Quote from: Saffrongael on February 09, 2025, 03:43:57 PMAnd we won't mention the pensions, that nobody in the private sector could afford to pay into
I was speaking to a former plumber who now works for a local council at facilities management and they contribute 19% of his annual salary to a pension pot.

That's unreal.

But is he financially better off overall?

These are made up numbers to explain what I mean.

what does he earn working for the council, 50k?  If it was that number then 19% of it is 9.5k into his pension pot.
If he instead worked as a plumber as his own boss I would imagine he would earn at least the 9.5k that is going into his pension over and above his council salary.

I get that the level of stress and workload are probably different, but from a financial PoV I wouldn't think there would be too many tradesmen that would pack it in and go work for the council.
As part of an overall work / life balance I could see why someone would do it, but pension couldn't be the main driver.

Pension probably isn't the main driver and he ain't the fittest so no more kneeling on cold floors, hoking in and around tight spaces (plumbing that is) and the family are all up, but I was just pointing out there's no way he'd get that in the private sector unless he'd be on a bonus scheme where you could top up the pension at the end of the year and avoid the tax on the bonus!

I know everyone talks about lack of quality in the final third, but Jesus United lack quality in all the thirds...

Slot did right in getting Konate off the park, the ref showing great levels of generosity in not yellow carding him for the free on the edge of the box...

Quote from: johnnycool on February 15, 2025, 09:05:41 AMThree Israeli "hostages" released this morning...

One is Russian, one is Argentinian and the other is American..

None are Semites..

What are the odds of them being IDF members?

3 healthy looking chaps from what I've seen on BBC News.

Listening to some p***k on BBC news now going on about how poorly the previous three were but not a word about how awful the Palestinians released by Israel looked.

I like Monbiot and he's right on Ukraine and but if you transpose Ukraine with Palestine, would he get the same reaction?

Do you have any evidence that Netanyahu has compromising blackmail material on a single leader of importance in the west?

Israel and Mossad were funding Epstein to the balls and he in turn was compromising the great and the good of US politics, business and Media to do their bidding.

That includes both sides of the house and one of the reasons Epstein was never going to be allowed to talk.

Look at the flight lists for the Lolita express FFS.

The biggest surprise is how he ever saw the inside of a prison cell.

Maxwells Da, the "dead" Robert was a know Mossad agent, so the apple didn't fall far from the tree there!

Trump would get on the crack of a plate as they say so it would have been foolish of Putin not to take advantage of that weakness at the time.
I know Trump is meant to have a golden toilet but evidently he likes golden showers as well!

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on February 13, 2025, 01:41:44 PMThey have been unlucky with some draws to be fair and have been booted out by NZ several times and France who we were useless against throughout the eighties and nineties but what I can't understand is that they beat Argentina for fun over and over again but when we meet them in a world cup we seem to sh1t our pants. Argentina ffs

The answer is above, I do believe. Ireland have arrived in each of the last 3-4 RWCs with an ageing, battered core who then have to play 5 games in 4 weeks, as management have never taken the time to build up minutes and experience among the second string.

The effort Ireland put into the SA and Scotland matches last time around was uncalled for. One of the other was needed, not both.

All the same they were on the bad side of the draw with SA, NZ and or France in the groups of quarter final.

England had more or less a stroll on the other side of the draw

Did he tell them to run over and scream at the WBA fans that day?

In his head it's the same thing, I'd just leave it tbh 😂😂
God knows what's going on in his head. Its not normal anyways.

Would someone think of the poor fans that were screamed at? Hopefully they got up today for work.. oh wait

Now now there MR!
Are you stereotyping?

Everton well worth the point in the end even though it looked to be drifting away.

Beto finally getting a bit of service and support and took his chance well as being a total nuisance throughout.

Did he push Konate, yes but sure Konate probably pushed him plenty of times as well.

These things even themselves out over the season  ;).

Still in a relegation battle though

Antrim / Re: Antrim Hurling
February 12, 2025, 01:11:13 PM
WRT the leagues, we were asked whether we wanted to go back into Div1 by Antrim CCC (I think) and we agreed to go back into Div 1 but it wasn't a clearcut decision within the club due to the fact we've now eight players involved with Down seniors and another seven with the U20's albeit there's two of our players overlap.

So if we get a bad weekend with the seniors playing and the U20's playing we're decimated for a league game that same weekend which happened twice last year where the Dall put 50 points on us up there and Loughgiel had almost 30 on us with both our sub keepers playing in the FF Line as well as a lad in his late 30's who helps me coach underage who just wanted to play a bit of seconds hurling in the half forward line.
We're probably looking at something similar this year and in all fairness some of the Antrim teams have big contingents in both their seniors and U20's as well which might be a bit of a leveller...

We'd hope to have everyone back for when the league splits and take it from there, but I'd say the split season is one of the reasons the club leagues have become more or less meaningless, especially the Div 1 league.
