General discussion / FAO Barstoolers
November 12, 2010, 01:00:23 PM
For the attention of the all the barstoolers who support English teams on here. The FAI cup final is down for the Aviva stadium. Shamrock Rovers V Sligo rovers. Over 25,000 have been sold so far and the tickets are only €10 for adults and €5 for kids. So why not support an Irish team for a change and head along. You wont get better value then that for a chance to see a match in the Aviva.

General discussion / The failure of the Dublin Republic
November 11, 2010, 01:04:42 AM
Its quite clear where why we are where we are at the moment. Dublin policy has us at the breaking point. The economic treason we see has all been led by Dublin based enterpise. The western region in this so called republic has been abandoned for many years, its time to rise and and declare a new Republic of Connacht. I propose to envite Donegal, Limerick, Clare, Kerry and Cork into this new republic along with the rest of the connacht counties. We have potential massive Oil, Gas and coal reserves off the west coast and as well as the massive potentail of wave energy. We have strong links throughout the world due to emmigration that maily stemed from the western region.

http://www.eveningecho.ie/news/ireland/minister-says-budget-will-be-defeated-480607.html

"Senior Government Ministers were told privately yesterday to expect a vote defeat on the Budget.

One Minister, who asked not be named, said there would be a General Election a very short time after Christmas.

The Minister's view was that dissident Fianna Fáil TDs and Independents interested in being re-elected would vote against the Budget.

The Government disclosure yesterday of even further billions being sought in the early December Budget has been the 'final straw' for some dissident TDs and Independents.

The Minister also predicted that Brian Cowen would be gone by late February, with Brian Lenihan the public and bookies' favourite to get the job.

Independents like Jackie Healy Rae, whose son will be a candidate in the next election, simply cannot afford to back a budget that hits the less well off.

Michael Lowry is another who is predicted to vote 'No'."

Jackie Healy Rae's wish list for him to support the Government in the Budget at a time when they are asking for 5000 VR in the HSE and up to a massive 1 billion euro from the HSE budget. What a gombeen.

Aer Lingus to complain radio host's sex act to gardaí
By Conor Keane and Eoin English
Wednesday, November 03, 2010
AER LINGUS is in the process of making a formal complaint to gardaí following an incident in which high-profile radio presenter Neil Prendeville exposed himself in public view on a flight between London and Cork.

Mr Prendeville, 49, who presents Cork's 96FM flagship daily morning show, was a passenger on Aer Lingus flight EI725 scheduled to leave at 10.15pm from London Heathrow to Cork on October 19 last.

As the jet taxied for take-off Mr Prendeville was seen to expose himself and masturbate as he sat in his seat. Mr Prendeville was seated in the front row of the aircraft facing two air hostesses. He was flanked by a female passenger to his right in a window seat and a male passenger to his left in an aisle seat.

When the aircraft was in the air an air hostess intervened and spoke with Mr Prendeville and the two passengers. Reports on the incident have been compiled by the crew of the Aer Lingus flight. These reports are in the possession of the airline's head of security Mark Dunphy and form the basis of the airline's investigation.

Yesterday, Mr Dunphy contacted the female passenger and told her that Aer Lingus has concluded its investigation. He said the airline would be making a formal complaint to gardaí.

Since the incident Mr Prendeville left a voice message on the telephone of the young woman who was sitting beside him, in which he said: "I just wanted to apologise to you for any offence that I might have caused you." He said he had no recollection of the incident and that when he was told about it he was "shocked and horrified". "I have no recollection whatsoever. I'm in shock, you know, I really am. I took some Nurofen Plus alright, I know that, for my neck. And as you know, with me anyway there was pints and wine and stuff and Jesus I don't know where I'd begin to make it up to you," he said on the voicemail.

Prior to the incident Mr Prendeville had spent the day in London as a guest of the Cork Convention Bureau. Cork Lord Mayor Michael O'Connell, Cork county mayor Jim Daly and Cork Convention Bureau (CCB) chairman Seamus Heaney led the delegation.

Mr Prendeville was one of a number of guests of the CCB who were entertained, prior to the flight, at celebrity chef Richard Corrigan's Bentley's Restaurant.

Mr Prendeville's show is the most listened-to talk show on local radio in Ireland with almost 100,000 listeners each day.

Mr Prendeville declined several attempts to comment when contacted by an Irish Examiner reporter last night.

Mayo / Mayo-2011
October 13, 2010, 11:01:18 PM
i see Mayo will launch the campaign 2011. Is the issue with the fllodlights fixed? seeing as its down as a Saturday night game?

Mayo-Down clash to launch 2011 NFL
12 October 2010

Mayo and Down will have the honour of launching next year's National Football League.

The game was originally fixed for Sunday, February 6, but has now been brought forward to the Saturday night in Castlebar and is expected to be screened live on Setanta. Armagh and Dublin also clash on the opening night at the Gaelic Grounds and this game is also certain to feature in Setanta's coverage.

