Interesting. Article in the times on the plight of the club players.  Inter county seems to rule the roost which is completely unfair to the 95% that don't get to play at the county level.

I'm sure there are many of us with similar stories that we might want to share.
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not too sure.

Couple of interesting points jeez but he is some boring writer

Regardless of the writing his point is correct. Club players have 5 or 6 weeks without games at various stages throughout the year and then our club championships are run off in Sept and Oct like some ramshackle pre season tournament. A shambles, and no one cares

Another example of the Grab All Association is pushing the winners of yesterday's Donegal IFC replay to play the Ulster Club today. Disgraceful how they treat club players year in year out.

Tyrone senior club's haven't had a league game now in 8 weeks. County final.off today so that will be another weeks delay.
There are still two rounds of league games and the whole reserve championship to play.
And this is in a year where Tyrone only got to the qtr finals.
A complete shambles.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

8 weeks is a disgrace at this time of the year. I know the championship had had a few replays u and postponements but to keep club players hanging on that long is out of order.

The fault lies with the Donegal county board.
Or is that what you mean when you say 'Grab All Association'?
If you were any use you'd be playing.

The problem in a lot of cases is replays.

Get rid of them. Decide everything on the day and you will alleviate a lot of the problems. The intercounty championship is far too long, it starts at the beginning of May and this year ended at the start of October - that's 5 month this year. It should be more than manageable to have the football Championship ran off in 12 weeks.

The Championship structure is all wrong in any case and this new "Champions League" structure will destroy any sort of competitiveness beyond questions.

It's feasible to run off the Championship in 12 weeks.

Week 1: Connacht prelim
Week 2: Ulster and Leinster prelims
Week 3: Connacht and Munster QFs
Week 4: Ulster and Leinster QFs
Week 5: Connacht and Munsters SFs - round 1 qualifiers
Week 6: Ulster and Leinster SFs
Week 7: Connacht and Munster finals - round 2 qualifiers
Week 8: Ulster and Leinster finals - round 3 qualifiers
Week 9: Round 4 qualifiers
Week 10: QFs - home provincial draw for province winners
Week 11: Semi-finals
Week 12: Final

The only problem in that situation would be some would complain about the short turnaround for defeated teams who have been knocked out in their province, in this case Leinster and Ulster - well with all due respect - f**k that - they lost and they should be grateful they have a second chance rather than licking their wounds. That could be ran off May- July

As for the club players, run the leagues without players called up on a county panel. Limit county panels to 35 players who have to be registered before Championship action begins and who are prohibited from playing club during May-July or whenever county exits Championship. Make August a rest month with all club championships to be started at beginning of Sept and concluded mid Oct. A championship with 32 teams in should be able to run off in 5 rounds if it is straight knockout.

but the ulster council could have helped the winners by allowing the game to be played next weekend, instead they denied the request.

You're neglecting the fact that they were playing Bredagh who will probably be playing in the Ulster Intermediate Hurling next week when the appeals farce is sorted out. Hardly Ulster Council's fault on this occasion.

Neglecting to reference a fixture that hasn't been fixed?

Donegal county board should be ashamed of themselves making Burt play 24hrs later. Utter incompetence on behalf of the board playing their championships so late.

There was a club game in Division 1A of the Mayo league cancelled at 4 hours notice last saturday.
One of the lads posted this on facebook.

"Cancelled a wedding last night to go to the game. Joke"
"Turned down a weekends work in Galway"
"Halfway up from Limerick"
"Sold two tickets for the Connacht game this evening"
Just some of the messages (censored) flying in on Kiltane Gaa Whatsapp page having heard the news that today's Senior League Division 1A game versus Chalrestown was cancelled with only 4 hours notice.
Another one bites the dust. County Board have outdone themselves with this one. Anyone who had plans to travel to Charlestown thIs evening for our Senior League Division 1A match fixed for 5 p.m this evening, well dont as we have just discovered it has been postponed. On Monday last, we were surprised to learn that our final league match with Charleston was due to go ahead today at 5 p.m. We believed all the final league matches usually go ahead at the same time with other matches in the league, to avoid foul-play or handing other teams an advantage, we prepared ourselves for battle in Charlestown. As we are in a precautions position in the league we needed a result to guarantee our Division 1A survival. We were informed at training on Tuesday that Charlestown had approached the County Board and had requested the match off. That was fair enough but Wednesday, Thursday, Friday had passed and no information was forthcoming. To leave it until 4 hours before the game to make a decision or transfer the news to our club is absolute madness. No reason was given as to why the game was cancelled either. Again this is an absolute total lack of respect for club players, managers, officials, and supporters. After a good result in the championship last week, people were talking about and looking forward to this game all week. Now we are left in limbo and do not know when this game will go ahead. On a personal level I'm infuriated and as I booked the weekend off work for the game, I'm heading for the the high stool!!

Cavan Championship final replay cancelled with an hour and a half notice. It happens. Unfair on supporters too.
