GAA Discussion / GAA Hopes for 09 (your top 7)
March 04, 2009, 09:51:18 PM
(excluding own club or county)

1) That the people of Cork have a titter of wit and stop their own civil war splitting generations, that the players accept the structures of the GAA and respect them and how these are essentially the vehicle for effecting change.
2) That the GPA become irrelevant as the GAA re asserts the type of people and values that one must espouse / sign up to to play intercounty.
3) That the GAA in Ulster can be accepted by the BBC and UTV as due parity of esteem.
4) That the County Players grant is donated en bloc to some of the more important health budget issues such as the vaccinations.
5) That the GAA becomes more involved in the implementation of good community schemes, and its very existence can be a force for even more good things than it currently is.
6) That the GAA ignores the cries of australia and promotes their own game internationaly
7) That the open draw is tested

I must admit Galway look to be a coming force this year, or how bad were the Dubs?  Where exactly are Tyrone at this stage having finished strongly yesterday or did Kerry ease off?  Always a fine game of football, it looks like a battle between Connaght and Ulsters best hope of AI success this year.

General discussion / The Southern "Irish"
January 30, 2009, 05:42:27 PM
Made a phone call earlier to a supplier from Dublin.  The Dublin lass on the far end of the phone asked my name and I gave it - her reply thats a very Irish name for somebody from Northern Ireland.  I asked her did she study her history in school, but I still dont think she caught on - nor would for the next 10 years.  I found the episode amusing but in a way sad.  My question is: is the day coming when we will have more in common with the English than the Irish? (and Im only talking about the Southerners!!!!!!).

GAA Discussion / Dara O Se
August 02, 2008, 11:08:30 AM
One of the modern day greats Dara O Se plays his 70th championship game for the kingdom on Sunday.  How many appearances is that in comparison to say Spillane or the kerry golden year teams.  What records are out there for championship appearances and who are the top 3 players with the most appearances in each county?

GAA Discussion / Mugsy continued
July 01, 2008, 04:33:24 PM
Im 40 odd years old and a fine judge of character, and Mugsy is a fine character, great craic and fun,  hes also a very good person, enjoys life on the edge and with a little bit of white dublin leather in his hands is a sporting genius.  With Canavan retired I guess some Tyrone player has to take the Armagh wrath or judgement on an ongoing basis.  Put it like this if we compare this one to Oisisn.  Oisisn wrote his book, in it he admitted he lived the life the way he lived his life , but it was his choice to make it an issue, he wanted his book to sell at the expense of some very private problems and issues - his desicions, no proiblem.    Canavan wrote a book - a picture book - kept it football, his decision.   Mugsy has not wrote a book, hasnt chosen to write a book and lives a private life.. If he wrote a book how many pages should he devote to the scraper gate scandal - my guess despite the national and british press devoting pages and pages to it - 3 lines would be sufficient.   Why because its not important.  People will always remember Mugsy as the man who made sure Francie Bellew didnt step out of line or get near an injured Canavan in 2003, people will remember the genius that was him in 2005, the goal, the boots, the hair, the hill the flamboyance, the respect for others and himself as every true sporting great has.  Yes we know hes maybe a few problems but havent we all, hes flamboyant and hes two all Ireland medals.  Not bad for a cub.
2 weeks ago maybe he was only sending out a message to the average   joes that forever dellight in knocking him - Mugsy dosent need to scrape the floor these guys do it for him.
I think people like to knock and its far too easy when you dont know the guy.  But Owen is one of the guys its kinda not right to knock him because you wouldnt if you knew him.

GAA Discussion / And its 3-in-a-row; 3-in-a-row:
January 30, 2008, 02:08:58 PM
I think that ite time time to laud this Kerry team as what they are - terrific team.  In this, the most competitive era when even the once great Dubs cant get within a hounds gowl of a final; in an era when Armagh and Tyrone have threatened to dominate, this fabulous Kerry team has positioned itself as a 3 in a row team.  Lets make no bones about it: Who can stop them?  Forget about previous eras when they only had to beat one team to win an ai this team has had to beat many.  The thought must be consuming Kerry football at the moment that they're good enough for a 3 in a row; it looks like its their destiny this year; get those t shirts printed and the songs out.  This 3 in a row Kerry team is something special.  As good as won if you ask me and its the 2nd last day of January.  Discuss....