Most of the original dates and fixtures, which were released earlier this month, remain in place. However, some could yet be moved to accommodate live TV coverage. Down and Galway were fixed for Saturday, February 20, but that game could yet take place in Newry on Saturday, February 19.

Similarly, Down's All-Ireland final rematch with Cork in Cork on Sunday, March 13 could now be played on the Saturday evening.

Islandeady to end famine

Preview
Mike Finnerty

IT will be just like old times for the followers of Islandeady and Parke next Sunday as they make the short journey to McHale Park, Castlebar in search of silverware and, perhaps more importantly, the local bragging rights in their West Mayo constituencies.
It is a big day for both clubs; Islandeady, the slight favourites, bidding to win the McDonnell Cup for the first time since 1985, and Parke, without a county junior championship since the halcyon days of 1997. For one of these proud, rural clubs, the famine is almost over.
On the injury front, Islandeady will definitely be without Brian McCormack who sustained a 'bad' elbow injury against Castlebar in the quarter-final while Paul Ruane (groin and knee) is unable to start and is 'touch and go' to come off the bench.
Parke are planning without Richard O'Boyle but everybody else is fit and raring to go.
Islandeady manager Tommy Gibbons (whose selectors are his father, Tommy Francis, Gerry Feeney and Brendan Gibbons) knows his team have been tipped for outright honours since before a ball was kicked. However, he is under no illusions about the task ahead.
"The fact that we've been playing in Division 1B of the league means that we were in the spotlight a lot more than some of the other teams," he told The Mayo News. "We're also playing good quality sides week in, week out, and it's been a good division for our U-21s and minors to be playing in. It's helped them immensely.
"Plus, the fact that a lot of our more experienced players, like the Feeneys, Peter Collins, and Cormac Gordon were playing for West Mayo in the senior championship brought them on a lot as well. Expectations are higher as a result of all of that. That's something we've had to deal with.
"But Parke are a very settled, very experienced, and physically strong team. They'll present a huge challenge for us and I think there'll only be a kick of the ball in it."
Parke manager, Frank McHale, is quick to point to the arrival of Niall Dunne, Dwayne Flynn and Fintan McHale last year as being a big boost to his team's goals and objectives.
And despite knocking them out in last year's quarter-finals, he has plenty of time for his opponents too. "Islandeady are always a hard team to beat. They're tough, hard and clean, a fine young junior team.
"They're favourites," he continued. "They had eleven lads playing with West Mayo in the senior championship and they're operating at a higher level in the league than us. It's theirs to lose."
Understandably, Tommy Gibbons doesn't see it quite like that. He has had to build a team, twice, since taking on the job at the start of last season. Plus, Islandeady almost came a cropper against Castlebar B last month.
"We had to rebuild the team and, thankfully, there were a lot of new players coming through. Then we got hit hard with emigration and lost seven or eight players, the likes of Stephen Staunton, Brian Heraty, Joe Corcoran and David O'Brien.
"That meant we had to bring through U-21s and minors and, essentially, construct a completely new team again, bar the few regulars.
"The quarter-final against Castlebar Mitchels B was a very, very difficult game for us. We have an extremely poor record against their B teams in the last 20 years and winning that match got a monkey off our back."
Next Sunday, Ollie Feeney and friends should have just enough to finish the job.

How gaainfo rank them
GAAinfo has created the first ever ranking system for inter-county hurling and football teams. It draws on over 4,500 results over the last 17 years - including the complete results of the All-Ireland Football and Hurling  Championships from 1991 until the present. The system has been retrospectively calculated from to 1991 to 2007 - allowing us to compare the current champions with the best teams from the past.

The system is based on the Elo ranking system which is used by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to rank the best chess players. The system has been adapted to rank national teams in soccer and teams in Ice Hockey, American Football and Basketball. The official FIFA rankings for Women's soccer uses the Elo system. More information about the Elo ranking system can be found on Wikipedia.

Frequently Asked Questions:

    * Are All-Ireland Championship more important than other matches? Of course. We use a weighting system that gives more importance to All-Ireland matches, then National League matches and then to other competitions like the Walsh Cup and the McKenna Cup.
    * Why is team X ranked below team Y despite beating them? The system uses a points rating system to rank teams. It means that regular good results will lead to improved ranking but not freak results. So Donegal Footballers' strong run in the 2007 NFL has more effect than Sligo's two wins to capture the 2007 Connacht SFC.

According to Hoganstand. The Clare manager Michael McDermott plans to utilise the GAA parentage rule to enlist from the Dublin Club scene. The Dublin players in Question are Shane McGrath, Pat Burke, Aidan Downes, Brian Downes and David O'Connor.

I know nothing about the Clare club scene bar the champions Kilmurry-Ibrickane, but surely its a big two fingers to them if there heading to Dublin for Players. The manager is a Cavan man also and i cant see the local Clare clubs being too happy. We'll see if he lasts the year.
