I work in construction! Everyone I know who are tradesmen all work as "self employed" and they all work for the one employer usually while doing work at weekends and evenings. Thanks for all the replies lads!

General discussion / Self Employment

I was looking a bit of advice if anyone knows anything about this I would be greatful!

I am currently self employed, have been as 2 years.  I have one main job as past 2 years where I work to a man during the week, he has his own company , I do other work by myself at the weekends/evenings and get paid from these jobs. I declare most of these payments and so therefore I pay tax on these.  The man I work for during the week pays my tax from that job, i pay my National Insurance myself.  He currently has no other employed workers, the other 2 are both self employed workers also.

He has recently said to me that I am going to have to go on the cards with him, i.e be employed by him and no longer self employed.  He has said that because he is paying me consistently the same money and I am self employed that he can get fined for the amount I am saving in tax and NIC by being self employed.  I was wondering is this true? If i go on the cards with him I will receive quite a considerable amount less than I am now, its about 300 a month of a difference.

Any advice on what to do here would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Anyone know how much conrete is per square metre? I would be looking to concrete the lane and round the house.

I realise its probably priced in m3, so the total area is 901square meter, dont know what this would equate to in m3 of concrete.

I would imagine there will be shuttle buses going from coleraine into portrush, the port takes hours on a warm sunday let alone biggest golf tournament in Ireland!! The train line from derry is going to be closed during this time afaik, due to upgrade of the track!! If we can get some good american players over, even a few stars, the crowds will flock in by 1000's! Imagine if Tiger or Phil or een Tom Watson came! Would def boost crowds!! Does anyone know what the proze money is for irish open?

Just watched Hunger there... An awful awful excuse for a movie!!!

It has no real plot, it's grotesque and I don't quite understand how a movie like this happens. There are so many important stories and interesting facets to the Hunger Strike and they have been completely ignored here.

It's the worst film I have seen in a long long time!!

Would agree with you there in that they ignored alot of stuff, but they went with one aspect of it and stuck to it, which was the hunger strike of Bobby Sands! His conversation with the priest is f**king class, think someone said that they filmed that conversation non stop or else is one take, cant mind which one it is.

Havent seen a thread relating to this yet, apologies if there is!

Who's all for heading to this?  Every major hotel around the Coleraine/Portrush area are said to have been booked out for the week since the announcement!

With tickets from £25 a day or £60 for the 4 day pass, will definitely be heading myself!! Dont live far away so will be handy to get to!

Cheers Lads! To be honest i'd love a Beamer...but is there anything in particular i should look for in one (as someone who knows little about mechanics!) ?

A good service history with any bmw is a must! Especially diesels, turbos would be most frequent thing to go in a diesel. As previous poster says you should def give the mainland a look, even to just compare prices. Good shout on lexus IS220d, know 2 men with them an they never shut up about how great they are.

http://www.usedcarsni.com/search_results.php?sortby=&dealer=&search_type=1&keywords=&make=2&price_from=7000&mileage_from=0&age_from=2007&trans_type=0&model=0&price_to=8000&mileage_to=0&age_to=0&fuel_type=0&distance_enabled=0&distance_miles=50&distance_postcode=&search.x=31&search.y=9

Plenty of bmws to choose from there, some really nice ones as well.  BMWs arent any dearer than Audi or VW etc when it comes to 3-4 year old ones.
