Anyone watching this now on RTE?

First of a 2 part show about the Irish famine, and the Irish migration to Toronto in 1847.

actually just looked up about it on the RTE site - it's not what I'd be in

I did apply for a part as an extra in it though - couldn't get time off for the filming of the scenes

Seeing these role plays makes you realise how brutal it was. As your man said, imagine leaving your home knowing you will never see it again

I have ancestors who left for Canada at that time.  Found out about them when doing a bit of research into the family tree in the 1980s.  In 1989 in France I met a Quebecois and got chatting to him and he told me about the significant numbers of people with my surname and of Irish descent living in that area.  I wrote off to some local papers and got great replies leading to contacts with distant cousins.

Damn, I'd love to have seen that show.

Damn, I thought this was going to be a confidence-boosting poll for us Canucks!

Strabane is paradise compared to Craigavon and Lurgan!

given a choice between Death and Canada, it isn't too hard!!
I was at that famine memorial in Toronto during the summer, it is a hard place to find, but well worth the visit.

If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Gabriel_Hurl

yeah - it's a bit hard to find - and I'm not fond of the big derelict building beside it - I've gone down to it a few times - mostly by myself.

it's a very solemn place in the overcast weather.

Gabriel_Hurl

the show aired on TV last night

jesus - it makes you think
