I'd listen to Neil Young but not enough to qualify a top 3. I'd really want to be able to name at least 10 songs by an artist, before qualifying a top 3.

I think Clapton and Sting would fall into the same boat for most people. Not many people would get past the greatest hits side one album for either, I'd guess.

Just listened to Jarlath Burns on BBC. I like Jarlath and hope he has a great reign but some thoughts (hope he reads the GAA Board lol)

He was very coy about payments being made to managers. His son is on the Armagh panel.They are one of the most "professional" set ups around. McGeeney, Donaghy, Gilligan etc are on tens of thousands of pounds. The Armagh players virtually never play for their clubs and the club leagues in the county are terrible.

This is replicated up and down the country but surely Jarlath must know what's happening on his doorstep.

Because these people are getting paid so well they are placing so many demands on players to justify their existence. This is the problem in the GAA!!!!!


 

Just started listening. Surely he doesn't really believe that the Orange Order is in any way comparable to the GAA?

Also loved how he managed to say that the tournaments etc named after IRA men aren't actually GAA organised. A clued in interviewer would have asked him who Sam Maguire was! Or maybe he was ok because he was in the old IRA.

AOH is the same as the OO.

I hope Burns didn't compare the GAA with the OO.

trans women should not compete in women's sports is not a denial of their rights. The argument against it is backed by numerous credible sports scientists, e.g. Ross Tucker. Introducing "trans women are big and yes that might hurt someone playing rugby, but the numbers are so small it's irrelevant therefore it doesn't matter" into the discussion is a red herring. The issue is the principle and integrity of women's sport as a protected category.

Again, I'm not denying these aren't issues, but they should be worked through, the anti trans obsessives like to find these issues and make them out to something much bigger, and plenty of incidents where whole narratives and stories have been completely invented. I've seen them targeting casual park runs over trans women being recorded as women and another headline about a trans woman who finished thousands of places behind others in a marathon. I can't say I see any discussion of women's sports on here in general. Again, it's quite noteworthy how people take an issue with this issue in women's sports, but never seem to comment or show an interest in it otherwise.

The IRFU taking a very public decision to ban two trans players from playing amateur rugby is not productive imo. It wouldn't be difficult to have a set of clear guidelines. What they did sent a terrible message.

I do find it odd that those who are so against trans rights have no personal experiences or skin in the game so as to speak.

Not even Graham Lenihan or J.K. Rowling are against 'trans rights' per se.

Both of them are obessives. They have no personal connection to the issue, nor are they experts in the field. Lenihan, especially, he has ruined his career and marriage over this issue. Look at the types of people who are involved in the anti-trans movement Ireland and worldwide, which include literal nazis.

It strikes me as quite similar to the right wingers who are pro-life, who don't care about the social conditions a child is born into, or the anti-Immigration crowd who are supposedly concerned about safety and housing, but will riot and light accommodation on fire and some with convictions for violence against women. People are concerned about people 'becoming' trans, but as soon as they do, they'll completely dehumanise them.

He's in there to do a job, and the job isn't to f**k off Unionists, the BBC have their radio friendly soundbites, PUL types can react how they like, tomorrow it'll be ancient history as the business of managing the biggest sporting organisation in the country continues, and the business of winning unification proceeds elsewhere

Appeasing Unionists would be about number 10000 on my priority list for a GAA president to be doing tbh.

Without getting into the penalties argument. Still think if Derry were to beat us in normal/extra time it signifies a step back. If Derry have improved so much then why havent we? And if Donegal were to leapfrog us then thats a poor reflection for a team in really the first year of its rebuild.

Donegal were in the final 2 years ago and Derry just beat them.
They had a poor year last year with Murphy leaving and new management - but the ship has steadied and management is at a high level. I feel Donegal are getting back to where they were 2 years ago - which was already ahead of Armagh. That's why I'd be concerned about playing them this weekend.
Armagh could beat Derry/Donegal/Down, but I would be more confident from a Derry pov of playing Armagh than Donegal.

What about some category work - britpop, classic rock, grunge (moving more and more towards classic rock if the radio stations are anything to go by these days)?

Clapton, Sting and the Police are a couple heavy hitting artists as well
