The GAA announced this evening that club action will commence nationally on July 31st, with Intercounty games due to begin on October 17th. GAA Pitch's will open on June 28th but with no contact training permitted. Full training will be allowed from July 20th.
Club window to last 11 weeks before Inter-County start on Saturday October 17th.

Will be interesting to see how much the county players are with the club  ::)

skeog

All the time no county training till Sept.

Wonder how they'll work the league. To get 15 league games in plus 4 championship games...youd need to basically play 2 games a week to get it played in 31 July - 11th October window.

Think the league bes played in a different format. Perhaps taking the form of the Jim Devlin league cups that used to be played.

Impossible to play a 15 game league. A regional league competition with less games would work better.

11 weeks!
We would need a minimum of 4 weeks for championship (e.t. and replays mid-week) so realistically 6 weeks of league games. 4 groups of 4, home and away, or 2 groups of 8, play each other once, 2 games a week then semifinal and final.

I heard a whisper the Championships will be on the day knockout.

If u play 4 groups of 4 for the league obviously there will be no promotion or relegation

A lot of Players - especially in Junior and Intermediate - will be asking what's the point in going through essentially a full, intensive pre-season just to play one game. And then even if you do win the Championship, you won't be promoted the following season.

Don't know, usually by championship time the lesser teams are deflated after so many beatings. Could be the year for a few shocks

Play each division in 4 groups of 4. 3 games each. Top 4 into semis, bottom 4 into relegation semis. 4 to 5 weeks to sort out ur league finalists and relegation.

Teams well warmed up for knock out champo played over 6 weeks or so.

Finish season with 3 league finals.

Might be the best pre season in a long time, short, sharp and plenty of games.

I'd agree with a format like this. Begin on the 1st and play each weekend in August. Would allow your championship to start on the weekend of the 4th September and finish with the final on the 3rd 4th October and still have a week rest prior to the final. League finals on the 10th October weekend.

Is youth and reserve football going to be factored into the equation or just senior?

I think in the pre-champ competition, anything that ends in a draw should finish with a penalty shootout, you'd have to expect all Champ barring maybe the final is play to a conclusion on the day so potential for a few penalty comps, and better to at least give the chance for them in the pre-champ comp

So some teams only get 4 games if they finish mid table in their group and lose 1st round of championship?
There's 11 club weeks. I think a minimum of 8 games (if not 10) should be played in order to keep players motivated. Split league in 2, play everyone once =7 games. Then  play championship with a backdoor. = 2 games. 9 games total.

Also could be a few issues if leagues are split and CCC wants to go ahead with next years league restructure.
