and why a county board would allow it.
Will they have extra delegates at convention for example?

The obvious thing to do would be for Tyrell to complete a full transfer from Camross to Coutwood or any other football-only club.

He could then hurl with Camross as an isolated player and Camross could still enter a football team if they'd like.

You sure about that?

If he transferred to Courtwood (for example) he could seek permission to hurl with a Hurling ONLY club as far as I know?

Don't think that's the case Keyser.
The lads from Emo/The Rock/Kilcavan/Annanough all hurling with Mountmellick would suggest it's free game.
In the past there have been lads from Clonad kicking football with Ballyroan or Timahoe as well.

Don't Mountmellick operate separate hurling or football clubs?
And they are the only dual club that you mentioned. The rest are single code clubs

Ciaran Burke with The Harps?
(I appreciate it's juvenile so could be different.)

If Tyrell transferred to Courtwood, his isolated player request would come before county committee not a hope in hell of that passing.  Also under what qualification would he transfer to Courtwood as I can't see one.

I've never seen ANY isolated transfer blocked. Not one.

You may be right about the transfer to Coutwood.
