General discussion / Re: The DUP thread

The trial of former Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife Lady Eleanor Donaldson on sex abuse charges is to be delayed.
It was due to begin on 24 March but Newry Crown Court has been told Mrs Donaldson, 58, is "unfit to stand trial" at present.
No details of her illness were given in court.
Sir Jeffrey denies 18 offences, including one count of rape and others of indecent assault and gross indecency while his wife denies five charges of aiding and abetting his alleged offending.
The offences allegedly occurred between 1985 and 2008.

Granting an adjournment application by Mrs Donaldson's lawyer, Judge Paul Ramsey said he will review the situation on 16 May.

The court heard medical evidence has been submitted by Mrs Donaldson's doctor.
A prosecution lawyer said the delay will upset the two alleged victims in the case.
Describing them as "vulnerable complainants", she said they will be "emotionally affected" by the development.
The lawyer added the prosecution accepts the issue with Mrs Donaldson's health at present.

As a practical matter I don't think that blocking the CR would do any good. The Republicans actually want as much of the government as possible to shut down so a shutdown this week would play in to their hands.

If the bookies have set the odds correctly then they should make a profit no matter which horse wins.

Did any of these crypto bros pump cash into Trump's campaign or other schemes?

So Belfast will become a legitimate target to the Russians?.

Russia is engaging in an illegal war so there are zero 'legitimate targets' either here or in Ukraine.

Maybe they'll leave Ukraine and the money can be spent on the NHS.
I won't believe they are going to spend the money on the NHS unless I see a slogan on the side of a bus.

Is that not what councillors are for?
The fact that you need an MLA or councilor to get something sorted for you is a sign of a dysfunctional political system. If there is something that some public service is supposed to provided for me then I should be able to get it resolved with them, without having to get a politician involved.

First saw him on game Game for a Laugh  and wasn't very impressed. I was unaware of his prior journalism career until I saw him on a Channel 4 late night discussion program called After Dark where he was brilliant in an episode focusing on the early years of the Troubles.

It's all very close down there at the bottom of the table.
Mostly doesn't matter. United won't get relegated or qualify for Europe

Quote from: J70 on February 13, 2025, 05:32:51 PMI'll keep an open mind on the food safety stuff, although I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that the GOP will actually let him do anything positive on that.
They are a complete bunch of hypocrites, when Michele Obama was first lady she started a vegetable garden in the white house and invited school kids to get involved to encourage healthier, less processed diets. She also tried encouraging school districts to use healthier food for school dinners.

This all got nothing but abuse and insults from Republicans.

Now they are pretending that they give a damn unhealthy food. The reason for all the chemicals in American food is that more profitable for large agribusiness corporations to do that and Republicans won't do anything to change that.

History. It has been going on for over 100 years.
