He is largely responsible for many innocent people from our community lying in their graves tonight.
A despicable human being that the world really could have been doing without. His death today, in his old age, is completely meaningless to me tbh. His evil deeds were already completed. God rest his victims.

+1 as they say.

Mayo to request rescheduling of semi-final replay

James Horan unhappy with Limerick as venue after Croke Park draw with Kerry

The Mayo county board will request a postponement of the All-Ireland football semi-final to allow the game to take place in Croke Park.

Kerry and Mayo drew 1-16 apiece at headquarters today but, as it stands, the replay will not be staged there this Saturday because the ground is hosting the 'Croke Park Classic' American football match between University of Central Florida and Penn State.

Mayo want the replay to be postponed until Saturday, September 6th, the day before the senior hurling final between Kilkenny and Tipperary, to allow it to be staged back in Dublin

Predictably, the GAA issued a statement rejecting Mayo, stating that Croke Park is needed for a possible replay of Dublin/Donegal, a possibility that is 22/1, even a 4.5% chance of Dublin needing it trumps the certainty of Mayo needing it.

What a f**king joke. Mayo v Kerry replay can't be in croker on the off chance that Dublin and Donegal draw!? Pathetic decision

And what would be wrong with a double header of semi-final replays?  I would go.

Surprisingly for an avowed purist like myself and despite the obvious and undoubted skulduggery from both sides, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Two well prepared teams with two intelligent managers, it was intriguing, if not of the highest quality. I felt Donegal won because they got more from their main men and many of their lesser lights stepped up to the plate also.

What would worry me, if I were from Donegal, was how wildly and openly the win was celebrated by the players and management. Two years ago the Ulster title was a mere stepping stone to the All-Ireland (and was seen as such by Donegal); this year it seems to be the main target. Or maybe it is just a reaction to recent defeats to Monaghan.

I'd hardly call lobbing suicide balls into your lone forward well prepared.

Sorry, I meant physical preparation.

And you've caused me to waste tomorrow's post.

If you don't want those two tickets, can I have them please? DM me - I'll drive up and everything, no bother. Just give me a shout.

You seem like a reasonable chap, but unfortunately there are two reasons why I can't offer you the tickets.

Firstly, they are through work. Two come to the school each year and they are only offered to members of staff. There is a bit of a queue or pecking order, so when I didn't take them, they are offered to next in line. They will always be used by someone in the school.

Secondly, and more importantly, I believe that you should never ask someone to do something that you are not prepared to do yourself and hence I could not in all conscience offer them to anyone else.  If I am not prepared to sit through the game, neither should I expect anyone else to. I couldn't forgive myself if something untoward happened you.

I feel your pain Saffron . I did the same as you when Antrim played in the hurling Final only difference was there was no gaa board to put up my comments can't recall exactly what i did that day probably footed some turf or something.

I had no idea what 'footed some turf' meant, so I asked a culchie in work. He says there was little chance you'd be footing turf in September, they should have been well won by then, hi.  On the off chance that you were, I can only hope you were still footing them two weeks later as, IIRC, the beaten football finalists that year weren't overly clever either.

I don't think Linus was ever in the running to replace Boxer.

Story I heard was that a journalist asked him if he was interesting in managing Antrim and he said that yes, he was, but that it was much too early in his career to be even thinking about. The journalist stopped lsitening after the first word.

Aidan O'Rourke at a loose end now and a decent option, but will have to change his name to Aidso.

John Rafferty also in the mix.

This shall be my only comment on this thread.

I attended the 1992 All-Ireland semi-final between these two counties and I can honestly say that it was the biggest waste of time and money in my life - it cost 3 punts to stand on the hill. The "football" played was shocking, but I fear this year's final will be worse.

I was offered two tickets anocht, turned them down. Won't be tuning in to watch her either. Good luck to those who do and to those competing, but life is too short.

No prediction will be offered. No interest in the outcome.

Did they initially offer the job to a different O'Rourke?
