Fair play to Ballyboden. They'll be underdogs in the Leinster club final, but Birr would be very foolish to take they lightly.
Watched the Ballyhale Shamrocks vs Birr match on the telly and it was a cracking match. Good hurling and scores right through in a tight match. At 1-13 to 1-10 Birr were leading with minutes left, I was waiting on Ballyhale to get a goal and run riot in extra time. Birr closed out the match and Pa Joe Whelehan went mad running about celebrating the win. He spent most of the last 10/15 minutes coming on to the pitch giving advice and was like a 16th man ! Ballyhale never got going at all in the second half, the Reids were quietened and Michael Fennelly and co. got no time at all to give in any decent service to the forwards. Birr harried, harrassed, hooked, blocked, defended like their life depended on it. When Simon (?) Whelehan came on early in the first half he ran about until the final whistle blew out. Niall Claffey deservedely got man of the match at full back, Dylan Hayden at wing back had a stormer and the Hanniffys hurled their share and more. Mullins the 'keeper had a solid second half after being a bit shaky in the first.
