Healy?  :D :D :D

Jesus Christ, sure OWC live up to their self proclaimed best fans status by booing him now and taunting him about his weight -  a disgrace given what hes done for them in the past, but enough to tell you that he certainly wouldnt make an AI XI!

Very easy for everyone to come on here and say a worse punishment than the one before to look righteous. And if the victim was anyone I knew, no punishment could be too severe.

But does anyone think that paedophiles are normal? On here there was a debate about homosexuality a while ago, and the consensus was that people are born with certain sexual preferences, and these cant be changed, no matter what Iris says. So presumably paedophiles are also born this way. And this being the case, should they all be crucified? Or shock horror, should treatment be sought for them - before they commit crimes like this?

Just a thought...

I would think theres very little chance of that happening - usual sensationalism for a 'story'. The sheep are bound to be well used to being handled, and in the course of their pregnancy will have to be rounded up for more invasive procedures than that which took place here.

As for the claim, if the boys lucky the brits will send out a helicopter to investigate the local rising - he'll be able to claim for the whole flock then  :D

Ziggy, and wabwaw, I honestly dont think there would be anyone up in arms on here if the shoe was on the other foot. No doubt there would be a few murmurings, but the dyeing of sheep deliberately introduces a comedy value which completely undermines any sinister connotations. I think I'd have a grudging respect tbh.

It never would have happened the other way round though, cos everyone knows prods have neither imagination nor a sense of humor  :P

Brilliant. He could take them to the mart rightly too, only he'd be afraid of the reaction of his brethren no doubt!

Can I be as bold as to ask for some running advice from some of the board's learned road runners?

I'm planning on running a 10k on Sunday next and have been training for it for about a month. My starting point would have been my fitness levels at the end of an injury ravaged season so I started off doing 3km in 15mins and building myself up gradually twice a week and then twice a week I would run 15mins at a higher pace (13.1km/hr up to 13.5 etc).

My target for the 10k is to do it in 50 minutes. I don't know if I want to do it if I can't break 50 minutes. Anyway I thought I was well on course until I hit the road for the first time in this training spell last Friday (stupid I know). I did a 5km run and did it in 23mins 20secs. Not a bad time but I really struggled at the end. The slopes in the run and the cold air was a big change from the treadmill. So too was having to control your speed yourself!

Anyway I tried an 8km run the following day but cramped up and had to turn back after 2km. So I was unsure of whether I'd be able to do the 10km. I did 10km in 50mins tonight on the treadmill but did find it very tough (the furthest I'd run on the treadmill was 40mins and 8kms the Tues before) and was thinking that if I was on the road I would stop!

So my question - can I realistically hope to do 10km in 50 mins on Sunday? Is it a mental thing with me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can do 10k on the threadmill, then 10k on the road would be no bother. The threadmill is the most boring of boring things... ever.

try running along that f**king westlink...

I wont pretend to know much about running, but i've did 2 10ks in the last while, one in just over 42 m, and that bastard of a westlink run in 43 and 1/2.

I didnt do that much specific training for them, was playing football, but did a few 5m road runs. I also did a few runs on the treadmill, and I found that I was generally a good bit slower on the treadmill - I think because whereas on the road you can pace yourself better, you're gonna hold yourself back a bit on the treadmill because you want to stay at the same pace for the duration, and dont want to have to stop.

The thinking for my training was just to do the distance, or close to it from the start, and then worry about bringing the time down.

I wouldnt worry too much about the treadmill run. I reckon that you should be well able to do the actual 10k in under 50 min, especially with the adrenalin of the day, and also running beside people. Just dont go off too fast!

the only ones that get to this level of bad are generally ones involving my own co - any others i'll leave/switch off.

Unfortunately theres been plenty this last while, almost all as a matter of fact.

As mentioned, kildare v fermanagh, unbelievably atrocious,
fermanagh cavan also brutal.
Then kerry cork AI final in 07 (i think it was) - first time getting tickets and heading to an AI final, what a letdown!

btw cornafean, that tagline below your posts is brilliant!!!!

General discussion / Re: Irish News vs Newsletter

Newsletter known for its farming supplement, so it bes lying round the house. As a paper I think it doesnt compare to the IN, it does seem to be very slanted (i know both have their target audiences, but NL always seems to be much more biased to me), and it stopped doing gaa for a long time, its only recently enough started it again - which showed me that it doesnt even make a pretence at trying to attract nationalist readers.

The weekend TV used to be the only thing worth looking at, and even then the irish channels were always tucked away in the corner, even though most of the readership of the sat edition (with the farming life) would get rte...

I also flick through it to see if theres ever any positive articles about people with catholic sounding names, or if the photo on the front of the farming life perchance features a fenian, but not so far...

Would have to agree the IN has become somewhat tabloidised though - I'm not a fan of the 'jokey' magazine style articles tbh: who cares what marie louise mccrory thinks is hot or not??

Before 1690 and all that, was the org. name of the county not county coleraine? Inform me better educated people than me. Personally, Derry City, County Londonderry is what i say. Cant say im too bothered.

Apposite question dillinger, the answer is Tír Eoghain!  :D

Sorry you have to en lighten me further Fear. Maybe i seen the co, coleraine bit on an ulster=scots site or something.  :D

You saw it on here a while back.

On a bit of a tangent, but practically everyone I've ever met who is from Derry city was certifiably insane. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Precisely the reason I am going to be cremated.

Here in Oz there's an insurance company called 'Real Insurance'.  During day-time TV it is on flogging shite to unsuspecting retirees and one of the most sickening recent campaigns was that for funeral cover insurance.  It starts off nice and casually with the auld bloke reminiscing about his youth, parenthood, grandparenthood and as the advert progresses the intensity of his voice increases almost to the point where he is panicking that (and I paraphrase) he doesn't want to be a burden on his family after he dies.  For fcuk sake, most parents have sacrificied so much for their children; yet the insensitive b**tards in advertising are flogging the guilt complex.  How the fcuk can a parent who has given their all in parenthood and grandparenthood even begin to think that way?

That sounds terrible aright. It also why I'm against euthanasia, think it if it was brought in it would only be a matter of time before old people would be volunteering for it because of the guilt factor the likes of this ad implants.
